    I modified that M-38A1 fuel pump bolt you showed at the start of video to use on mine,you have to shorten the longer threaded bolt end and grind away enough of the bolt to fit past the pump when aligned with bolt hole,then you can use you fingers or wrench to get it started after you get the bolt snugged up some on the right side of fuel pump,but if you want to use the shorter bolt the 1/4 inch drive works well also!

    GOOD MORNING, FROM THE PHILIPPINES. I AM STILL USING A CJ2A, WILLYS JEEP, WHICH I INHERITED FROM MY FATHER, WHO WAS A USAFFE VETERAN DURING WORLD WAR 2. THE TRANSMISSION IS T-90, WITH A TRANSFER CASE WHICH I SUPPOSSED IS A DANA 18. MY PROBLEM IS: 1) 2ND AND 3RD GEARS CANNOT BE ENGAGED ANYMORE; 2) GEAR OILS ARE LEAKING FROM BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE; 3) PARTS SUPPLIERS OF THIS KIND OF JEEP ARE NO LONGER STOCKING OF SUCH PARTS, RENDERING MY JEEP UNMAINTAINED FOR 2 YEARS NOW. I LOVE THIS JEEP. IT HELPED ME A LOT IN MY FARM FOR MANY YEARS. I WAS VERY RELIABLE. I WANTED VERY MUCH TO RESTORE ITS RELIABILITY BACK TO ITS FORMER CAPACITY. I HAVE MADE A THOROUGH OVERHAUL OF THE ENGINE 8 YEARS AGO, AND IT IS STILL VERY RELIABLE. I NEED ADVISE ON THE FOLLOWING: 1) WHERE CAN I POSSIBLY GET THE COMPONENT PARTS TO REBUILD MY T-90 TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE BACK TO ITS FORMER GLORY. 2) HOW CAN I GET THE PARTS ON LINE? MANY THANKS.

    Sir, recently I assembled a T90 wirlth the help of your videos. However, due to some mistake of mine, the engine stops when I release the clutch on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, although I have not connected the output shaft to wheel. The transfercase shaft are also rotating on engaging transfercase shift lever (the transmission gear in neutral). What may possible be the mistake I have made

    • @rickstivers3965
      @rickstivers3965 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Believe it or not I have experienced a similar problem. In my case, when I installed the shift tower, the first reverse fork did not get into the slot on the gear. It was stuck in reverse all the time. When I would shift into 2nd or 3rd gear it would stall the engine. That is because it was going into two gears at once and this locked the transmission. I don’t understand why your’s would do it in 1st gear. If that isn’t the issue I would look at the shift tower linkage to make sure it’s operating properly. I’ve gotten rid of all of my transmissions and Jeeps so I can’t make another video to assist you further. I hope this helps. If you go to the 5 minute point in this video I think it will explain enough to get you through it with what I told you above. th-cam.com/video/QzH5SWaeegQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7HRLrrCQlo_te_8I

    • @swarnendubanerjee288
      @swarnendubanerjee288 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sir, further today when I turned on the engine without the tower shifter, I find out that the counter shaft is rotating in neutral also, whereas it is rotating freely when the engine is switched of. What possibly may be the cause. Regards

    • @rickstivers3965
      @rickstivers3965 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is normal for the counter shaft to rotate with the engine running if you don’t have the transfer case in gear or if you don’t have the driveshafts hooked up. There isn’t enough friction in the drive train to stop the transmission from turning with the clutch disengaged. There is usually a small amount of rub from a disengaged clutch plate that it will still turn a low friction drive train.

    I know that you used #2 Forma gasket on the bolts. Did you use any sealant on the gasket? Did you place the lever against the cam or above it or below it ? Did you move the cam with the crank bolt ?

    • @rickstivers3965
      @rickstivers3965 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s been years ago since I did that but if I remember correctly the lever is spring loaded in the up position. I pushed the lever down under the cam, seated the pump and installed the bolts. I used a regular liquid gasket sealer on both gasket. I don’t remember what brand. I didn’t need to move the cam to install it. I might have just been lucky.

    Great videos, Rick, I just took my apart and the main shaft has metal basically welded to it where the pilot bearing is in the motor and looks like there was issues near the throwout bearing. Also my case is shot due to bad area where the brass washer rides up against it. It’s pitted and scraped up. My question is, are the T 90 transmissions that you see on eBay for $1000 from India any good? I’m sure my transmission has more problems than what I stated, but that was enough for me to stop inspecting.

