I just bought one for 20 bucks, all the parts and in decent shape.

Ordered a replacement battery with stated power of 8000mAh vs. the dyson’s 2800mAh and 21.6V. QUESTION: do I face any issues with such a higher power output?

I love my Riccar 8850 however, recently I open up the bag compartment and there is dust & debri everywhere inside. What is going on? Thank you. I live 50 miles from a large town (Fresno) and the man who used to take care of my vaccumn retired 😪

Thank you so much for posting this video. I was able to get mine apart to see why the fuzzy roller had stopped spinning. Alas, it was the fuzzy roller belt that had broken. Before it broke, it was making some screeching noises, which probably meant something else had gotten stuck or seized up. Since parts aren't readily available and I probably won't be able to order a new belt, I think it's time to move on to another, better-built vacuum that can be more easily repaired. Thank you again!

My main roller with the fins is locked. Won't spin. When I plug it in the light turns from green to red immediately. Any ideas?

The little filter you scrubbed with a toothbrush pulls off. Mine after 8 years is still perfect. Very reliable vacuum with multiple features that other vacuums can't do. Worth the effort and money. Thanks

I went from a straight suction c1 compact to the cx1 pure suction and I love it, it stays very clean then again it gets used like once a month, for the rest of the cleaning I use a Riccar R30 anniversary edition, don’t know why I got both but I really do like them such a huge upgrade from my old shark

Hi. My Shark model is UV900 66. I bought it at Costco. Your video was great until you took off the plastic housing to get access to the fins. From there I cannot get the plastic cover off. I had screws in different places inside the vacuum then your video. And you are right it’s not durable plastic. I am going to try a bit longer, but it might just get put back together as it is.

Rubbish..of course the clutch is servicable ..I ve just done two this month out of Dc04 and Dc 14..the belts badly needed changing and on one the white cog the main belt runs from was worn out.. Available from Ebay Uk for £6 .25 from IE electronics ( Manchester Vacs ) ..with a new white cog plus two belts and a new circlip. ...belt removal tool is handy..the white cogs are only sold by this outlet . Job is straightforward .need very small circlip.pliers or grind down bigger ones to fit ..i did the job in half an hour with no vacuum servicing skills

Can you replace the Lifetime HEPA at all? Is it possible? That's the one thing holding me back from this sucker is that horrific hepa design

Would you recommend that I bring my Sebo E3 and ET-1 to the dealer to get routine maintenance done on it like cleaning you do here in this vid, rather than clean it myself? I just bought it so it has the 10 year warranty. Is this routine maintenance covered free under warranty so that’s why you don’t recommend I clean it myself?

This vacuum is a lot like the Meile U1, with a separate motor for the brush roll. The Meile also has a Twist function that helps with maneuablity. This vacuum uses casters like a canister. Would you say the suction power of the R25 is comparable with a U1?

In the very beginning of the video when you take the entire bottom off the unit that holds the brushes and the scent deodorizer, HOW do you do it?

I once asked my mom how some of the newer uprights we’ve been using compare to what we had when I was a kid. She told me that these newer uprights like the Hoover we have now, has better suction than their predecessors. She also likes the convenience of the clear canister that allows her to see how full it is as well as how easy it is to empty said canister when it gets full. You couldn’t really do that with the older bagged uprights.

I have an earlier Hoover Elite II from 1991, so it has the soft bag, and opens from the top. It stopped sucking up dirt/dog hair very recently, but did a decent job previously but at 30 years old, no filters of any kind, I went out and got a Riccar R25 Standard upright. It was on sale and at the top of my budget at $375 locally so have it on order as they didn't have one in stock, so it'll be in next week. Hand tools were OK, though I have lost the crevice tool, or it was lost when it was still Mom's. She gave it to me when she bought a newer Hoover bagless the same purple as my old Elite. Would've loved to have found a newer, but used Sebo or Miele canister, but not gonna pay shipping via eBay and the store didn't have any used machines on hand.

I bet this was assembled incorrectly at factory. The bottom of that dirt canister looks very clean as does the connection from the hose to the canister. Every vacuum i have worked on has some leakage and the fine dust fills the nooks and crannies. Unfortunately, many consumers think something is working properly because it is new. Credit to the person who brought it in. Poor design by Bissell to not have that cowl indexed so it can only go on one way.

This is a far cry from my 1992 version of this design. Mine lasted 30 years and the hose split after 24 years. I tapes the hose and it went 6 more years. Sears cheaped out in this design. I think the Titan version was much better quality. Say what you want, no vacuum is worth 1200 bucks. The basic technology is 85 years old. They're all molded plastic. Walmart sold those sanitary/eureka/ Hoover convertible clones, in plastic for 69bucks. Those Panasonic canisters were 299 bucks. I have a Riccar canister purchased on close out. It was 400 bucks. It is mush handier than the Lenore ever was. I love the expandable wand and the body is half the size of the Kenmore. But I can't see myself spending 800-1200 for vacuum

We were an all Dyson family, but as they tend to be glitchy and more difficult to repair than other brands, we are replacing with Sharks.

Thanks for showing the teardown, turns out my vacuum has the same problem. Did some more troubleshooting and my power cord is only broken at the actual plug end (probably from repeated yanking out of outlets). The power cord connects to the winding mechanism via two removable contacts, so if that’s the broken part you can replace only the cord itself and save a bunch of money by not buying the whole mechanism. Hi Matt, I love your excitement about the 8850! I have had mine for over 20 years (bought used) and love it! However, she is a bugger to put a new belt on!! I was so excited to watch your video (yes, I am a 8850 geek as well!) and followed most of your instructions step by step except for getting into the motor (I wasn’t comfortable) and waited with excitement to see how YOU replace the belt and roller BUTTTT that portion was in fast motion! :(. I tried so hard to freeze the frames but still couldn’t grasp how you appeared to do it so easily!! Do you have a separate video showing how to do this!? It would greatly help to end the wrestling matches I have with this old girl!

What are your thoughts on the Riccar Canister Vacuum? It has both the HEPA and charcoal filtration. Is it as good or better than the Miele or Sebo Canister Vacuums? I can’t decide and it’s driving me crazy. Great video and thanks for all your wisdom.
