United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ก.ย. 2012
‘OO’ Scale Model Railways
Helm's Deep Model Railway features a DCC controlled 'OO' scale railway, the layout is approximately 17ft 6ins long, by 7.5 feet wide (large section) and 5.5 feet wide (smaller section) The layout is made up of two MDF boards connected together by bridge sections and rests on two trestles approximately 3 feet high. Scenery and detail have yet to be added since the layout has just been erected from five years of storage and is now installed in a purpose built room. The layout does feature fully interlocked three aspect colour light signalling together with position light shunt signals which are also fully interlocked. DCC Concepts Cobalt point motors are employed together with points and signal lever controls via a DCC Concepts lever frame. Train detection is in addition incorporated (track circuits) via the use of more than 80 infrared detection points supplied by Heathcote Electronics. Over 600 12volt DPDT miniature relays are employed to operate this layout.

Hornby Coronation Coaches
Hornby’s recent release of their LNER Coronation coach set comprising of four twin coach packs (eight coaches) plus an observation coach.
Hauling this rake is a Dapol ‘Black Label’ LNER A4 locomotive ‘Mallard’ (purchased several years ago)
All of the nine Coronation coaches come with internal lighting plus the observation coach is fitted with rear red tail lamps.
The internal decoration within these coaches is of an extremely high level of detail (especially the layout within the observation coach)
The Dapol A4 comes ready fitted with DCC sound, synchronised smoke, firebox flicker and illuminated front lamps.
All in all this is an extremely good looking train, well done Hornby and Dapol.

Is there any way that you can tap into the circuit board get the fan working or change the fan so that it becomes a working one?
@@chrisuddin9760 Hello Chris Not without carrying out major surgery to the model
They look amazing in a full rake like that . ...........Peter
Thanks for these ....truly amazing......takes me right back.
Omg...can't believe I spotted this. Worked in this box 1976 to 1977 as a box boy. Some real characters in here. Jim Wise, Stan Collingwood, Eddie Cook and Brian. Happy days. Johnny Waghorn I'm sure was working in balham box at the time. Amazing to see it again.
Very nice. I am waiting for mine :(
@@modelrailwaynoob you will not be disappointed
What an amazing model and I’m a modern image modeller !!! Excellent sound quality Which make of speakers have they used ? 10 out of 10 for detail and sound 👍😀
@@paulsimpson1423 Hello Paul, Thank you for your comment. The speakers installed within these class 25’s I’m betting are the same design installed within the earlier class 24’s Unfortunately I can’t send you an image of these speakers because there is no facility to do so within these comments, however I am putting a link on here to another TH-cam video of someone working inside a SLW class 24! I’ve never seen this type of speaker before, and there are two of these installed within these models, I will say, the sound quality of these speakers is quite superb!! th-cam.com/video/qNj2zR66AjU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vPbiqrcPk4h16kAI
It does look a little odd but that's probably because we are used to seeing A4's , was there two of these once running ? Nice addition to your layout .
@@ChapelEndJunctionUK Hello! Yes, only two examples were streamlined. If you look carefully during the video, you will see a second locomotive stationary in the station pointing in the opposite direction
Certainly is a great looking 25 with a good sound to go with it .
This is the best class 25 I’ve seen to date, exceptional detailing on a superb model, the lack of a motorised roof is the only missing piece of the amazing puzzle, I’m a big fan of this feature because it adds that special attention to detail, thanks for sharing.
I received a Bachmann class 25 last week, one of their SFX versions with working roof fan and tinted windows, a beautiful model, however it is very difficult to see the rotating fan working because of the large grills covering the fan itself, I must admit I was a little disappointed by not being able to easily see the fan rotating.
Hi Tony, another lovely loc for your collection I see. It does sound really good I must admit. Hope you and the family are well. I see Hornby are getting a lot of bad press recently, I cant say much as they dont touch N gauge. Do you think they deserve the bad press, from what I read they so. Regards Chris
Hello Chris So good to hear from you again. My main criticism with Hornby is their inconsistency, especially with regard to quality control.
