I spend my life focusing on how I can get to what matters and ultimately what matters to me most is my family. How do I get there? By working every single day to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life. I am continuously looking fo new way to improve both my physical health and mental health through setting goals. Running has become my main focus but overall fitness including endurance training and strength training helps me be a more well rounded athlete

Love it! But i think they took advantage of some loophole in there/your pizza! Hahaha memories that’ll last a life time!!
That’s awesome Matt. Great way to get the family involved.
It does make the whole thing worth it.
You'll crush the Fredericton Marathon in May! I’ll be there to shake your hand when you PR!
Fingers crossed. I know I can get faster. The real question is going to be how much faster can I get :)
Heart rate monitors are useful, but they can take a while to accurately reflect how you're feeling. By the time they do, you may already be running at threshold, which can be detrimental. In contrast, running with power provides immediate feedback, allowing for a more consistent and controlled pace that avoids threshold.
I hear what you are saying, just have gotten so used to heart rate it would be hard for me to make that change.
Too funny!
So much fun!!
haha this is awesome!
Thanks, it was fun until I lost to my 14 year old daughter :)
Definitely get a HRM. I have the Coros arm strap one.
I think I might try the Coros arm band. I've also seen some pretty good reviews on some cheaper chest straps that I might try. Either way, the wrist heart rate monitor from my Garmin honestly seems to work pretty well most of the time, just probably not reliable enough if I am going to base my training off my heart rate.
Try buying one of those elastic watch strap loops and see if you have any problems. I have a Garmin 965 with an elastic strap and I have never found it to be off. In regards to lifting one way to fit it in when the mileage goes up is to cut your lifting sessions shorter and with less intensity. I have tried this and I feel fully recovered the day after when I run.
Might try the elastic watch straps. Also, agree on the lifting (cutting sessions shorter) I find that I have built a pretty good base in the gym and as long as I'm consistent with it I don't have to put in super long sessions all the time to maintain things.
They're a race shoe. The fact that you can use them for just about anything is fantastic BUT complaining they don't do things they weren't intended to do isn't the fault of the shoe. Do we complain babies can't do advanced calculus? How about dogs writing slam poetry? "Oh this camel is great in the desert but it can't fly, I hope they fix this" It's. A. Race. Shoe. 🫣
Great work! Thank you for sharing your ups and downs!! Thank you for showing us “regular” people with jobs and lives that with a little motivation that anyone can do it!! And yes you should invest in a heart rate monitor…. I have a polar verity sense its been working good and wayyy more accurate than my garmin fenix 6 pro! Also looking into gore tex shoes for these canadian winters…. Too many options! lol Have a great run!!
Thanks, it definitely can be a bit of a struggle putting in the training with all the other things that we juggle but I find at the end of the day finding a way is usually worth it. As for the gore tex shoes I keep going back and forth on them. There are plenty of days that I feel the benefit of having a pair for running through winter. But I have often found that I still just end up reaching for whatever shoe I like the most and just deal with wet cold feet in exchange for the best ride. There are days where they really help though. Are there any pair you had your eye on?
@ i was in montreal over the weekend and got my hands on the pegs trail 5 gore tex! Wore them walking around and they’re not bad! We’ll see how they go this week i guess! Haha
I think I will borrow your pizza mile idea. It is hard to include family your personal running journey, but this idea rocks. In Northern Ontario, that track will be a challenge, but I think that will make it all the more fun and memorable for my kids (12 and 13) and I. I am new to finding your channel, but thanks for this great content that I see so far.
Thanks, the pizza mile was a lot of fun. Just put out a video on it yesterday. It's funny, I know it's not the type of video that is going to grab lots of views but it's usually the type of thing I like making the most.
@@WhatMatterstoMatt My daughter and I watched your pizza mile video shortly after you put it online. She is already plotting my pizza!! We may turn it into a Christmas Tradition, after the gifts and before the mayhem of the family dinner, a "peaceful" outing for the 2 of us.
It really fun to catch the Santa Claus
Mizuno seem to have done really well with the Neo Vista, curious to see how the V2 stacks up. It's out there now, but Mizuno seem to be keeping a semi tight lid on it for details.
Yep, seems like they have a few shoes coming out in 2025 that might be interesting. Hopefully soon will have more details.
I'm also Canadian & enjoy your videos. It's too bad there's no availability of Mizuno Neo Vista in size 15. To be honest, I don't think Mizuno ever sold it in a size 15.
Interesting, I know it can be hard for me to find a size 13 shoe, it must be really hard some time to find a size 15 shoe. The options probably get a little less.
Really really appreciate these long-term reviews Matt, and will be very curious to know how far you get to with these once you do retire them!! Durability is one of the most important characteristics for me, though it’s crazy the difference between individual runners … I’m one of those lucky lucky ones who seem to get well over 1000km out of almost every shoe, though rarely with the same "magic feeling"! I certainly do sit up and notice those which easily take me even as far as 2000km… most notably the original Novablast and the Triumph 20!!! I mostly do trails though i stick to my trusty Alphaflys for the occasional road marathon… the original V1 and the best!!😁 And they are wearing phenomenally well for me, unlike they did for many!!
