I created this channel as a platform to share my expertise with students around the world. The coronary circulation: How blood is supplied to the heart.
As the muscles of the heart chambers contract to pump blood around the body, they need a constant supply of oxygen. The oxygen is supplied by blood flowing through coronary arteries that penetrate the muscle, while coronary veins drain blood, along with metabolic waste products, from the muscle into the heart chambers. The video describes the coronary circulation and how it varies during the cardiac cycle. It also explains how coronary arteries are regulated by the sympathetic nervous system and metabolic factors.
