Sexual Trauma: Restoring Wholeness
Restoring Wholeness After Sexual Trauma: A Group for Empowered Healing
Date & Time: Thursdays from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
Cost: $45 per session (sliding scale available).
Group Format: Virtual on zoom
www.phoenixtraumacenter.com/survivors/
Sexual trauma can have a profound impact on how we connect with ourselves and others, often leaving us feeling disconnected from our sense of safety, trust, and self-worth. This group is designed to provide a nurturing and compassionate space where survivors can begin to heal, strengthen their power, and rebuild trust in themselves and the world around them.
Through coping strategies, somatic-based resourcing techniques, and community support, our focus is on empowering you to reclaim your voice, body, and sense of self as you take steps toward a more peaceful and fulfilling future. Together, we’ll create a supportive environment where you can process your experiences, explore new ways of feeling safe, and build a healthy relationship with yourself and others.
Sarah Jayne Oltz, MS, NCC, CTP (she/they) received her M.S. in Community & Trauma Counseling from Thomas Jefferson University and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of the Arts. As a Certified Trauma Professional, Sarah Jayne has expertise in helping clients navigate the complexities of trauma, and takes pride in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore and process their lived experiences.
Sarah Jayne’s approach is firmly rooted in the belief that individuals have the innate ability to find solutions to their problems and should be empowered to direct their therapeutic journey in collaboration with the therapist. Sarah Jayne’s perspective is holistic and humanistic, integrating talk therapy, somatic practices, expressive arts techniques, identity and values exploration, and mindfulness practices. She combines her knowledge of trauma treatment and the arts to create an environment that encourages self-expression. Utilizing EMDR, Psychodrama, and IFS, she takes an experiential approach, allowing clients to connect with their inner wisdom and find relief from trauma stored both in their body and mind.

This answers a lot of questions I’ve had about why I don’t appreciate being touched by acquaintances. I tell people that I’m not a huggy person so please don’t hug me and definitely don’t sneak up on me. I wish there were a way to tell people that I’m not a huggy person without being off-putting. I feel like people get offended if you don’t want a hug from them. I’m probably overly apologetic about it.

I have been through this. To the point I shut down and quit eating. Nearly starved terminally. I’m recovering but I had lost everything including my ability to think. Thanks for the video.

It is really annoying that you cannot turn off the subtitles. As a deeply traumatized person who is continuously looking for threats they are really disruptive. I try to listen, but then I also have to read the text and stop looking at the man’s face who could be a threat…

Religion can also become shaming by high demand religious standards. If you fail to measure up in their eyes you can find yourself being traumatized by judgement and rejection. Then it becomes spiritual abuse. It’s a terrible net to be caught in. It is a double edged sword.

I had a sleep study done because I was not sleeping much and when I was sleeping I wasn’t able to get into REM sleep properly. Apparently my heart rate got so high the doctors were concerned so put me on Prazosin (blood pressure medication) before going to bed. I’m still on them and I still get night mares but rarely have night terrors anymore. That helped a lot but I found EMDR to be the main thing that helped lessen the nightmares

That the organization I worked for said they believed in Cree natural law and wellness. BS. Clients were re-traumatized. Lateral violence. A toxic workplace. I heard deeply disturbing stories told from the grandchildren of residential school survivors. There was no healthy coping strategies given to staff or any support. My manager targeted me immediately but it took months for me to realize that. It's not safe when organizations hire sick psychopaths for managers. our clients are so vulnerable. My doctor put me on medical leave. I'm healing. I can't imagine how much good our team could have accomplished if we had a healthy manager. Most of us there were genuine and safe. Sucks.

Just stumbled upon this video. I am an MSW working towards my LCSW and I love your presentation of material! I will be watching more of you:) There is sooooo much to choose from when considering framework, modalities, etc. and this approach suits me very well and I can easily see how I can apply these stages to all of my work. Thank you!

It can offered via NHS Talking Therapy if following the CBT, it is identified a more in-depth trauma based approach would be beneficial ( EMDR or DIT).

I am wondering if I should even need to go into those traumas? I have been in CBT/DBT for years and will continue. I believe in treating the mind with such equal care as the body. I have repressed memories that I know how they started, but the memories just cut off. These do not affect me at all in my life and I’m not sure I want to awaken these. I am very functional in life and happy most days. I do have more low days in the winter season. I do have some anxiety and PTSD tied to my partner and sometimes our communication suffers. I have a hard time handling his apprehension as he questions me and his lack of empathy. Not sure if it’s “my trauma from a previous relationship” or really something outside myself coming from him.

How rude! (an awakening this is.) I've felt it, but in the background it until moments ago. I was searching "guilt for self care" and kept getting results for self hate. If it is rude, it's consistent with the events and experiences that brought me here.

I just had a 2nd appointment and she stated EMDR on the 2nd meeting. When I asked about the stages she said a therapist does not necessarily use all the stages or use them in order. anyone have any feedback on this? I watched videos to educate myself and I also asked her about herself stating that trust is one thing I struggle with and it was like pulling teeth. She just wants to jump right in to emdr and everything that I have learned regarding this process....this is not good????? I

  • @Mimi-b0nj0ur

I’m learning here that vicarious/secondary trauma is what I’m experiencing. My young adult child is a direct victim of trauma, some irreparable, and I am now his caregiver. While I’d like to think that I possess a post-trauma growth mindset and that my love will give me the strength necessary to navigate the waters, I can have difficulty negotiating triggers. It takes everything in me to stay positive and to manage well the care my child needs. I want to do more but admittedly, I’m exhausted. I give myself grace but can’t help feeling like I’m failing my child’s optimum recovery.

Switching camera angles is very disruptive in this video. Its too fast and clunky. Better not to play with editting, just do a straight video to camera.