    Hi Rick, Thanks for this great info. I'm hoping you may have some tips to help me with my situation. I just got a '48 Willys up and running and got it out on the road for some short rides. For the most part all shifting went well for the first few days but then at one point I started having trouble with shifting. Now when the Engine is running I can no longer shift into first or reverse. It just grinds the gears. However, if I stop the engine I can then shift into first or reverse and then fire the engine back up to get going. The shifting continues to be an issues though after doing this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! -Bill

      It might be getting old but compared to these old Jeeps it’s practically brand new. When I first started the T-90 rebuild guide (written version), it was back in 1999. I’ve watched all five of your rebuild videos now and they are very well done. I think I’ve now got the confidence to tackle a rebuild when and if the time comes. So...here’s a question: My 49 CJ3a doesn’t jump out of second gear, however it does crunch ever so slightly going into second unless I either double clutch or shift veeery slowly from first to second at about a fast walking pace. Is there anything I should try or investigate before tearing the thing apart? Am I likely to see the issue by just taking the tower off for a look see? All other shifting is smooth and silent. Thanks again.

    • @rickstivers3965
      @rickstivers3965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry to say the only thing that can fix that problem is a new second gear synchronizer. Unfortunately, to replace that requires a full tear down. If you can stand it, live with it until you get a major failure. That won’t cause much damage that hasn’t already been done.

I didn’t know I should stitch weld it and neither did he. When we got done the hood was so warped that it wouldn’t lay flat. If you tried to force it flat, it popped up the other way. I’m hoping to go slow and easy this time and prevent that from happening. I was fairly confident on the mechanical restoration but this part I’ve been putting off for a long time. I have watched your previous videos, I love the way you get things done, easy and effective. By the way, I consider my self super lucky, when I bought mine for restoration I did not have to weld a single hole, all I did wire brush, paint and it was back to when it was born :) Looking for the rest of the videos as you go, its been a while :)

      HD, I'm happy your Jeep had been taken care of. Maybe once I get this one done it will be well cared for too.

    I got stuck between second/neutral yesterday while in town. When I pulled the shift tower, the square on the end of the shift cane was actually twisted a bit and jammed between the rails.

    My T90 pops out of second on decel. I noticed as much or more play in my 2-3 shift fork (actually on both) that was on yours. What size roll pin did you use for yours? The shift tower fixes are something I can do quick and easy, I'm supposed to take my CJ2 to Arkansas in a few weeks and am tracking down the last few little issues.

      It certainly was, those kids are now 14 and 16. They aren’t nearly as interested in hanging out with the old man as they were then. That’s okay, we still made memories and the videos are around to help them remember. I figure they’ll want to hang out again when they get older.

    Great video, short sweet and to the point, I've got a Mazda five speed in an f150 that keeps getting stuck in fourth. Ive been inside a five speed out of a ranger before and after tearing it apart and putting it back together about three times on my daughter's high school pickup I had a sneaking suspicion that this was probably my issue.

    Hello Rick, I just picked up a 1945 Jeep Willys CJ2A. It won't go into 2nd gear. 1, 3 and Reverse work fine but it will not shift to second. What do you suggest may be an issue? I would like to have some idea of what to look for before I go opening it up. Thanks

      The shift lever has a lot of play in it as well. I was going to replace the entire shift tower assembly.

    Well, like a dope I followed Rick's Part Number SKS 6206-2RSNR/CE to the tee. I should have checked it but I found out it should be SKS ##### 6208 ####### -2RSNR/CE when I opened the package to the one I ordered. WAAAy TOO Small!

    Is there a reason you skipped the transmission oil retainer washer when assembling the main shaft?

    • @rickstivers3965
      @rickstivers3965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, It got cut out during editing. You are the first person in four years to mention it. Good catch.

      @@rickstivers3965the oil slinger was eliminated in later T90s and plugs were installed in place of the screws the slinger isn’t really needed

      Battle Jack, what you say is true, but he was actually asking about the oil retainer washer that is installed on the main gear and not oil slinger. Unfortunately, I edited out the installation of the washer in the video.
