MUST HAVE GEAR -23 Uses For A Shemagh #hiking #backpacking #adventure
Just now found this. Awesome. Love these tips. I also use the Lixada water tube so the bottle stays in a hip pocket. And all alternatives like your water bottle hack are marvelous!
The one way valve also means you can fill from the top with safe water to save on the filter use if needed. I have the titanium and it goes everywhere with me, not just the hiking and camping trips. A true EDC water bottle. Pro tip, if the creek water is murky filter through a cloth into the grayl to further increase filter uses.
Wish I could use it on the roof of my mouth. It started when I swallowed food and the food was relieving an itch at the beginning of my throat that I didnt know I had. My throat stopped after a day or two but then the roof of my mouth developed itchy bumps. I had no idea why my mouth was all of a sudden so itchy. I did apply fast orange on a spot right next to my right eye, washed it off and used a piece of paper towel to dry after I had been scratching for days not realizing it was poison ivy. Instant itch relief. I really wish my husband would get rid of all the poison ivy in my yard knowing I've had multiple reactions. Neither he nor our kids have ever had a reaction that I've ever known.
You sir, are a genius! Thank you so much for this info!!
I've not been here. I'll definitely have to check this area out. Thanks for sharing!
That's a nice spot.
Simple but effective
Appreciate that. I'm a simple guy.
@Hike-ALOT 👍😎
Long live Texas
No doubt. 👍
Excellent…simple and light weight. I would add a 55 gallon trash bag to add to your shelter option. Keep em coming brother!
An item(s) that I've added to my daypack and jackets is chemical hand warmers in case the weather takes a turn for the worse and the temperature drops. I even figure that in an emergency I could use them to stay warm(er) for 8 or 12 hours if I had to shelter overnight in a tarp or bivvy.
Ah good catch. I usually toss those in and haven’t picked them up this year yet. Good call.
Great video! Regards
Appreciate you checking it out. Glad you liked it.
slick kit thanks for sharing.watching from wisconsin, coming off almost 2 weeks of early artic blast. couple nights low with windchill was -5 daytime was 2 to 3. always like a good bag demo.. no mini saw or multi tool? I have the same tp and tube.
I don’t often carry a saw for hiking since there is typically plenty of stuff on the ground. I do carry a decently sized SAK as an EDC that has a small saw. Thanks for checking it out.
Those Pull Start Fires are awesome! Glad I’m not the only one carrying them.
They are pretty slick. My wife bought a case of them a while back for me to test out and they are pretty darn dummy proof.
Great video! Thank you for your hard work.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching. Much appreciated David.
Nice presentation man, pack looks really convenient and easy to use!
Appreciate that! It’s pretty easy to pack and unpack for sure plus it carries nicrly.
What, no toilet paper or wipes. Also some hand sanitizer that can also be used as fuel for fire.
The PortaWipes in the tube are compressed TP wipes. They work quite well. I should add some hand sanitizer though, good call.
Good pack load out Ray
Thanks James. Hope you’re having a nice holiday season sir.
@Hike-ALOT Thanks, you as well Ray!
❤
Thanks for checking it out Matt.
i bought a haven, they have great customer service but it was one of my worst purchased camping gadgets.your results may vary as i did not have the safari . . anyone who has slept on an air mattress knows that it loses at least some air pressure in the night, creating a V. this is compounded in a hammok and the shoulder squeeze you wake up to is equally compounded; at least in the wide model. on mine the build quality was not great with random droplets of glue on the fabric as well as missed/sloppy stitches sprinkled around more than i would have liked. i used the warranty on the mattress and poles upon arrival due to defects. honestly, the real killer is the sockets you put the poles in because they wore out within a dozen or so uses. your results may vary as i did not have the safari .
Yeah it sounds like that was a recurring issue with some of their mats. I didn’t see it so much with the safari so that was part of my draw to it. I did though notice they’ve also released a new mat that is supposed to stay flat and not curl. I have a friend who has ordered it so I’m curious to hear how he likes it. I haven’t seen any issues with the stitching and stuff on this one but perhaps they do a bit more on these since the material is so much thicker.
The reliability issues of the original Haven Insulated pad have supposedly been resolved with the 2024 True Level XL pad. They also made the spreader bar pockets more robust and added double zippers and a lounge strap on the Haven XL. I've spent 50+ night in it so far and no issues with either the pad or the hammock.
That a nice pack, just the right size
I’ve really been enjoying it so far. It fits me just right.
I carry an alcohol stove and a small food bag in case I want something hot to drink or a quick meal. The food bag has snacks, coffee, bouillon cubes, and a freeze dried Mountain House meal. I've actually thought about getting a pair of microspikes, even though I'm in Texas too. We're lucky when we get snow, but I'd love to keep an eye on the weather and head out to camp so I can get some good snow photos.
Yeah I hear you, depending on the outing I usually toss in some sort of snack as well. It’s pretty funny since I bought the spikes I don’t think we have had a single snow flake at my house. 🤣
Thats a great looking shemagh, Combat Flip Flops?
That’s the one. I really like the ones they sell.
Completely mislabeled video. That's not your survival kit, but the pack I presume you use for it.
It’s the first part of a much longer video of the same name that is linked in the description.
@Hike-ALOT If TH-cam won't let you rename/retitle the short, shame on them.
I just bought my second GEN. It’s my first grayl water filter. This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you keep tally of the gallons you filtered through or the number of times so you know when to buy a new filter?