How big is the table for your layout
Hello James My layout is approximately 17ft 6ins long and 6ft wide at the widest point.
Thank you Tony for the reply
How big is your table as in the length and width
Very nice and great train
How can I control my absolute aspects colour light signals using the ESU ecos 50210 command station? Thanks
Hello I control my 3-aspect colour light signals from my ECOS command station using DCC Concepts accessory decoders and 12 volt DPDT relays.
And when are people going to learn DCC is a total rip off and utterly useless its a money making scam
Hello, lovely video to watch. Just wondering what your opinion is on using or not using cork underlay. Cheers Rich
Hello Richard Good question, I began my model railway journey back in 2004, originally this layout was erected within the extension at the back of my home and because this space had to be shared with ordinary home use my layout was designed to be lifted up from the floor (in two sections) and stored upright when not in use. Unfortunately for me when I built this layout I paid no attention to placing the track on a bed of cork. I do wish now I had done so and the reasoning as to not doing it now is because I have employed DCC Concepts Cobalt point motors (all situated beneath my layout) In total I have 32 point-ends on my layout, and as a result, each of the points control arms have already been cut down in size, so if I wanted to now retrofit a cork bed beneath the track I would have to purchase replacement point control arms from DCC Concepts which would quite expensive. I really do wish that I had used a cork track bed in the first place.
Hi there Tony, lovely Loco, I finally decided to get one❤, love it, regards Elizabeth
Any sign of a fan drive for the chuff effect or is it solely the piezo disc being turned on/off by the circuit board and hall sensor?
Hello! No fan to be seen in this set up, so my guess is the ‘hall’ sensor switching the heating device!
@@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc Thanks for that Tony, hmm semi-sealed unit with only one way for the vapour to go. Thanks, that's answered a big question.
In the pre-war days of the Southern Railway i believe they were four-car sets . . .
Cv 211 and cv 212 set steam volume for chuff and idle. F24 turns the atomiser on and off separately to sound.
Thank you for this information it’s much appreciated
Excellent information
@@SimonLivertonCentral Hello Simon Someone has kindly corrected me and informed me the metal device is an atomiser, I’m not sure what the difference is between an atomiser and a heating element without googling it, however I’m still glad that people do comment and by doing so we all learn by this!
I find TH-cam an excellent learning tools, as long as the Trolls keep away. Being at the beginning of my layout build I am learning all of the time.
I'm barely getting a "wisp" of vapour from my P2. My loco also started to "screech" badly after about 30 minutes of use - but after lubrication, this stopped. My other concern was the decoder cannot be read by my ECoS system. Trying to read the decoder causes the ECoS to "short out" - so the only way to address the loco was either via the App or by another DCC Controller (luckily, I have a Gaugemaster Prodigy 2 as spare - so I used this. I recently fitted a TXS HM7000 sound decoder into a Hornby diesel locomotive and that was a nightmare! My ECoS (again) couldn't read the decoder and control could only be via the App (it wouldn't toggle between DCC and Bluetooth. Luckily - following an email to Hornby Technical Services who advised of a decoder reset and a CV change this remedied the issue, but In future I think I'll be sticking to Bachmann!
I have the same loco, have just complained to Hornby about it. Have a look at the last two videos I put on TH-cam showing mine.
Hello Simon Having viewed your video, I think I will return my Prince Of Wales to the retailer, mine does not produce steam anything like yours, I believe the steam generator might be faulty.
@@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc I sent my videos to Hornby after ringing them. So far they have no idea what to do
Hi again Tony, I have been independently told if you press F24 it will switch the smoke on and off. I have not tried this yet but it may be worth you trying it.
Hello again Simon Having just tried F24 I have discovered that whilst this function is activated (turned ON) the steam generator STOPS working. So whoever told you about F24 is quite right, however F24 works in reverse of what you might expect (F24 turned OFF, steam generator functions, F24 ON, steam generator deactivated)
What is annoying is I asked Honby at the very beginning if there was a way of switching the generator off and on, they said no. Shows how much knowledge they have about their products. I’m pleased your generator is working now.