Hey Matt i bought this shoes and they was tested for my foots and i love them but after 1,5 km they start hurring. I really love them and i cant get them back. This after 3 times tuning about just 3km per run
I have 300 km in mine. At what mileage do you think they should no longer be considered for racing a marathon?
Way to go buddy! I was thinking of doing the same for the Freddy marathon! But the next week there’s a backyard ultra in edmundston that i wanted to do! Will use the half marathon as a warm up for the back yard! Keep it up and looking forward to watching your journey and seeing what kinda pizza your daughter will get! Hahaha
For someone who struggles in the recovery aspect, the additional level of detail might help them immensely. I'm lucky, in that recovery is something I excel at, which has allowed me to train 7days a week (minus a few post marathon recovery weeks) year round. If not for my recovery habits, there's no way I'd be able to keep up the volume I have, let alone the intensity. It's definitely a tough market for UltraHuman to make in roads into, but it seems like they are doing a good job providing a specialized experience.
You're not wrong. My recovery is by far my weakest point. Sleep is probably the biggest factor keeping me from being able to train at the intensity and pace that I would like. It's mostly a combination of doing too many things that I end up with less sleep and the sleep that I do get is far from optimal. Working out that aspect of my recovery would probably move the needle more towards my goals than any specific training plan
Mine some of the energy rods broke around 500km. But still can use, just making squeaking noises. No complaints there for a race pair to last that long.
I have not had any break on me yet. I've had a few people say that when the rods broke they could still run in the shoe they just had to put up with the noise 🙉
How did the upper hold up; did the hole get larger, more holes, how long did it last, how many miles please reply???
Retired them at 788km. 490 miles. Hole eventually got too big. With the triumph 20 I was able to get over 1000 km. Both pretty different shoes but feel I got pretty good value in the end out of each
@@WhatMatterstoMatt Wow thank you! Did the mid sole and outsole hold up as well on the triumph 20?
All the Santa hunters gather here
I dig the hat!! What brand?
Can't believe I missed your comment. The hat is a bit of a no name brand. It is something that I picked up a few years ago from my local ski hill.
These shoes have managed to check all the boxes for me! Enough cushion for longer runs, responsive enough for when you want to push the tempo, available in a wide fit where it’s wide at the forefoot but snug in the midfoot and heel, and the wide fit was available in not-so-boring colors. I had not worn Mizuno running shoes before but I could not be happier and might even get a second pair just in case.
That’s great to hear!! I imagine I’ll be putting more miles on these
I’ve just bought a pair of these for £100. Felt like a bargain for doing my interval sessions midweek.
Pretty awesome deal 💪👍
When it comes to running, I actually prefer to skip the caffeine. While a lot of runners rely on it for an energy boost, I’ve found it doesn’t work well for me. I like feeling naturally energized and in tune with my body’s own rhythm during a run. Caffeine sometimes makes me feel jittery or unsettled, which can be distracting. Plus, I’ve found that staying hydrated and sticking to a good pre-run meal gives me all the energy I need. So, for me, running caffeine-free just feels right!
Roy, do you end up drinking much caffeine at all?
@ I consume no caffeine, not by choice, but because it would literally put me in the hospital. I get really bad anxiety and headaches, so I've learned to find other forms of pick-me-ups when it comes to running.
No issues with eyelets on Boston 12, but Adios Pro 3 eyelet what the hell happened?
It feels like it was a strange decision
front left eyelet on right shoe, sore on my bunion had to use bandage thick socks - 23 miles only
Wow, barely had the chance to break them in. Ever have any other problems with Adidas?
They just won't go on sale lol. I want to buy a pair for workouts and long runs.
It’s funny I remember them being on sale a few times a while ago (over a year) but keep checking and have not seen many deals since.
I always load up on caffeine before a race. At my weight, I'm looking for about 400mg - so about 3 cups of coffee or multiple caffeinated gels. Seems to be for the best, my race paces are much faster than my workouts.
Do you use caffeine for any of your other runs or workouts? I think I have gotten to the point where I am so caffeine dependent that I pretty well have at least a coffee before every single run
@WhatMatterstoMatt not normally, I save the caffeine for races. Most of my runs are either before morning coffee, or hours afterwards.
Makes sense. Might give that a try.
Didnt work for me. It took a chunk of flesh out of my toe, just directly under the top inner eyelet. It was a nightmare that i had to stop and walk back barefoot.
The upper seems to be the biggest issue with the shoe. Looks like they had a complete redesign in the v4.
@@WhatMatterstoMatt yeah, saw some clips of it. I love the Boston 12 and too bad the AP3 is not the same. but once the AP4 general release is out imma cop one.
you deserve more views
Thanks 🙏 it’s nice to hear that. Right now I just love making content. Hopefully I can eventually reach more people
It’s slowly becoming the greatest ever running shoe, 3 pairs in so far and an unimaginable amount of miles
Awesome, they are still going strong for me. Can’t wait to try the 4
Been watching some of your vids on shoes...Some good deals where I'm living... I picked up a pair of Triumph 20's for $60 yesterday. I usually pop a caffeine/tablet before runnig or workouts. I love my coffee, but not before running since there are no pit stops where I go.
