Giant Reign Restoration Cost Analysis
มุมมอง 1332 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey TH-cam, I apologize for the late video. I had some camera and editing issues. I wasn't able to upload me servicing the fork or the shock on this 2009 Giant Reign, so I will need to redo those videos in the future. This video is me going through the bike and letting you know how much money we put into it in order to get it up and running again. Let me know what you think. Best, Nate @WatchNato

Giant Reign Restoration: Linkage Service & Crank Arm Installation
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey TH-cam, In this video we go through the linkage and inspect/replace the bearings. Like I mentioned in the video, this service is overlooked a lot, and can cause issues with your suspension if it's not taken care of. In the video, at 5:12 I use the word "broke". What I meant to say was, "The bearing 'broke' away from the linkage." The bearing itself did not break. Thank you for watching, and...
Giant Reign Restoration: Replacing Chainring & Bottom Bracket
มุมมอง 1.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey TH-cam, In this video, I show you how to replace your chainring and bottom bracket; two easy parts to replace, but difficulties can arise if you are not careful. For the chainring, there are two things you need to pay attention too: number of teeth, and bolt circle diameter (BCD). The number of teeth on the chainring (especially if it's a single ring in the front) is going to make a big dif...
Giant Reign Restoration: Replacing the Cassette
มุมมอง 7723 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey TH-cam, In this video, I show you how to remove and install a cassette on a free hub body. There are three important tools you will need in order to complete this job: crescent wrench, chain whip, and a lock ring removal tool. Park Tools has all of the bike tools you'll need, so go support your local bike shop and get those tools there (if you can). Best, -WatchNato
Giant Reign Restoration: Intro
มุมมอง 5943 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey TH-cam, I know a lot of us have an older bike laying around not being used, so instead of giving it away or selling it for next to nothing, let's put some time and money into it, and bring it back to life. I have a 2008 Giant Reign that has definitely seen better days, so this is the perfect bike to show you what needs to be done, and how much money we are going to spend getting this thing ...

Hey there, great video. I am rebuilding the same set of forks but can’t find the oil quantity for the inner fork, could you advise? Thanks!
@@RobD551 Hey, I looked up the inner chamber (inner damper rod) amount and the manual recommends 193 ml. I hope that helps. Best, Nate
Fantastic mate, thank you. 🇳🇿
quick and easy thx for posting
Español
Great vid, I use it as a reference for whenever I am disassembling my breaks.
Love the video, very clear and precise. I’m having a problem with one of the levers I rebuilt. It wants to come all the way back to the handlebar grip, whereas the other to doesn’t. I’ve repeated the process three times and the lever continues to come all the way back. What am I missing? Thanks for your help.
@@craigwhite7142 Hey, thank you for watching the video. I need some clarification, is there oil in the system? Like did you bleed it three times or fix the lever three times? If there is no oil in the system, then that will cause that; or if there is oil, then there is too much air in the system. Again, let me know if I’m missing anything. I’ll do my best to help. Best, Nate
@@watchnato Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The lever/system has not been bled yet, nor does it have any fluid in the system. I have rebuilt the lever three times.
@@craigwhite7142 Hey, If I’m understanding correctly, then the problem is there is no oil in the system. Once you bleed the brakes the lever will retract after you let go.
Gracias bro por el video thank you!!
What grease did you use?
@@dustingoldman Hey I usually just use some SRAM butter, or Bel-Ray moto grease. Best, Nate
Hay , Mate !!Thaks for your video ,and Hop you don;t mind I put your TH-cam info. in my post !!🙏🙏🤘🤘🤟🤟BTW Ihad sub. your channel too !!👍👍
What size of your oil seal?
@@TANGARURANGARIEL I use RockyMountainATVMC when I order all of my parts. I am not finding the seal size, but if you know the year, make, and model they will be able to send you the parts you need. For example, the seal part number for my bike is: 51153-36F00
I don't want to take the forks off all the way from my bike can i just unscrew the cartridge and replace oil that way?