My BM Class 37 D6829 deluxe turned up today from RALLS - looks stunning with a light weathering - after the massive disapointment with my AS Class 37 (refunded) I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Great locomotive- great set up. Couldn’t help but notice the sand pipe bent back on its self at the end after passing a fish plate and clicking against the sleepers?..
Same model as mine - expect mine selected to go silent, seemed a shame since I'd paid all that extra for sound -returned and refunded.
Has it packed up yet ? Lovely models just lots of possible issues....
Hello Michael Since I reduced the sound level on both of my Accurascale class 37’s using CV63 value 150, I’ve had no further problems whatsoever.
Cool, do not think I have seen all four of the Boosters in one place before. The sound chip really makes these models something great!
I have both but prefer the Bachmann version because it has a better selection of sounds and to me just looks better. Great video. Cheers Pete
I’ve been waiting years to get my hands on a centre headcode version of a class 37. I missed out on Bachmann’s previous release of this. I do believe that Accurascale are to release a centre headcode version in their next batch.
hi, great video, these were great locos, remember 20002 and 20003 as a child !
Hello Peter Fingers crossed that EFE might model 20003 too, a little re-tooling will be needed because the front-ends of this loco looked more like the front of a 4-sub

Love the sound of the compressor running at the end, really nostalgic! Did I spy the black version lurking in the background?
Hi Neil Yes I bought 4 versions Southern Railway photographic Grey Southern Railway Malachite Green BR Black BR Green I stayed away from the corporate BR Blue version Geoff and I were only talking about these a couple of years ago, he remembers them, they were withdrawn in 1969, one year before I started on BR The Grey version is lurking by the station footbridge, the BR green version is still boxed up because one of the 4 sound decoders I purchased was faulty and has been returned for a replacement
Liked your video of A3 number 45. Ordered today and got it for £151.79 with double reward points of £45.54. A nett figure of £106.15, a bargain.
Hello Kenneth If you intend to convert this locomotive to DCC, be careful to test the integrity of the 8-pin DCC socket in the tender first. please view my video regarding ‘Edward Thompson’ I have posted because I destroyed 2 decoders before discovering the 8-pin decoder socket had been wired the wrong way round at the factory.
@@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc Thanks for that very useful information. I will watch your other video. Hoping to fit a HM7000, so do not want to destroy it
I am very tempted now to get this one in the sale
@@oaktrainstoysreviews at £106 it is the “real deal”
I missed out on purchasing this model that said I have other Accurascale Class 37. I noticed your turntable and wondered if you were aware of Scenic3D turntable surround as used on "Grandad's Train Room" #20 video.
Really glad your happy with them Tony, they do look nice and sound great. I guess waiting 10 minutes for it to warm is a small price to pay for such detail. Regards Chris
Hello Chris, once again it’s so nice hearing from you, I hope you’re okay? Just a quick reply to you Chris regarding my two Accurascale class 37’s I now have two of them in my collection, including a replacement model for a faulty one (the ‘stay-alive’ feature wasn’t working) Looking through TH-cam I’ve noticed other people on here reporting the ‘sound dropping out’, I’ve been successful in overcoming this problem by changing CV63 (sound volume) and reducing the sound volume to no more the 150 (the default setting was 192 which is way too high) Doing this will resolve the issue of sound dropping out and stopping.
Just bought one these great model😊😊
They’re really nice I’ve just bought one without sound they had run out
Hello Phantom I now have two sound fitted Accurascale class 37’s both BR Green. I have found I now have quite a serious problem with both of them. Whilst running them, the sound keeps cutting out and stopping, the only way I can get the sound back on again is to tip the locomotive slightly on one side until all the wheels on one side of the track are off the rails then wait for the stay-alive to run down. Once the stay-alive has completely run down and the locomotive is powered down, I return all of the wheels to the track, the sound once again returns, then a few moments later the same thing happens again and continues to do so until the locomotive has finally warmed up! This is extremely annoying, I’m reluctant to inform Accurascale about this fault because I believe Accurascale will simply suggest the locomotives be returned to them for a possible replacement, which I don’t believe will happen due to lack of availability. I would be really interested to know if this fault is just on my two locomotives or are there many more people with the same problem?
