Applause. This is outstanding
@@damiancummings609 Thank you, much appreciated, hope you’ve seen the others too
I was up that tower with my Uncle Peter Gregg when it was still a working bridge, bit of a climb
@@mikebyrne3682 Well done, when I visited the tower recently I got half way up and my vertigo got the better of me (that and the warning to be careful due to its condition)
@@Buugane i a going back 40 years or so
very interesting to see back in ilse of man very good have see town centre one
@@welshmanjasonpatrick8607 thank you, there is a new animation about to appear shortly about the old Douglas swing bridge
Fascinating, so clever - but shouldn't the Nameplate machine cost 1/2d, and not 1/2p?
Doh, yes
Another fabulous animated trip of a time gone by. You deserve a knighthood for the amount of research to get every piece of detail captured and then the massive amount of hours to create this for us all to enjoy. HUGE thank you (Adele via Chris)
Had no idea the Palace was like that, aside from the Lido having worked there (sitting here right now in the Palace Hotel!). An excellent short short Stu, thanks. Hope it gets the views it deserves.
Another superb animation thank you Stuart. Really can't put it to words how good this is. The first song is interesting I've not heard it before. Who was it by ? Thanks again.
It was by an Australian vaudeville singer WIlliam Holt Williams aka Billy Williams. Not only was it about the Isle of Man but was recorded in 1913 which was perfect for this animation. More info at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Williams_(music_hall_performer) which includes a link to a wax disc archive where this came from
Incredible!
I hope you get some kind of recognition for this. This is SO interesting. I love it! Well done
Thank you so much! Think I will have a bit of a rest till the next one, Derby Castle perhaps?
Sounds fantastic. My parents own the Welbeck Hotel, built in 1894, and all this blows my mind, to know it was around in that time.
@@xloosheyx small world, my family had the Delamere Hotel across the road in the early 1970s
@@Buuganeoh wow! I was asleep in my grandmas front room when the ‘new’ Delamere went up shortly after being built 😮 it was very hot, I woke up to flames going past the window! (Windy!). The Welbeck was extremely fortunate not to have been damaged by it! I’ve shared your YT on the Welbeck Facebook page by the way 🥰
That was awesome, thank you so much. I am sending this on to a dear friend who I've worked with for the last year and we both love History. I worked at the Palace Hotel untill 2 weeks ago and having watched "The Holiday Isle" video clip on you tube, I have made mental notes of iconic sites and their stories, just because they are so fascinating. Because I worked at the Palace, I am super intrigued about Castle Mona. I don't know what it is but there is something about that building that tickles me and from what I have heard, it seems to be steeped in mystery. (Depends who tells the mystery) I Know. I looked at that Ballroom Dancing venue every day when walking in and thought of the thousands of dancers that were there daily. Now, it's a car park. Thank you for this wonderful labour of love. The visuals are stunning.
I lived at the Castle Mona for 2 years when I was a kid, my parents ran it when the Casino moved from there to the newly opened Palace Casino in 1966
I cannot believe what I am seeing it 's like as though you have brought history alive on the screen. Living on the island and knowing of the history this really shows it of well. Please can you comment on what software you used to make it. Also have you done other places in the world.
Hi, I just concentrate on old Douglas. I have 4 other animations if you search for buugane. Two are based around old Douglas North Quay before they knocked most of it down in the 1930s, there is a ride along the Marine Drive tramway and one on the Douglas cable tram along Victoria Street and Prospect Hill. Characters and animations are done with Reallusion’s iclone and character creator software. The buildings can be made with any 3d software (I use a very old version of Modo bought when it was affordable for hobbyists) and they are textured using Substance Painter. The whole thing is put together using Unreal Engine 5.3 which is free!
Amazing and fascinating as always!
Thanks for creating this - I can't imagine how much work must have been involved! Very well done.
Amazing footage. I need a Delorean time machine !!!! Love to go back in time to see it for real.
You and me both!
This is outstanding. Well done!
Thank you, much appreciated
Always enjoy your work but you've really surpassed yourself with this one. Superb!!
First class, well done.!
Thank you Rob, think I will have a little break before the next one …Derby Castle here we come!
@@Buugane , I look forward to it with excitement, many thnks again for your fabulous work.
How big a tourist attraction would this be if it were rebuilt. Better than Beamish.
My Father was born in 1926 at #1 South Quay, so he would have been 9yrs old when all of this was destroyed
Love it, is the statue of Queen Victoria still there?
Yes, but it is on the corner of the replacement building, there is a photo of it in the animation
GREAT STORY.
Was this on a simulatior game?
I made the buildings/ tram etc using Modo, textured in Substance Painter, characters using Reallusion software then the whole thing put together using Unreal 4.6
Quite superb and so much that I didn't know!
