Shawn was a gift from god

I showed a student Shawn’s stuff. He is now obsessed. He came in one day and wanted me to show him how to play the ultra fast lick starting at 3:25. I just laughed and said “Nobody is playing that anytime soon so I wouldn’t worry about that one.”

Something many players who criticize SHAWN don't seem to grasp is playing the way he does must feel; to quote Spicoli is " AWESOME ...TOTALLY AWESOME!"

@KoldDude I completely agree with the fact that most people would find his melodies catchy though. Not trying to bash everything you say.

@KoldDude I guess he's a "melodic genius" in some people's eyes. But I know advanced musicians and non-musicians alike who are completely bored with anything he has written and would not be impressed by any of his melodies at all.

@andrewkeen24 His music may be simple, but Joe is in fact a melodic genius. Shawn Lane's melodies are great when it comes to emotion (Epilogue for Lisa), but lack the catchiness that Joe's melodies have, which many people enjoy more than emotion or technicality. It all comes down to personal preference. Personally, I enjoy both at different times and so I listen to both artists. Listen to 'Ten Words' or 'Littleworth Lane' if you want Satch songs that combine both emotion and hook.
