Replacing the input jack on a Squier/Fender practice amp

Replacing the input jack on a Squier/Fender practice amp
I just picked up one of these with a nice wine red finish. The head stock on mine is larger like a open flower.I really like mine,it's made in Korea still has the sticker and sounds bad ass.
NOBODY CARES WHAT KIND OF box cutter Rabindranath is WIELDING. Ah Ha ha Reeeeeeeee PENT 😊😊😊😊😊 Nothing "settles in" over time. WE just get accustupidomed to it. Baked treats can be delicious, no ???? Help sumwun...... Is anyone OUT there ALIVE ? All apologies, AND "UourWelcum". IT'S NOT OVER !!!!!! Eat things that USED to be living. You're WORTH it ??????
I have a white one, that I purchased new, around 91 or 92. I got it and a 10 watt Crate amp for $200. I still have it, although I gave it to my son, who plays it. I know it's a cheap guitar, but it was perfect for me at the time.
I got mine for $97 on sale. Baby blue. It has a bad buzz due to a Grounding issue somewhere but after shielding the pickup cavities, running grounding wires and shielding the control cavity, now it is dead silent. I also re soldered my Jack just to be safe. The setup was great and fret ends felt nice and the fretboard was rounded. 🤷♂️ my fretboard was a nice dark Purple Heart. Seems like yours is laurel or pao ferro?
Could you do a more in depth explanation of how you replaced the jack? I have the same bass but in grey and I have to replace the jack but don’t know how to do it
You have to use a soldering iron and remove the wires at the old jack the resolder the wires onto the new jack. It's not that hard but does require a few tools.
Can you get me one of these?????
How do you call grote???
Where you buy???? I want natural with trapeze tailpiece.
They're available on Amazon, if it's currently out of stock check again in a week or 2.
Beautiful playing!
I picked one up at guitar center and I found it be fine
Got mine no problems yet did you play the grey one
Thanks for all the help! Great video.
Killer guitar. Seriously. I had the shell pink. So you installed hipshot lockers? Why wrap the strings around the tuners? 🤔
Is it worth buying the guitar ? I am thinking of getting the shell pink as well and maybe update with EMGs and Gotoh.
Thanks, are the pickups microphonic?
I have to try this. I have a beauiful Classic Vibe 60s Custom Telecaster that has upgraded hardware, including bridge, electronics, switch and pickups. It plays and sound great... but it is noisy. I have have been told by two luthiers that the noise is normal for single coils, but I have quite a few other single coil guitars, including an American Standard Telecaster and they're not noisy. I really love this guitar but the electrical noise really ruins the experience for me. If I touchthe bridge plate the sound stops. Touching the strings help but there is still a bit of noise. But otherwise there is that constunt hum or however you describe it.
I have seen some Tele pickups (especially hot ones) that are prone to noise, but a hum that stops when you ground the bridge with your hand tends to be something with the grounding. I would check or even re-solder the grounds. Good luck!
Nice
great job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i would get a little file and groove that dude deeper in the saddle
It sucks because they look so cool
New ones have a shorter saddle - and if you're good with a rat tail or nut slotting file you could make the slot in the saddle deeper to get the action down if you find one of the first ones cheap...
Looks like QC issue, will definitely evaluate if I decide to get one, thanks for the heads up!
WauwWauhWahuWauWAuuWauhWauu
YES! I’ve replaced these input jacks soooo many times only to have them fail again in a year. Just tried this on a Frontman 25R, and it works like a charm. You rock!
That’s awesome we had a 1/4 eclipse in Orlando ☀️
Un solo muy epico! 💥🤘
First like 🥳
What type of wire did you use? I'm having trouble finding wiring to connect the input to the circuit board.
Any 20 to 24 gauge wire will work, you can get some at an auto parts shop or maybe a car stereo place might give you a couple of inches for free if you ask them if they have any and explain what you're doing. Good luck!
great work dude! I need to get this donde to mine.
Great video. Out of interest why didn't you copper tape the cavity while you had it open? I see another of people doing this.
Active pickups don't have the interference problems inherent in passive pickups, so I didn't really think it was necessary.
If you’re particularly paranoid about it, you’re better off using shielding paint. I used to have an LTD Snakebyte and even though it had active electronics, the cavities had shielding paint (no pick guards), but active pickups are already pretty well shielded. Lace pickups are even quieter and require no additional shielding on the guitar.
What did it sound like or what was it doing before you fixed it ? I wished you'd filmed it as a reference for the noobs like me 😂
It would make loud static noises if the cord moved even a little bit, and sometimes you would plug in and it wouldn't output any sound until you jiggled the cord
@@pawnshopguitarguy thanks 👍 my fender 15r is just constant static in overdrive dropouts on the clean channel. Thanks for posting your video it's going to be beneficial to saving my cheaply bought amp but i wished i offered the guy I bought it from $10 for it instead of $20 'a slight crackling noise' he said. Thanks once again from Australia 🦘
Why my cv when i turn up volume or i lower my volume my guitar get noisy sound
That sounds like there is dirt caught in the volume pot, get some Deoxit or other Electronics cleaner and flush it out.
For me; 125.00 from GC, one slightly high fret (13) to level and sharp fret edges to polish up (no fret sprout) . Raised the pickups. The neck was spot on, I found no ground issues and the pickups sound great to me. I have an advantage over other beginners in that I can do the setup myself. Overall I really like this guitar. A setup would have run 100.00 if I had taken it to a good shop, so at 225.00 in my opinion it is still a good deal.