@@mjrybread Hey I’m pretty sure you are going to have to take the forks off your bike to replace the oil. You’re going to have to take the top cap off to drain the oil. I’m not sure how you would drain the oil without taking them off. Best, Nate
@@watchnatoI just want to suck out a little oil cuz the forks are way to stiff
Dude thank you so much, such a clear and helpful video
I have got the xcr Lo fork and removed the lockout cartridge but reddish kind of oil came from the lower bolt. Is this oik from the cartridge or from the fork?
@@peteroostveen8315 Hey, are you talking about the xcr air lo fork? Just curious but you shouldn’t have a lockout cartridge if you have an air fork. That’s standard, but maybe I’m incorrect. If it’s an air fork then you have to worry about oil from the fork. Let me know if you have an air fork, or give me your exact fork and I can do some research. Best, Nate

Uzun süre kullanılmadığında hava yapıyor mu ?
Great vid homie. Finally started having this issue with my G2r. Theyre under warranty but I cant wait that long and run a DIY channel as well. First time dabbing into SRAM. You really helped me out. Hope youre still making videos. Your really informal and patient.
Hey @HippieMTB, I really appreciate the comment, and I definitely need to get back to making videos. Thanks again!
what tool did you use for the top one
Very helpful 👍
Excellent Would this also work for the code r brakes What length of piston should I buy thinking of upgrading the alloy pistons
Thank you for keeping things mostly in focus. Made a huge difference.
Thanks so much for the video! Very helpful! I assume you sent the extra right Scram Guide brake that you have to a commenter long ago, but if not, that's exactly what I'll be needing for my bike.
The winner never responded, would you like it? I’ll mail it to you if you’re in the US. We might have to figure something out if you’re out of the US. Best, Nate
wd not much of a break in lube it evaperates in no time
I like the graphics. Where did you get them?
Hey @andyhoms2001, I bought it used with those graphics and have no idea where to get them. I would try Rocky Mountain Atv Mc. I get all of my stuff from them. Thanks for watching! Best, Nate
Perfect! Thank you. Easy to follow!
Excellent
My lever’s a little sluggish coming back, was wondering if I could just pour some dot fluid down the piston channel from the outside (where the lever push rod is) instead of pulling the whole thing apart. Great video man!!
Hey @MaquinasDePalomitas, When was the last time you bleed your brakes? If you haven’t bleed them in a while, I would try that first. And if they are still sluggish, then your piston might be grabbing or need to be cleaned and greased, so you would have to take it out. Let me know what you think. Best, Nate
@@watchnato Hey man, let me just say how grateful I am, the video is super helpful and taking the time to answer just blew my mind. I’ve never bled the brakes, I’ve had the bike since new, 5 years ago. The bleed kit just arrived so I’ll probably do the bleeding first thing in the morning. Thanks again man!!
No problem, I really hope it helps!
can i use 5w fork oil for the lowers?
🎉❤ Thank You! You made it easy
I have a 1999 RM 125 and I have a plastic tube inside of my main chamber . Is this normal?
Hey @cocas1080, Can you be a little more specific? What part of my video does your part relate too? I can do some research and help out. Thank you for watching. Best, Nate
@@watchnatoit’s a big white plastic tube inside of my main chamber and it has a metal end . It’s like my spring hits it or something… I’m about to take the other fork apart to verify which way it goes.
I can send you pics later what’s your insta ?

The fork cartridge tool is on the fork wrench
This saved my ass at work today putting on a new lever blade. Great video! Thanks!
Bro, do the valves open at certain rpm? Or as soon as the motorcycle starts, they should already be working?
Bro las válvulas se abren a ciertos rpm? O en cuanto se enciende la moto ya deberían de estar trabajando?
