One of the reasons a lot of people complain is because they somehow think it's a good way to try to extract more money, benefits, etc. for themselves. They think people who don't complain are "mugs" who are satisfied with everything and who are never going to get any extra money or benefits for themselves. I think that entire way of thinking is pretty awful, and agree with everything you said in this video.

I live in Edinburgh and have done for nearly 20 years. It's one of the warmest and most welcoming places in Scotland but Scotland is like this all round to be honest.

Thanks for this, often wondered how you got to that island. picked the wrong time of year for this especially in scotland, it can get very cold. but it was really enjoyable.

You might also get called "doll" or "love"

It's a certain demographic - mainly male - who will call you "pal". If it's a "working man" - tradesperson, taxi driver - that sort of thing and they don't know your name (sometimes they do) they will use it. It's the "salt of the Earth"/"ordinary" folk/good sorts who will use it. 99% of the time, it's friendly. It's an "all-purpose" greeting. "Pal" means "friend". A school/work/golf club pal/friend. It can be used in other ways, but only if you're a potential "wrong-un" and then it will be a bit darker in tone.