Get an ultrasonic bath, cleans up hardware and strings easy, couple of vids on my channel
Got this guitar delivered today. Pretty well set up right out of the box. Plays well and all it really needs is a little fret polishing and light sanding on the ends and it's ready to go. I'm just wondering how you get the screw driver in to adjust the bridge for the middle strings if I need to fix the intonation. Seems like you did the low E and that was pretty easy to reach. Ideas?
Use a small screwdriver and even loosen up the string some so it can be moved out of the way while you adjust the screw if needed.
I have one of those new relic'd FFST's and it's phenomenal for the money! It actually has one of the best playing necks I've ever played. It did have a couple flaws such as the output jack had to be screwed in further and the tuners were the worst I've seen in a while but I can't believe how level all the frets are! I pay to get my guitars plek'd and it's just as good as those as far as having low action with no problems!
Their customer service never responds if you have a problem. Buy at your own risk.
That's good information to know...
What do you want for $160??? Smh.
1 replacement locking tuner that was broken out of the box. And a reply to my email.
Intonation, set the neck straght, polish the frets, put Ernie Ball 010's , and it rocks!
how are the stock pickups compared to the EMGs?
I wasn't impressed with them, that's why I swapped in the EMGs.
@@pawnshopguitarguy i think i’m actually going to go with a harley benton st20 active or sc1000
They should be good enough as long as your amp and speaker are good. Honestly with all the effects used in that demo no one is gonna be able to tell the difference between them. I’ve never had to change my pickups to get good tone. Learning how to dial your amp will do worlds more to change your tone than a pickup swap will. Only reason to change any electrical components is if they’re producing a ton of noise. Hoping this saves you a few hundred bucks. Rock on!
I don’t know if you’ll see this comment but I have the same guitar shown in the video and I can’t stop it from buzzing, I already tried adjusting the trust rod.
It depends on where it's buzzing, does raising the string height help any? If it buzzes on an open string then there is most likely a problem at the nut.
@@pawnshopguitarguy it buzzes when I pluck a string, also when I play a fret.
If you ran through the entire setup and it still buzzes the slots in the nut are probably cut too deep. They can be built back up with baking soda and Superglue but you would need nut slotting files to shape the slots correctly if it's only couple of them but if it's all the strings you can pop the nut off and place a small slice of wood under it and glue it back down to add the little bit of height back. @@IrlPunker
@@pawnshopguitarguy thank you !
thank you was very help full...short video staright to the point cheers ..have one question please.... when u check string height at 12 fret do you still have the capo on the first fret or there is no capo ....much appreciated
Thanks for the kind words! No capo is needed for checking the string height.
thank you for your time...great help@@pawnshopguitarguy
thank you for your time great help@@pawnshopguitarguy
Prob cut the neck pocket too deep - shim the neck. Guitars 101.
It's a one piece (neck through) instrument and that would put the other 3 strings out of adjustment if it was a bolt on neck. The saddle needed to be filed down, I just didn't want to charge someone to "repair" A brand new instrument so I suggested they return it to the store they purchased it from.
irritating!
Dean basses are perfect for a few metal and punk sub genres: Crust, Ska-core, D Beat, Street Punk, Djent, Meatalcore, Black Metal and Deathcore
Did you need to do any fret ends?
No, they were pretty well finished.
Nice job, and great looking guitar, especilly for the very low price.
Just picked one up on clearance at my Local GC for $350 out the door and the action is as low as my sadowsky and Lakland basses.
They did use different pickups I have one with 3 adjustable screws on the pickups
Thanks great video. I put 9-42's strings.
Can grab one of these for $350 in pretty good shape. Curious what you paid for this one and if you think that's a good deal. Seems like it to me. Great video, thanks!
That sounds like a great price, I paid $500 for this one.
@@pawnshopguitarguy thanks! Super pumped! 🙌
If I just got mine today how long should I wait to make adjustments to the truss rod?
24 hours is plenty of time for it to adjust to your environment. It may change over the first couple of months, but just give it a quick check every now and again. Enjoy it!
@@pawnshopguitarguy okay. Yes I adjusted alil just getting dead notes on the 12th to 24th n buzzing on the 1 to 11
Sounds like it's too flat and may have a couple of high frets. Add a little space to the neck relief and check the string height. You may have to have slightly higher action if you can't get it to quit buzzing. @@EyesOpen369
@@pawnshopguitarguy i got it low and no buzz but when it's not plugged in the higher frets sound dull. Thanks for the advice.
Can you run this through the spark 40?
Theoretically you could but I don't think it would be practical. It leans more towards being a PC/Mac interface for recording.
Dang it, I was only tuning the bottom part and the Allen wrench doesn’t work on it anymore because I burned it out 😢so now it’s like an inch off the board
is it the screw or the allen wrench that's stripped? if it's the screw you may have to take it to a guitar tech, sorry to say...
It’s the Allen wrench part, when I try to turn it it’s not turning anymore
Screw itself is burned out I mean, the Allen wrench isn’t turning it anymore
That would require some sort of screw extraction, they make reverse drill bits and small screw extractors that will remove the stripped screw@@raykai_1348