This is a great and very explanatory video!!! You did a great job at filming this and getting up close so we can c what’s going on
Thanks Patrick, I appreciate the feedback. Best, Nate
I cant comprehend reasons to replace one plastic piston, which expanded in case of heat, for another the same piston, which will create the same headache to you after some tearm. May you have bought updated version by SRAM, can you tell me about it? thx a lot
Its those 2 proprietary seals that you need to replace
I have a problem during hot weather with my GUIDE T brakes. Could U tell me pls are there the same plastick piston or another? I want to order replacement alu details. THX
Hey Odissey013, The Guide T brake is pretty much the same as the Guide R; the change or Mai. Difference between the two went into the lever reach adjustment. I’m not aware of ordering an aluminum replacement piston for them, but the SRAM guides have been known to have issues when they heat up. Best solution or my opinion would be to get different brakes, or pull out the piston, clean it, and apply some SRAM lubricant on it. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if I was of any help. Best, Nate
the piston should move freely inside? Because mine is stuck, I must push it out from the cable side. Edit: What did you use on the rubber seal?... some kind of vaseline?
They all stick, the seals are cheap and swell then disintegrate in the body
You take forever to explain things but good video...
Hey i have a fork very similar to this and the rebound adjustment knob doesnt seem to be connected as it has lost alot of the resistance it used to have...is it possible to over adjust where it runs loose??...it tinkered with the adjustment a few times but nothing extreme so i am a bit confused
NIce instruction. Please tell me where you bought the replacement lockout cartridge. I cant find it anywhere! Thank you
never mind it has been discontinued and replaced with the XCR-LO which suntour says will fit but you need to transfer the threaded cap from the old.
Had a problem with that snap ring stuff... mine was not used for quite some time and everything is stuck.. this video is a start... hope to find a proper anap rjng tool or just have to make myself one.. thanks...
Parktool makes a few installation tools like the TNS-4 instead of abusing that screwdriver. It will work better but does cost more.
Great addition on the lever blade. That bloody spring takes loads of faffing about if your not paying attention taking it apart. I think that took me the longest. Kudos.
Newbie here with a dumb question, Will these forks fit on any 29er mtb or do they come in different sizes?
Hey Marv, They all come in different sizes, so you need to make sure that you get the right one. Is there a specific fork you are looking for? Best, Nate
Great video, I am about to change my own forks for the first time, do the forks come with the crown race or do you re-use the one that came with the bike?
Hey Craig, Unfortunately the fork companies are not going to send you a new crown race. The crown race comes from your head set and needs to match the bearings you are running. You’ll need to pull your head set apart if you want/need a new crown race. I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Best, Nate
@@watchnato yeah that’s what I thought, so it’s crown race to match your headset not your forks, the bike isn’t old and I’ve not done many miles on it so I’m sure I can use my old one, if not I’ll just get a spare one incase I need it. Thanks for replying
@@molley17 You are correct, and I’m glad I could help. Good luck with the nee fork! Best, Nate
I'm just about to fix mine, thank you for the SRAM guide
I have the same lever and I’m having problems bleeding i can’t push fluid though the system it’s completely solid as if a valve isn’t open, I’ve taken the lever apart and mine seems to have a red piece at the end of the spring unlike yours. The problem I have is definitely to do with the lever as I disconnected the hose and tried syringing the fluid through and again it was solid and nothing come out of the open cable end
Hey Alfiedonk1, Describe the little red piece? Is it part of the valve assembly? Also, did you check the cable? There is a little red hose barb at the end of the cable. Best, Nate
did you have any luck? i have the same issue
Some people take the hose off, undo the bleed port and reservoir, then blow compressed air into the hose port on the lever body. I had one set that I had to remove the piston as per this video, then clean and polish the barrel the piston slides in. There was rubber melted and stuck to the walls
the 2 bolts holding it on because of its design put plenty grease on them bolts. if the lowers fill with water over time it gets rusted tight and just spins when trying to take off
do the allen bolts for the powervalve it self have a torque spec
"HUGGGHHHH that ain't goin no where" is the torque spec
