I like how the lighting and the photography in the PJ movies simply show us that the elves are magical beings, you can feel this mystical aura whenever an elf is shown on screen, RoP really just made them humans with pointy ears

Eowyn was never saved by a man, and in fact fought against one of Middle Earths greatest enemies in defense of a man. And won, btw. Arwen was never saved by a man, and in fact fought against 9 of Middle Earth greatest enemies in defense of a man, and came out with just a scratch. The women in the Original trilogy never served men, and men (i.e. the heros, not men like Wormtongue) clearly viewed them as their equals.

I think it is so sad, that everything have to be changed now and politcalised. I am white and have blue eyes and would never invent a film of Pocahontas for example with blond hair and blue eyes. This for sure would be seen as racism. But when books are changed and originally white people have to look black, than I have to see this as modern and rightful. I dont find the sense in this. Why we can't stick with the original? So happy that Jackson only had this in mind and no wokeness-virus!!

The reason they fucked up the elves so bad is because they are the main focus of the show, and no one is going to watch hours upon hours of people talking and acting the way they did in the PJ movies. That is no criticism on LotR, the elves were perfect in those movies, it just doesn't work for a TV show. Where the problem lies is that the elves in LotR were so perfect and accurate that there's really no other way to portray them in this universe anymore.... so why the fuck did they decide to have elves be the whole focus of this show????

If I see an African story without white people, I don't think "great story, but I'm not represented". The stories of Tolkies are based on European lore. Why would you expect people from other continents in the stories? This is why I never watched any of the Amazon series. They also ruined the story of the "Wheel of time" books. Horrible.

I have mixed fillings about what they said. Because the show is shitty not because the colour elf and female characters who stand strong and command but because they did that in a shitty way. I agree about the importance of representative figures in ficcion. You can recognize yourself in the actions of the characters even when you do not share their physical aspect but we can argue that the lack of diversity in a population that habits in a rather extensive territory falls behind reality and I could salute a bigger variety in the representation of the charecters as an expansion of what Tolkien wrote and described. All that goes right into the trash when you don't take care of the most important part of Tolkien's work, narrative, epic stories, lovable characters, etc, etc. So, no matter their aspect this characters would be pretty much forgettable.

The ROP elves pretty much all look like the actors would work better as hobbits. Their features are more rodent-like when they should've cast the most Final Fantasy-esque looking people they could find

I have seen the movies 3-4 times, with friends, with family, with my son, and alone... i have never watched the showz nor do i intend to. People feel the egotistical need to be represented in a story that is not about them, it is not about 1 person, or 1 community, is about values, courage, loyalty, friendship... not gay people or black people. It is a shame, and i will not be there for it.
