      @@EfirdStrong It was one of the faster courses in Germany, the "Carglass Köln Triathlon". 2.6km swim (400m real swim, the rest is letting the river Rhine do the work), 81km bike, (quite flat) 19km run. I am a really bad runner, 6min/km = 9.6min/mile. And getting better is a challenge. The short run course saved me 5-10 minutes :-)

    Hi Katie. Your advice on Boston was perfect, especially the point about knowing the history of the race. It fills the runner with awe, and that's a great way to cross the starting line. I've run Boston 16 times between 2000 and 2022, and set my marathon PR (3:13:55) there in 2002. As you note, it is not an easy course to PR, but if you plan and prepare, surprising things can happen. My advice for running Boston is don't hold back TOO much in the beginning. I did that in 2021, coasting the first half and saving my legs for Newton hills, only to find that my quads were locked in a limited range of motion because I had not been lifting my knees and kicking back my heels. Suffered greatly on those hills and finished poorly. The following year I went out easy but focused on contracting and stretching my quads as I ran. Fared much better that year. Keep up the great videos!

      @EfirdStrong 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 16 times!?! That’s amazing! I can’t definitely see why people go back year after year though. Something about the challenge of the course makes it that much more appealing. It’s such a fine line of executing that right balance of holding back but not too much…Chasing that elusive unicorn. 🦄😄

    Nice work on the video and race! The goal will come soon, Ive heard the run was pretty difficult there this year. Definitely considering adding the stryd pod to my training, run power seems like a great data metric to use. See you in September! 🚂

    • @EfirdStrong
      @EfirdStrong 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! The run was difficult this year. It heated up. When I started the run, it was 75 and heated up to somewhere in the low 80’s by the end of the day. I absolutely love the Stryd pod. Though many newer watches offer native power built in. Running with power has given me a love for running on hills. I used to hate them!

    I just ran my marathon this past Mother's day, and beat my BQ by 8:36mins, was hoping for 10mins...but I got stuck in a porta potty for 2mins at around 28km! I'm 95% sure I'm good for a bib for Boston 2025, but you never know...I already time qualified and was accepted to run Chicago 2024, so I don't plan to run another marathon in the 2025 qualifying period. Worst case, if I get cut for 2025....I run Chicago with a chip on my shoulder and qualify for Boston 2026. This is easy info for runners to digest, on a topic that isn't clearly laid out. Well done!

    A very heartfelt reflection on the race. Thank you for sharing. This was my first Boston Marathon, and outside of some Ironman races, my slowest marathon distance since at least 2000. I am from Tucson, Arizona and quite frankly heat has always been a strength of mine. However it really affected me this time around, and I can say that I took in more fluids and calories than ever before and I still struggled. While I’m still scratching my head a bit, I know that lots of others are in the same boat. I will say that the Boston experience had a profound effect on me, and I’m inspired to qualify and come back next year! First qualifying race is in 4 weeks!

    That was actually a great finishing time compared to your A goal. My story was eerily similar to yours... I knew I should have switched to my B goal before the start, but didn't. And around mile 10, I crashed. It was the sun mainly. I ended up walking the water stops and shuffling the last 10 miles, trying not to DNF. It was disappointing, but at least we finished. I may try and get my revenge next year 😏

    • @EfirdStrong
      @EfirdStrong หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting. And congrats on pushing through to the finish. If so that makes the decision a lot easier! :-)

  • @timtrenholm3698
    @timtrenholm3698 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Once you have redlined, walking doesn't help....it will drop the HR, but as soon as you start running again you will shoot right back to where you were. The only solution is to keep yourself in check and not redline in the first place....easy right? LOL. This is why I run with power (Stryd) instead of pace....it's like RPE for dummies. I still monitor the HR to make sure my body just isn't having an off day. But once I know my target power numbers, if I stick within those, I'm generally safe. The other option is a watch like Coros that uses a modified GAP, I think they call it effort pace, where it calculates what your current GAP is so it basically keeps you at a semi-consistent effort level, but they don't take air power into account like Stryd does, which I find is a HUGE factor for me. Congrats on having a successful Boston. I know many people who had a significantly harder day than you did. Well done!

    • @EfirdStrong
      @EfirdStrong หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate the feedback! Caleb has used the Stryd for years, and has tired many times (unsuccessfully) to convert me. 😂 However, I can see where it would be especially helpful on a course like Boston.

      Hey @woodsthriving, I appreciated your race review! I loved the detail and at some point, when I get a BQ and race in Boston, I will revisit that video. Excellent information. You definitely captured so many details that would often go unnoticed but are super helpful. Congrats mate on an awesome race! Way to pivot and still achieve a great time! (-Caleb)

      So hard! It felt way harder than last year to me… I think due to the heat. 🥵 Congrats to you too! Hope you are enjoying the recovery! 🙂 (-Katie)

    Hi Katie, Thanks so much for posting this. It was my first Boston Marathon and it was all such a blur, this helped me remember some of those special, little moments. I now remember the friendly volunteers greeting us at the high school and the announcer in Athlete's Village calling people out. I made a lot of mistakes on my run, starting with not adjusting my fuel/hydration schedule to account for the heat. I cramped hard around mile 10 and made my first Gatorade stop at that point. Walking a bit, my legs started to work again and I pushed on, slowly, until the end. Congrats on a great run and I hope to see you next year! ;-) Oh, and I did manage to get my Sam Adams pint glass! Cheers! 🍻

      I agree - it’s such a blur! And so hard to explain to people. Congrats on pushing through to the finish and for all the money you raised for your awesome charity!!! 🥳

    today is one Boston day. rip Martin Richard (killed by the second bomb) Krystle Campbell (killed by the first bomb) Lingzi lu (killed by the second bomb) Sean collier (shot to death by Tamerlan Tsarnaev) Dennis Simmonds (died from head injuries from a pipe bomb thrown by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev during the Watertown shootout) I feel sorry for those 5 families that they lost their loved ones and the friends that remembers them. and they still missed them after they were wiped out during the marathon bombing.

    Love your Boston video series! I've run it several times and I still find good tips and suggestions. One tip I like is a small, throw-away sports bottle (with spout) to drink my favorite electrolyte mix during the first couple of miles. It's so crowded at the start that I skip the first few fluid stations. If I toss bottle around mile 2-3 then the fluids at mile 4 or 5 are perfect (first is at 2 mi as you mentioned). That sort of jump starts my fluids (esp if warm) without the need for endless port-a-potty lines pre-race from drinking pre-race.
