5 Month Build in 15 min - 1970 Dodge Challenger
Thank you for watching! We hope you like the video and consider subscribing!
In this video we are working on a 1970 Dodge Challenger that was in desperate need of restoration. We rolled this car in after it had been at a few other shops that had really hacked it up. We stripped the car down, and started on repairs. After spending a lot of time getting rid of the nasty parts of the car and replacing them with new stuff, we got everything fitted up straight. Then came rounds of mud and sanding. There is very little filler on this car, because most of it was sanded off, but we did multiple rounds of it just getting little spots until we couldn’t find any more imperfections. The car was then put into primer one last time before getting 3 coats of plumb crazy purple, and 3 coats of clear.
Cam got started on re-assembly. Putting on all the chrome trim around the windows, as well as the door handles. Next it was time for mirrors. The tail lights really started to make the tail end come together. Then the little chrome trim, and the rear bumper also went on, before the marker lights to finish things off. To get this thing back on the ground it needed wheels. Can’t go wrong with a classic stock look. The front end really stands out. First was the iconic grill, then the headlight pockets, the sealed beam headlights, then the chrome headlight rings, and finally the metal headlight surrounds. The gas filler door was next on the list, and finally the nostril trim for the hood, the hood pin trim, the chrome dodge badging, and the 440 magnum badges too. With the car coming together, it sure would be nice to fire this thing up and see it move under its own power…so next up Cam put the gas tank in and started installing the exhaust. With the car almost ready to go, we couldn’t let it leave the shop without its new white decals
We have another project coming out next week so keep an eye out for that!

Yep yep lots of patience good luck ✝️🇺🇸
I Dont ever remember the pontiac version with a v8 swap only the chevy vega.
Im about to do my 1999.5 any tips or suggestions? What psi did you pump out ?
Cam is like the flux core god
Did it just take one gallon of that single stage urethane to do the whole truck?
For the wheels, I think I would go A G.M pewter metallic
I have done the same thing but with a Toilet plunger And water no well they needed.
What is varsal?
Such a dumb idea wait till you try to fix it . Sun will fade it not worth it . Ask me how I know
Kinda cringed when I saw the trunk and floor wasn't body color, but it looks really nice 😂
Which paint sprayer did you use
goober and gomer, you think maybe if you jacked up the car and tilted the trans back more it would have went in ? it would. back in the 70s and 80s I did quite a few V8 swaps on vegas your gonna have a time putting the trans in after the motors in.
That rattle can job looks good
Gun metal or flat black rims
What psi did you spray the tremclad and clear with?
Do you sand between coats or just spray the next after it dries?
Tractor/implement paint is even cheaper and last ALOT longer. I grew-up with parents who ran a paint and body shop in the middle of Midwest Farm Country, The thing about Tractor/Implement paint is you have to thin it out and no need for a clear coat because most of it is a 1 stage paint. I have the mix I use if you want to know it so you can try it.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I sprayed clear on black primer .. it turned out looking sweet .. then i seen a spot or 2 i needed to redo . U know because black car n stuff right ?? So i had a wt of jet black base coat laying around .. after i had the spot putty ready to paint i just slapped the jet black base coat on those 2spots then recleared the whole car again . When it was done the parts where i sprayed the jet back base coat on those was way shinier than where i had prayed over the primer .. now its all coming off for a redo .. now that i learned from my mistakes .. now im thinking about making racing stripes with black primer and putting jet black base everywhere else .. that should give me some nice ghost racing stripes .
Good luck shoehorning that V8 into that Vega or Pontiac or whatever it is
2 questions: Are the bumpers rusted on? Why not take them off? And why not start with the roof. My fat ass would drag my belly against the doors trying to get to the roof center. Other than that, great job, even if it's not the greatest color in the world...shoulda painted it grabber green!!!!!!!
For my 77 astre with a 400 sbc, i used monza v8 mount plates and manifolds. Also a short water pump and single belt pulleys and alternator bracket from mid sixties chevy with a flex fan and no spacer. Cleared the rad by about an inch. Reworked the rad support slightly to fit a nova rad. Also needed the tailstock from the vega trans for the diff's torque arm. Tailstock bolted right up to shorty th350.
