Although it was true Apache created a thread per connection 15 years ago, since 2.4 released in 2012 there has been more support for MPM (Multi Processing Modules) for load balancing mechanisms, reverse proxy, and other improvements, see timeline below.

Before I get React fanboys hating I have to say SPAs are nice if used in the right context, however, many bring these massive frameworks for a website that is closer to a static site or basic CRUD app than anything requiring so much Javascript and complexity. If all you have to do is click submit on a form, or open a modal, you don't need a framework, you either write it yourself in Javascript,...

I use windows 11 on an I914900KF/RTX4090/128Go DDR5 and it's working fine. What's the matter with Microsoft ? I've tried Manjaro linux and Ubuntu and this is not working better from what I've seen.

Linux is better except in running windows programs. If wine could run dot NET 6, latest MSO, Adobe, games and so on all on gold level then much more users would switch. Because at the end of day it's incompatibility with windows programs that prevents many users from switching. And for many of them LO or Gimp isn't the solution. So in that sense I even kinda feel sorry for all those who have poured a ton of effort in making linux UI more user friendly. Personally I have never considered any linux UI not to be user friendly so that's not the problem that needed fixing. If all that same effort was put in Wine instead then I'd guess there would be even conversions from windows to linux than all the UI improvements combined could ever achieve.

Buying/Installing a floppy drive in 2004? Really?? Linux was booting off CD's well before Microsoft came to the party bud. I was installing Redhad and Caldera in the late 90's via CD with minimal effort. The Pacman game embedded in the installer of Caldera is still one of the best memories EVER to installing any operating system. :)

    >not needing to open a terminal Thats the problem with you noobs, you boneheads are scared of terminals. Its not hard to use a goddamn terminal, and its not hard to install packages through them. Oh wait you use Fedora, yeah noob level linux users only use distros that hold their hand like Microshit does.

Bruh I literally switched to Linux yesterday because neither of my machines meet the "minimal requirements" to upgrade to newer Windows versions, despite still being able to play modern games, and there hasn't been a "great" Windows since 7. I *could* invest in a whole new system that can run 11... but why would I want to? This is 2024, nobody has money. 😂 I wanna keep using my hardware if it's still usable. Especially when they'll inevitably end support for Windows 11 in 3 years to make way for 12. So what's the point of even trying to keep up with Windows these days? I found myself thinking, "Huh... I can't be the only one who's come to this conclusion, right? What if this is the time for Linux to take off?" And now I see this video. 😂

TH-cam is full of these videos, however, as an IT pro, Linux still isn’t there. Sure if you are a student or simply need a machine for doing your banking then fine but 90% of the business tools and apps required to work are either not there or don’t work, the answer to this is then always VMs or apps like wine, which is crazy fidley for the vast majority

I think when Bottles is able to run more and more Windows apps it will help ease the transition to Linux by those abandoning Microsoft. There's a similar kind of project that is nowhere near the level of development yet called Darling where Macintosh apps can be run inside Linux. Neither involves installing a copy of Windows or Mac OS in a virtual machine or some other way where the whole OS has to be installed. When they can get it so these apps can be run inside Linux seamlessly without going through an in-between app (such as launching the Windows app from inside Bottles) I think Linux adoption will spike. The greatest barrier for many is needing some specific Windows or Macintosh app where there is no good equivalent that's native to Linux or needing to work with others who require that app. Other than that the other barrier is not having many computers sold, especially in brick and mortar stores, with Linux already pre-installed like it is with Windows or Mac OS. That's enough of a friction point where most people are unwilling to install it on their own.

Just switched to Linux mint 21.3 (done it before to try out Linux Mint). This time I am going to stick with it as it has become blindingly obvious that Microsoft really don’t want any user to feel that they ‘own’ their own PC. Linux Mint is now so easy to use that anyone can use it with some experience of using a windows PC. The Linux Mint forums are full of people busting to help newbies, so just do it.

Manuscripted videos are almost always much more concise and informative than unprepared presentations. I use to recommend to my (programming) pupils to write a manuscript and speak from it if they're unsecure. It is always good for the presentation to have a manuscript in the case that you forget what to say, even if you make a "script-less" informal presentation. With time the presentations get much better and more informal in tone. Keep doing it the way you do!

Most people primarily use web apps which are hosted on primarily linux servers, so one can argue that most people use linux on a daily basis regardless of platform. To put it another way - electron wrapped apps and web browsers are both essentially a thin client to access linux in many cases.

Windows 8.1 was rubbish and made my 10-year-old laptop worse. It couldn't stream HD video or even load Reddit. I put Linux Mint on it a few weeks ago. It can now stream HD video and load Reddit. It's also faster than Windows 8.1, using 0.6 GB less RAM on idle. It's proof that Windows is just glorified bloatware.
