    Did you find a bed? I did a stepside conversion on my old Travelette. A C900 bed is the correct length. I ended up sectioning a short step bed and putting a fender without the spare notch on mine. I really liked the stepside on the Travelette

    I want to do this setup but for a motorcycle. In theory it'd work perfectly with all the leaning and all.

    • @marceld6061
      @marceld6061 ปีที่แล้ว

      My motorcycle trailer incorporated a U-Joint from a drive shaft for the up/down and left/right flex. The part attached to the bike was rigid. Mine was a single wheel trailer so I wanted the trailer to tip with the bike.

    • @needlesandseats
      @needlesandseats ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marceld6061 I see yeah. Id like to have a two wheel trailer for relatively short trips like to the shop and back or if I need to move a small amount of goodies from one place to the other, however, the hitch for my desired setup would honestly only need to be able to spin around like in a 360 degree fashion to accommodate for the leaning of the bike.

    I learned years ago, you can’t have just one IH. Fyi, oil pooling on the intake manifold is from the the intake bolt threads not being sealed. Oil can leach up the bolts because they go all the way through into engine. If you’ve noticed, IH used brass washers on them bolts to stop this. It’s much better to use a sealer on the bolt threads to stop this. I would just pull one bolt at a time and seal the threads and pitch the brass washers. Another trick I’ve learned is to put a small amount of sealer on the under side of each rocker cover bolt head. Oil will also leach up them bolts because there is not enough gasket material around the bolts. And, always make sure the PCV valve is working correctly and the flame arrestor in the valve cover is plumbed correctly into the air cleaner. Either one can create major oil leaks. Keep on Scoutin!💪🏻

    4x6 JJ looks awesome for go anywhere off road in your video. Do you think the 6x8 which I think you had could do similar off roading assuming trail is not to narrow? or do you think it will get bogged with approach and decent angles? Contemplating the 6x8 since we are a family of 4 and don't think the 4x6 will be big enough. Have 2 and 5 year olds along with wife.

    Not sure I’d trust the grade 8 bolt after welding on it.... you’ve heated it up and taken the strength out of it.....

    • @chadmjohn
      @chadmjohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was about to comment on the same. Welding on hardened materials will change the material profile. It is likely a great degree of brittleness was imparted due to the extreme heating. Off road I wouldn't be to0 worried as the worst case scenario is you lose your trailer, however I would not tow on the road with it. I doubt the maker uses it for on road towing (even though demoed that way in the video) and likely swaps it out when offroad to this hitch. Offroad though, it looks great and he did a good job creating it for cheap! I do agree about the pintle hitch though, already does all this and is ridiculously strong.

    • @christopherrowley7506
      @christopherrowley7506 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadmjohn it shouldn't make it brittle, it would make it soft. Heating makes it soft, quenching heated material makes it brittle, reheating slowly and evenly (tempering) can dial it in where you want it. So I think in terms of safety it's probably not going to snap off, but since it is soft it could potentially get deformed and seized. It could be he did in fact spray it with water after welding in which case it would stay hard. Bolts tend to be on the brittle end of things anyway exactly to avoid the threads from deforming, but it means they tend to snap over bend.
