This is a thing I worked on for a bit at the end of last year, but had to ditch (along with pretty much everything else I signed up for, oh well) because of Sequel Wars. Mega Man sprite made by Zedic0n ( zedic0n) and was used with permission. Met sprite was based off the one used in Double Buster ( MMDoubleBuster).

    I hope it's possible to be ported to Genesis with some visual, sound and technical differences and cutbacks like HUDs using the high-priority sprite layer, adjusting the colors to fit the Genesis' 4 rows of 15-color tables with dithering and HBlank palette interrupt with dithered wave sprites for water transparency, shadow/highlight modes for caves, flashlights and floodlights and raster scroll interrupt and 8-frame palette cycles for minecart sections at half or 3rd the frame rate.

    This is absolutely amazing. I love how this is the first original game of yours(I think) that's shared out, and it looks amazing. This is one of those types of homebrews that could've been released in the past and have been extremely successful and a big hit. You need way more popularity. Amazing job, keep up what you're doing!

      If it does well on the original platform, it would receive ports to other platforms like Genesis, MS-DOS, Windows 95, Amiga, TurboGrafx, PS1, and GBA

      The SNES certainly has some drawbacks, but diving into its famous bag of graphical tricks and pushing against its performance limitations has got to be pretty fun for an experienced programmer.

      @@ostiariusalpha Yeah, it's just about actually taking full advantage of the things it excels at, like all the lovely colours, multi-coloured transparency effects, window/shape masks, lots of full overlapping background layers (up to four), the eight different background modes that each have their own particulars, full-screen Mode 7 running at a solid 60fps, Dolby Surround sound support, using all those controller buttons, and actually using FastROM and optimizing the code to maintain 60fps even when there's lots of action going on, etc.

      @@inceptional It's certainly a big tool kit on those two PPU co-processors. FastROM + HiROM were an extra expense back in the day, but they're a no-brainer default choice now.

      @@ostiariusalpha Yeah, I'd say you'd definitely wanna use the FastROM+HiROM now for sure. Although, I imagine there's some people out there who wanna challenge themselves on the lowest spec options possible, but I certainly wouldn't be one such person. I'll tak FastROM any day. :)

      @@ostiariusalpha I'm not actually sure I'll use either of those, for that reason. I'll try to deviate as little as possible from the base capabilities of the system. Current plan is: no expansion chips, LoROM, no fastROM. Pretty confident about the first two, not sure about the latter but I'll see. To be safe, I'm coding the game to be FastROM compatible so I can just toggle the flag if needed.