I'm close to 300 miles in my pair and they still feel fantastic. I will be retiring them though in January when the v4 comes out 👌🏻
Can’t wait for the V4. Fingers crossed they improved on an already good shoe
The biggest problem of this shoes is the upper, it's a nightmare for me, to rigid, I had to sell my pair after only two run.
Upper always seem to be the biggest complaint with these
I think the same, they are suitable for all speeds; +600km with them and they still have a lot more to go, I did 1200km with my first Boston 10 and have +800 with a second pair, but the Pros are special.
Agreed!!! And 1200km in the Boston 10’s, that’s Awesome
@@WhatMatterstoMatt That pair now has more than 1800km, since I gave it to a friend for his easy runs hahaha
Thanks!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Love the ap3 , I have three pairs use them for everything slow easy fast race, Hope I can get some more on discount.
Just retired my first pair after 1400km. And they probably had a couple of hundred more k in them. Unbelievably resilient. Any initial heel rub issues solved by folding the heel flap inwards, covering the woeful stitching between the heel pads.
1400km and still going strong 💪. Any thoughts on the Pro 4?
@WhatMatterstoMatt will probably wait for them to appear on discount, but the changes look promising. Although I managed to avoid any rubbing issues with the Pro 3, I can't say that the upper was overly comfortable. I just hope they haven't made it too soft, as durability would no doubt suffer along with the much-loved responsive ride of the Pro3.
@matthanna1980 agreed
No one can argue the quality of the outsole and midsole of most of the Adizero line. It's the TERRIBLE uppers. It looks like they have made some great changes to the heel area on the EVO SL and the Adios 9, but the rest still have that terrible heel lock issue. I have a pair of Takumi Sen8's at nearly 500km and I think due to the heel cup having very little structure and the heel collar padding having a slightly smaller gap it's allowed the heel lockdown to be acceptable. But the Boston 12.....yikes! Heel lift city. Strangely enough, while the LS Pro feels great and feels fast, the data says it's a very inefficient shoe for me. Which in training, I could careless. But i'm curious how the changes to the AP V4 (upper, midsole, and weight) will potentially be a huge improvement.
Agreed. Early reviews of the Pro 4 do seem to be a pretty good sign. For the most part folks are saying that it seems lighter and more energetic. The increased rocker should put you up on your toes more. They did not try to be so cute and do anything fancy with the eyelet chain. Seems like a lot of folks that truly love the Adios Pro 3 love it in spite of the upper. I'm hopeful that the long wait it took to actually bring the Pro 4 to market is worth it.
Thankyou simple and works
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
I’ve lost about thirty pounds over the last 6 months or so, and I haven’t gotten a lick faster at running. I’m baffled by it. I guess I’ve lost muscle too, though I’ve kept the same level of training throughout the weight loss.
It can be a tricky balance. Getting better at running (how ever you decide to measure it) can involve so much more than weight loss. I know some pretty big guys that can destroy me in a race, but I also know some pretty small guys that run past me like I am standing still. But you are right, less weight does not always translate into becoming a faster runner.
Does the pacepro have audio prompts? I tried it last night and I couldn't get it to audio prompt me (on pace, behind, etc)
Can you please tell me Glycerin 21 or nimbus 25,which one is more durable?
I have only run in the Glycerin a few times so I would hate to make an opinion on which one would be more durable. My guess would be either shoe would offer you lots of happy miles :)
Thanks. It was really helpful. I bought it for my mom but I was not sure about the recovery. Love from India 😊❤
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this very detailed review. I am a route delivery driver living in the Midwest but I was born and raised in Florida so I really had no idea what shoe to buy for running my route this winter. You quite possibly just saved me a lot of money and potentially some skipping on ice
Thanks - great video
Thank u 🙏
Put the work into the half block, recover, put in a few maintenance weeks over X-mas, and hit the ground running in Jan for Freddy '25. The new route is going to be FAST, probably 60-90sec faster than the previous. One of the best marathon routes (if not the best) within 5-6hrs driving distance...or more. See no reason you can't flirt with sub 3:10hr. I won't be running Freddy full this year. But I suspect I will be running in some capacity trying to help a few people hit their goals. Depends on how healthy I am post-Boston.
I saw the changes that they made. Should be exciting in the spring. I’m really not looking for anything brilliant in a December half. Just want to have a little focus because I feel like I have left a lot on the table with letting my fitness dip a bit coming into a spring training block. So just trying to have a little patience and let the fitness come to me a bit so I can push hard for the spring
@@WhatMatterstoMatt I'm sure if you want some great long runs in Feb/March/early April, the Lollygag crew can accommodate you! 🤣
Lol. Like before. My goal will be to hold on 😂
Thanks Matt, this really helped.
No problem at all. Thank you 🙏