Brilliant, well done!
loved it. grew up in pulrose during the 70's 80's. port soderick was amazing as a child. the penny arcade in the cliffs! the outdoor pools, beautiful Glen, restaurant and beach with a beautiful jetty to snorkel off. we always mooched their as kids and as a family. it's my one place in the world that I feel deeply connected too. much ❤
Very interesting! Love what you’ve done! My Grand Parents live where the supermarket is today, back of Strand Street, I think it’s now a Shoprite store. I believe it was not a good area of Douglas at the time. They were hard working class people and I’m sure life was a struggle, my Grandmother worked full time until she was 75 years old, and refused to collect her pension!
Thank you, re your grandparents, I think you may be talking about Chester Street area possibly. If so, the supermarket has closed (last used as a Covid vaccination hub). If you go to the online iMuseum.im and search for Chester street there are some images of the area prior to its demolition and replacement with a multi storey carpark and supermarket
How ace was that? 😊

Great job,Stuart. lovely nod to our past Manx history 👌..that'll be 155 subscriptions now I'm added to the list
Thank you
Brilliant!
Excellent. The Marine Drive Tramway was the only railway on the Island to operate Standard Gauge - 4ft 8.5in.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Excellent!
amazing work Stuart... glad to see you are still at it... question... was this rendered in "Blender"?...... would be interested in knowing as I am tempted to attempt something like this for our town... the detail in this video is amazing.
The main environment is Unreal Engine which, for non monetary projects like these is free!. I create the landscape first in Unreal, using top down views of what ever reference maps I need. Take a lot of time making sure the maps/s are correctly scaled. In the case of this last animation, where heights are involved, I placed simple blocks of the correct heights along the route as guides and then sculptured the landscape up accordingly. I created the buildings, tram, trackbed etc. in a 3D package (in my case Modo but any package such as Blender would do the same thing). Again, take time to ensure the scale is correct. I then export these as .obj files and texture them using Substance Painter and then bring them into Unreal where they are placed over the maps at the correct place and, hopefully, they fit! The various actions are recorded in Unreal but II use Vegas Pro to put the final shots together. Half the fun is finding the reference materials to make the buildings but it does take time!
An outstanding achievement!
Brilliant. Thank you. 😊
Amazing. Great work. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Fantastic!!! Informative and sooo fascinating 😁 thank you for this
Wondering howcome you didn't start at Douglas head and carry on beyond Whing? I guess lack of images but can do some guesswork based on the locations of the incline?
Starting on Douglas Head would require me to model all of the bay in the background, just too much for me to try and would have had technical issues with trying to create such a big landscape. You are right about images from the Whing onwards, couldn’t find any of the Port Soderick halt though I don’t think there were any buildings there. the animation would have also run for too long for many to stay interested.
@Buugane I can understand that, I don't think I've ever seen a close up image of anything beyond the corner at Douglas Head, but I think there might be some which show the entertainments on Douglas head which may show things from a distance, I seem to remember having seen some images of the top Funicular Station, there's a lot of the bottom one. No doubt you are already aware but one of your end images showed the original cars from the Falcon Cliff incline that was moved to Port Soderick, they were used as kiosks on the promenade there after the bigger cars were built. I remember my Grandfather saying he had some memories of the Marine Drive running before the war.
I still keep thinking I never got round to digging in the location of the car pits at Little Ness (often said I would do this as a child)... maybe there's scope for a proper archaeological excavation....legend has it the remaining trams were all chopped up and dumped in them before it was covered over....
Excellent. Must have taken a long time to make this.
Thank you, took about 6 months off and on. Working on the cable car tramway at the moment, 9 months in and just at the end of Victoria Street ;)
Needs more guns and ammo. Is it multi-player?
Hey Stuey. Saw you yesterday and said I’d have s look at this. Very enjoyable. Mary says number 1 is in a museum in Derby? Prolly is.
Cheers Chas, the only survivor is at Crich Transport Museum. Remember, when you get that Ford Pilot on the road … fix the cigarette lighter!
Wonderful! Thank you.
Hi, how very nice and wonderfull is it to have a trip with "my" tram! Thanks a lot!!!: th-cam.com/video/r9K5ZFFZb4g/w-d-xo.html Let´s work! Still will live a 100 years before....Jan
Very interested watch it great video u should do cable pulled tramway from Douglas top of town be great see it
Working on it, tram is made and the line laid but there are a LOT of buildings to do. I get some very strange looks measuring the windows and doors of some of those buildings still standing 👍
Wonderful! Thank you for taking us back in time.....
Lost treasure, how wonderful our island once was. Great video, thank you
Just like turning back the clock.
Excellent, there's a job waiting for you at studio ghibli. Love the colors.
Nice one Stu, Really enjoyed that,
Good work. In 1943, an RAF Anson crashed into the cliffs above Horseleap Viaduct, the burning wreckage landing partly on the viaduct's tram lines.
Thank you, never heard of that before
