    The whole thing about a special on ground beef in English when Denji is holding the thug hostage had me dying, so what did the Japanese version say? If it was also dope as hell, 10/10

    Dude what if you also watched the English dub and then rated how well the translation was done in relation to Japanese? When there's a reference to Japanese culture, how well did they do in making it relatable to English speakers?

    • @toki_madoushi
      @toki_madoushi หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought about that and I'm sure there'd be an audience for that since there's even more stuff lost when making a dub, but unfortunately I just couldn't push myself to watch complete episodes of anime in EN dub after having only watched them with JP voices for almost two decades.

    My man, I've wanted this content for as long as I've watched anime. Always wondered how sub/dub can sometimes be so different, what jokes I'm missing, how translators attempted to convey ideas, etc. Please keep it up 🥺 spare no detail (in English, this means please don't (just kidding in sure you understand 😂))

    just a heads up, that space on the pole in 1:31 is for neighbourhood names or 大字. there's also actually no 大字 called 坂東 in the kanto region, even more so in Bando City. furthermore Bando City only recently changed its name from Iwai after a merger, deriving the change to Bando as a tribute to the former name of the kanto region. from what i can see online, Yamada999"s real life setting isnt set in stone so i assume the bando shown in the anime is fictitious in nature. i've personally not seen the anime but based on what i can see in clips, its seems to be just modeled after urban tokyo or its surrounding suburbs. in my opinion, bando city is too rural to be having the landscape shown in the anime

    I too noticed the "yoiko" so I Googled and got a manga! Didn't look further but thanks to this I now know the manga title means "good boy/girl" and makes perfect sense in both places.

    面白かったです! 重箱の隅を突くようで申し訳ないですが,「自給自足」(3:35~)の「足」が持つ意味は“leg”ではなくて“suffice”だと思います。つまり,逐次的な翻訳をすると,“earning your own salary that suffice yourself”みたいな感じになるかなと。

    I want to preface this by saying that I've read the novels and I don't think this is anything that I would consider spoilers but keep that in mind. From what I remember (I'm not sure on this one) but Princess Ariel and by extension her bodyguards are not special students so they will not show up in this mandatory once a month class for special students. Silent here refers to another character that was shown briefly in the first season.

    • @toki_madoushi
      @toki_madoushi ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess that I completely misread the situation with both characters having a translation of "Silent" in the subs. But by looking at it again it's true that for "Silent Fitz", the original Japanese name is with「無言」(mugon) : "without words". And the character spoken about in the classroom is directly the Japanese pronunciation of "Silent"「サイレント」(sairento). Thanks for pointing that out!

    • @Looke116
      @Looke116 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah I thought of that as well and forgot to mention it. Either way, I'm glad to see that you're still making videos I really enjoyed that you explained things that are context specific or words that have their meanings/origins from some historical/cultural event, things like these that don't exactly pop up in your usual vocab Anki deck. Anyway putting thoughts into words is hard TL;DR really enjoyed your content keep it up if you feel like it.

    I also thought that Ai's name meant love, but it wasn't until I read the manga in Japanese and saw her name written side by side with the word Idol that I realized it was also a play of words. Ai's name uses the katakana A-I, while idol uses the Katakana A-I-DO-RU. So it might be another way in which the author was trying to show that Ai was the definitive idol or something like that.

    Interresting the explanation on the names of the characters... Especially Aquamarine. As a reincarnator still fan of his now mother, his name can be seen as a symbol of a strong love persisting through the eternal sea of time with reincarnation. Very meaningful name indeed.

    Thanks for covering this serie! Onimai turned out to be a really wholesome anime, fanservice was recurrent, but it had a good character development and a sweet Mahiro-Mihari interaction throughout the season. Really enjoyable story with great animation, soft colour palette, jokes and cuteness. Also, isn't the location of this episode the Ginza Onsen, or at least, heavily inspired on it?