Hello Tony, New back to the hobby. Got a few Bachmann sound locomotives. All great models. All amazing great smooth runners. Sadly both 37's are quite noisy (groaning and moaning noise from motors) gets really bad when more speed applied and with load (pulling 5 coaches) and on bends. Obviously with sound on not as noticeable. Sound isn't as nice as yours as both distort with vibrations through the body. One is worse than the other. If you press down and hold the sides (while on speed lock f7) it's OK. Hoping to be able to reduce the volume, to see if that helps. As I only have a basic controller at the moment. Will have to wait. Any suggestions to help me. Its such a shame as they are my favourite locos. Some have suggested a better speaker ! But don't think this is necessary. Cheers Mike
Hello Michael Regarding your own class 37’s all I can suggest is for you to check to see if the bogie gear towers/drive shafts and the wheel bearings need lubricating. Regarding distorted sounds, all I can suggest is perhaps lowering the sound volume a little and looking to see that the speaker is properly secured with no nearby wiring touching the speaker enclosure.
@@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc thanks Tony, sorry for late reply. Mike
Hi Quick question did you alter the dcc switches on your loco before use this would mean removing the sound decoder to get at the switches as it tells you on the card to make sure the switches are set as the card for dcc sound or did you run it straight out the box.I contacted Accurascale if you needed to adjust these switches on dcc fitted there saying they should have been set in the factory when fitting the decoder thanks for any info in advance
Hello Andrew Thank you for your question No, I’ve not yet lifted the removable roof panel or made any alterations to this locomotive apart from reassigning its decoder addressing.
Hi Tony I have spoke to accurascsale regarding the read this card before use regarding the switches I asked them if we needed to take the sound decoder and set the switches for dcc sound They said you don't need to do this as they should have been set at the factory before the decoders were fitted just thought I would let you know as some people have taken the decoder out and set the switches but then couldn't get there lights working
Superb loco with sound and awesome layout
Excellent! I have Cossack with small yellow panels to which I have fitted a Zimo decoder with Youchoos sound. Love it! I used to watch theses locos when I was a transpotting lad at Exeter.
Gota be honest, Bachmann version is a very fine model but Accurascale tops it.
Hello formidable38 I currently have two Accurascale class 37’s on preorder, these being BR Green versions. I’m so looking forward to receiving these too. I must say, the Bachmann versions with their operating roof fans are a really nice touch though.
Nice layout
My Bradley Manor runs well at slow speed. I have this in the video in my feed. Beautiful loco.
😮I've had the split headcode loco for about 6 weeks didn't know the fan worked!!!!
Hello Dominic Only the SFX versions have working fans.
Hi Tony - My goodness mate how many locos have you now got in your collection especially as you have two more on preorder. Your going to need another building to display your fantastic collection. Must admit they both look lovely and the sounds are great. Cannot remember when I last purchased a Steam Locomotive, Think it was September 2022. Regards Chris
Hello Chris- I hope your doing okay? Once I receive the two Accurascale class 37’s, my fleet will consist of six class 37’s in total. Two of which are the 2015 Bachmann’s, both split headcode variants, one in plain green, the other has a small yellow warning panel. Then there are these two ‘new tooled’ versions I received recently, one of these is once again a plain green version with split headcodes, the second is a centre headcode variant with small yellow warning panels. The two Accurascale class 37’s on preorder are another centre headcode version with a small yellow warning panel, and a split headcode variant with a small yellow warning panel. I must confess I really do adore the class 37, it’s such a beautiful looking machine. Thankfully, some 37’s are still running around on the network, which is simply wonderful. The last 37 I saw running past my signalling centre was about two years ago in a dark maroon livery, it looked and sounded absolutely fantastic, and is a testament to the durability of these machines.
