Finishing Touches | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
Over two years later I’ve finally finished the van!
I thought I would get together a final video in the series listing all the little finishing touches I’ve added, from spice racks, to ingenious shower curtain inventions.
Once again, I’ve absolutely ransacked IKEA. They’ve got so many cheap and convenient items, I just couldn’t resist.
If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment below.

Painting, Varnishing and Tiling a Porcelain Splashback | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 951ปีที่แล้ว
Incredibly conveniently, as soon as I had planned to paint the interior of the van, the temperature decided to plummet below freezing which made things slightly more challenging. I decided to give the walls and benches a couple of layers of white paint, but then chose to varnish the ceiling as well as the bed frame and table front for a nice contrast. I also removed all of my cupboard doors and...
Cladding & Auto-carpeting | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 887ปีที่แล้ว
I did the first part of my cladding fairly early on in the build, just after I’d finished all my electrics. I prioritised getting some cladding installed on the ceiling so that my 12V spotlights had somewhere stable to sit. I then bought some stretchy auto-carpet to cover some of the exposed areas that the cladding wouldn’t cover. Mainly the side door and the rear frame. The carpet came with sp...
Building Overhead Cupboards | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
I decided to build two rows of three cupboards, one row above my kitchen and the other above my bed. I also decided to install them before I added my cladding and instead clad around them. One of the cupboards houses my two consumer units and another one includes a double plug socket for incognito charging. We started by making the timber frames, added the divisions with MDF and then nailed on ...
Wiring a Consumer Unit and Plug Sockets | Van Electrics | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 4.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
With my 12V electrical system complete, I just needed to add some plug sockets to allow me to charge things like laptops and phones, as well as plug in a TV and other similar appliances. These things all rely on a 230V AC system, which is why I previously installed a Victron Phoenix Inverter which converts DC to AC. Using a standard household plug, I connected a consumer unit to my inverter. Th...
Plying (everything) and Building a Retractable Table | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK

Now that my bed was built and I’d finished my electrical and water system, it was time to cover everything in plywood! For the majority of upright sections, the two benches and bed frame, we used 5.5mm thick ply. Then for the tops of both benches, we used 18mm thick ply so that it was sturdy to sit on. Using 2x2 timber just like the benches, I built a middle section that slides out from under b...
Installing a Fiamma Water Tank and Float Switches | Van Plumbing | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I decided to install my 70L Fiamma water tank last (for some reason) and with it I installed two float switches which I wired to indicator lights so I can monitor how full my tank is inside the van. Float switches are a simple switch mechanism that when the water level drops below the switch, it disconnects the circuit. With them wired to lights, once the light has gone out I know the water lev...
Plumbing my Kitchen Tap and Grey Water Tank | Van Plumbing | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This would have been a nice and simple job if I hadn’t of been a cheapskate and bought myself and extremely cheap tap. After hooking it up, it decided to leak everywhere and flood my kitchen cupboard. I binned the tap and spent a little more money on a new one and it works a charm! I don’t have hot water coming through my tap so I just plumbed both the hot and cold hoses straight to some 12mm h...
Installing a Joolca Hottap | Van Plumbing | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I decided not to install a full shower in my van. Not only would it take up a lot of space (that I don’t have), I’m also very wary of leaks and sorting where the grey water would filter out. It would also create a lot of moisture in the van. Despite this, I still wanted to have something in place to allow me to clean myself, so I opted for a small portable shower unit placed at the rear of the ...
Installing a Shurflo Water Pump and Fiamma Accumulator | Plumbing | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK

Like my electrical system, just to make things a bit more digestible, I decided to split up the installation of my water system into a few short videos, then later down the line I’ll do an overview video of the entire system. My Underslung LPG Gas System and How To Fill It Up | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK

Due to the fact that you’ll need to get your gas system checked by a professional, I decided to get the professional to install it as well. Because of this, I apologise this isn’t a ‘how to’ video, but hopefully it will give you a little insight into how LPG tanks are installed. I also wasn’t able to linger around awkwardly whilst they installed it, so I’ve only filmed the end product. I opted ...
Building a Simple Wooden Bed (finally) | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 8762 ปีที่แล้ว
I waited quite a while before building my bed as I felt it would get in the way whilst I was working on the rest of the van. There are a million different ways you can construct a bed and to be honest, at first I was a little overwhelmed. As I’m short and plan on sleeping width ways, the bed is actually very small, so I simply decide to screw a length of timber to either wall of the van and the...
Laying Vinyl Flooring (the hard way) | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK

I’m a bit stupid and at the start of the build process, because I was unsure how I was going to floor my van, I decided to wait until I had installed my kitchen and benches before I installed my vinyl flooring. How to Install an IKEA Kitchen | Idiot’s Guide | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion UK
มุมมอง 24K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The initial idea was to use IKEA’s METODs to structure the kitchen. At around £25 each, it’s a real cost effective and simple way to lay out your kitchen and then build on top of them. Like most people who walk through the doors of IKEA, I immediately saw a kitchen the exact same colour as I was planning to paint mine and couldn’t stop putting things in my basket. So glad I've found your videos. Im pretty much ready to buy all my electrical things but just wasnt really sure what gets wired together first or in what order. Ps i like your nose ring. I have one too 😉

    Please I'm confused, do I connect the battery cable bare end to the inverter connector, or I use a ring terminal in the cable? It's just that I don't get to see clearly how is done. Thanks for any response.

    Hi, Thanks for reply but this is absolutely not a case .This is standard commercial renault trafic van. It has never had any modifications at all. 3 core wire is originally fitted electric system buy manufacturer. I have a picture but don’t know how to share it with you. Thanks mate

    Hi , Nice and very informative video! Would you mind to give me a little advice? I’m going to install 3 lights in my renault trafic van. Question is. The old lights has a 3 core cable and most of led lights has only red and black wire. How can I install 2 wire led into 3 wire circuit? Many thanks

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks dude! If the lights have a 3 core cable, that means they were running off an AC current, whereas 2 wire LEDs will likely be requiring a DC current so won’t be compatible. Where’s the power source for the lights?

    Hiya, just wondering what size cable you used to ground? Also, I’ve no space for a ground on my busbar so I’ll be grounding it directly to the van but (stupid question) if the the busbar is earthed is the MPPT not earthed by default as the negative cable is going to it? Clueless as you can tell but will be wiring later and found your videos a great help - thanks a mil!!

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! I believe I used 35mm cable to ground the negative busbar. Essentially as long as the negative busbar is grounded, anything else you connect to it will have a route to ground too 👍🏼

    Enjoying your videos. Had you gone for the 100/20 SmartSolar you could have avoided needing the smart protect, as the 20amp version has a load out with protection. Im only saying this as you mentioned in a previous video that your pannels are less than 100v or 20amp. This is more a message for others looking at building a system, stay below 20 and save money. Nice layout.

    Do you not need a flue if you're using it inside? Also, does it get hot above the heater when in use? Cheers

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently, as the gas tank itself is located outside of the van, this means a flue isn't necessary. It is recommended that these types of units are operated outside, however I only ever use it with both backdoors fully open so there's plenty of ventilation. I have noticed a bit of heat above the unit when in use but not enough to cause any concern 👍🏼