I worry less about tracking output and just replace the filters when they stop wanting to filter water. The lifespan of most filters is really driven by how dirty your water is when you filter it.
Matthew McConaughey, is that you?
Alright, alright, alright
Good hammock design Ray. I have a Warbonnet Warbonnet XLC hammock and modified it to setup on the ground with 550-cord loops. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Ray!
You too sir and have a Merry Christmas as well. Thanks for following me along on this journey.
Once you said batteries it not for me do you know if there a new model usb c chargeable
Not that I have seen. I run rechargeable batteries in mine and that helps but is less convenient than just plugging the device in for sure.
I have looked at these hammocks and think they would be extremely comfortable. I do a lot of Jeep camping so the weight would not be an issue. I want the warbonnet ridgerunner for back packing trips. Have you seen the Amok Draumr UL Hammock? Jon at Lost Lakes uses them and they look comfortable as well. Thanks Ray for the setup demonstration.
Yeah that’s mainly when I plan to use this…..truck camping. I have seen those before but never had a chance to try one out. They do look comfy.
Good video
Appreciate you checking it out.
I am skeptical I bought these gloves last year and return them because they absolutely do not keep your hands warm. What they are good for if you are working out in the cold and you sit them inside where is room temperature and turn them on high leave them for 10 to 15 minutes you can take periodic breaks to get your hands warm but actually using them outside in the cold, forget about it
Did yours ever work correctly? I’ve used these a few times now and so far they have been downright toasty outside. So much so that I usually can’t run them much longer than a few minutes. I was originally skeptical too because I’ve tried heated socks several times and never had a pair to work.
Yo michael, i just bought a pair of heated gloves and they are super warm inside, but from the moment i go outside they just dont heat, or i dont feel it anymore. Is this for all heated gloves or did i get scammed
Venom is poison what if you eat it.
Keep It Simple Smiley! Thank you for vid, i love short sharp demos.
Glad you enjoyed it. What can I say, I’m a simple guy. 👍
That is what's called an oppression rag.
Looks like you all survived!!
It was touch and go for a while. 😂
Jmmy you good 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 ❤❤❤❤Pop 1235 76
How is 600 cal and 17 g of protein too much food that’s like a snack
The first couple of days on trail I’m just typically not overly hungry so I have to force myself to eat. Around day 3 the hunger kicks back in.
Pretty cool! I'm working on a knot challenge as we speak and I'm doing a farrimond friction hitch! It's probably my favorite new knot!
Yeah that’s a good one too. I think I did a video a while back on the exploding version of it. Knots are fun in general.
@Hike-ALOT yes sir it is! Thank you for watching and God bless!
“All is arout around you”😂
The Mylar blanket is great for collecting rain water as well.
Yes sir it is. Great point.
Great video! Another reason to leash your dog is to keep them from eating stinky things. I learned this the hard way. My dog ate something while backpacking the Sierras and ended up in the vet hospital. Fortunately 3000$ later he is ok. I also recommend putting a wide roll of self-sticking gauze and a women’s menstrual pad in the dog’s first aid kit. This can be used to pack a large wound. One other thing. I would have to wear a pair of roller skates to hike my cattle dog’s hike!
Yes great point. I’ve had a few snacks get snatched up that I would prefer they ignore. Glad yours ended up OK. And admittedly I had a dog that I walked exclusively on roller blades at one time as well.
i have an older version of this tent in canvas - it is heavy but man it warms up some hot, If using a wood fired hot tent stove, and you have a partner with you, it is a little tight with your gear. That being said we are committed to camp in it the first weekend of every month not matter what the weather is up here in the Canadian Great Lake region; should be fun.
I love the format of the set up and the added ability to toss in a stove is awesome. I’m sure you enjoy yours quite a bit.
Good information Ray
Thanks for checking it out, my friend.
This is not a very good thermal monocular. Absolutely not worth the money
Neat
Thanks. I don’t use the little stove very often but when I do this little thing is still the go to with it. It’s been just fine so far.
Hi just wanted to fact check this my grandad was 71 he turned it on March 20th and this was a month after my brothers birthday. They weren’t next to eachother because the tent we used had three rooms. The entrance room and two rooms jn the back. I was there and I wouldve died aswell if i hadn’t woken up when I did. We were also with my uncle who was in a seperate tent.
Thank you for the clarifications and I’m very sorry for your loss. I always hate to see tragedies happen when people are out enjoying the outdoors. Here in TX during the summer we see a lot of heat exposure casualties so we dont often have to deal with cold weather conditions.
How far can you get from road in the state of Texas senor Ray? Great video BTW
Gracias sir. Oh only about 6 and a half miles if you know which way to go. Not that far at all.
What about weight? What is the difference? Also, how much fuel do you use to heat all that up? My thru hike pack, takes into account how many meals I get out of a single canister of fuel. When planning all that information matters. Along with caloric count.
I don’t boil the food the recommended timing. I bring it to a boil and then move the entire cook pot into an insulated cozy for heating.
Costco has it on sale right now for $70
That's a great price. Thanks.
If you get the #10 cans of Mountain House meals and divide them up they cost about $3.50 per serving.
Yeah that makes a huge difference.
It has Micro USB... WHY couldn't they use C...
The newer ones may have a C. I have had this one for a lot of years at this point. I’m not even sure I had seen a C back then.
@@Hike-ALOT if it is a bit older I understand 🙏 it just hurts me so so so much when new products use Micro USB, it costs the exact same to use C 😔