I'm trying to do the same with a 92 AWD Caravan, lost the AWD, and I have an '02 Dodge Ram with a 4.7L Magnum V8 and 4WD just sitting here. Any pointers you guys can offer on your build?
Sure can tell you guys are from the great white north so let's take off to the great white north
WARNING MUST BE WATCHED MUTED BECAUSE OF INAPPROPRIATE MIND NUMBING VOMIT INDUCING BACKGROUND MUSIC. What is wrong with you people who need your feeble minds constantly inundated with this Tweedledee Tweedledum Ga Ga Pooh background music?
A good just came up in marketplace for this with the chrome for $75 in Hilton NY
Too much music.
Interesting, 4.7 mounts almost direct bolt in l s
It just as hard to pint a car with sh1+ paint. ( maybe harder) I don't get why the hell would you do it? What a giant waste of my time.
2:10 bro has the voice of a grandfather 😂
LOOKS GREAT. NOW YOU CAN REBUILD THE ENGINE , BURNING OIL .😮
I just bought an 01 all white ram sport I wanna turn into a rumble bee clone-ish
A gallon of tractor paint is around $50, why not just use that?
Should be able to do this. If Yenko got in trouble with the Feds for dropping in a 454 Chevy Big Block in a Vega...
Ya, we have been collecting parts to make things clear properly. Hope to have a new vid out in a few weeks on this car!
The engine in the field you pulled out with the tractor. Did it "run when you parked it there"? 🤣🤣🤣
It's what hot rods are about. Doing what can't be done and you two are doing it. Bolt the trans together to the engine. Weld up some mounts that Amazon mounts can bolt between. Look for some big brakes that go into the front end by any means easiest. This old car will be so much fun to drive that, if you don't want to risk driving it you'll be able to sell it at a premium since there's always someone who can take the vision at least one step further forward or just drive the wheels off it? I'm sure you'll find 350's are physically the same size. once you succeed it will be a walk in the park to drop a hot 400 in there. SBC. Use the old mans car for ideas how to get it done! Talk with him and ask to look over his car with your camera in hand. 7 months now so bring back the Vega!
Thanks for such a great comment! And you are right we need to bring this car back! We've been gathering parts and planning on when and wjatywe are going to do to it. So we hope to have a new video out on this car in a few weeks. After the holidays I think it will be our next project!
Looking forward to that.
Does Cam want to fix the rockers in my flex?
Lol this didn't inspire you to do it yourself? Haha
Judging the bodywork. Good thing he didn't go black
This car came out excellent. The flat black hood and slot mags make it scream 60's muscle. If you don't mind my asking, was the clearcoat also rustoleum? Also did you sand and polish it after the clear or did it actually come out that nice? Considering doing my car the same way and the same color actually. Great video, great car.
Thank you very much! The clearcoat was called Evercoat, and Jo it wasn't sanded and polished. It actually came out that nice, other than the bug on the roof. But I think Cam already sanded and polished that out.
@@RustedRides Thanks bro. I'll be looking for the same paint now and watch the vid again to do it like you guys did. Keep up the great work.
Well maintained!
To take this car over the top, you need a slight hood scoop and polish the rims. Nice car!
Thank you! Might just have to do that next time we dig into this one! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Hi Kate 😊
🤘
Awesome work guys! I have an 05 Neon that's gonna get the tremclad treatment.
Nice! Let us know how it goes!
What does the varsol do to help with the scotchbrite pad ?👍🇨🇦
Tinfoil trick works great 👍
It does! You've done it too?
@RustedRides a friend of mine was dating a girl back in the 1990s who had a 1973 charger and that's how she painted her engine and engine compartment. I have used it on occasion when attempting to make something look nicer but nothing I own is too nice 😉😁😁😁
Pro tip from a pro painter!
Thank you!
Show
Very cool!
Thanks!
Great job boys. I was a dealership line mechanic and avid 1/4 mile junkie engine builder when this ca was new. The Comet Callientys were hot little riggs. 80 yr old Dandahermit.
Thank you! It would have been cool to see the drag strip with all the cars of that era. No launch control, or computers, just racing
You can use that food wrapping plastic that sticks to itself in a pinch also ..
