Mizuno Wave Sky 8 Review | Mizuno Is Having A Year

So far this year I have had the chance to review the Mizuno Neo Vista, The Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2 and now the Mizuno Wave Sky 8. Have not run in them for a while. But that’s mostly just due to having other shoes in for review. They have been a great daily trainer. I have a bit over 400 miles in them at this point and they still feel pretty good. You’ve got me curious though so I might have to find a way to squeeze them into a run this week 😂

      They still feel pretty good. Just about at 200 miles and they are holding up well. I actually just did a 25 km (15.5 mile) easy (sorta easy 😂) run in them this morning. I would say they have lost a little bit of pop or bounce vs when they were new. But honestly expected that out of a shoe with that much soft foam in it. It’s made it’s way into that (I’m not really sure what I’m going to run today, so I’ll just grab these category). With the booty knit upper and the high stack of foam they are feeling a bit to relaxed for an all out speed session but still fun to run in

    Hypothetically, Matt, if you are going to run five road marathons in five days and need a shoe to accomplish this challenge, would you use the R1 for all five days, or would you alternate the R1 with another long run shoe (let's say the Superblast) to allow the R1 midsole to relax? Hypothetically.

    • @bev9708
      @bev9708 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hope you don't mind me jumping in, but speaking from the scientific evidence, there's no question to alternate shoes if it's feasible to do so... the scientific evidence is that for both injury prevention and shoe recovery, at least 2 shoes makes a massive difference and not to run more than 4 days in the same shoe!! Brodie Sharpe covered this evidence on his Run Smarter podcast if you're interested ! AND for those of us who run every day or almost, the science is that 4 shoes is most effective for injury prevention!!

    I'm really confused!, Garmin 255 compares to Huawei band7. The time go to bed totally different, the difference is 1h30' on 2 devices (H 6h4', G 4h26'). According to my record, I prefer Huawei. And the result after that, sleep score on Garmin 41, so the body battery today only +13 and recovery time up to 80 after 40km bike last night. Haizzz, I don't understand how the Garmin measure.

      Thanks for the feedback. 170 miles is not much out of a shoe to start "loosing its magic." If I am being perfectly honest I tend to take horrible care of my running shoes and thinking back to the Velocity Nitro 2, I was pretty hard on them and ended up not longing a lot of miles relative to some other shoes. They became sort of the "workhorse" shoe for everything running, gym, yardwork and day to day wearing around. Once these did loose their magic is there another shoe you leaned on for similar runs?

      @@WhatMatterstoMattfor me at 180 lbs, I do find most shoes to become boring (but not totally dead) around that 200 mark. The only shoe so far that hasn’t is the endorphin speed series from saucony. Right now I’m leaning toward the Mach 6 for my more traditional daily trainer. Nothing beats PUMA grip but I was pleasantly surprised by the outsole on the new Mach! I did hill sprints in a massive rain storm and didn’t slip at all.

    I bought this shoe cause I work in a hospital and got planatar fasciitis. So far this shoe has been really comfortable and is helping my pain go away. Trying to find pther shoes that can help. Do you have any suggestions about shoes with a similar feel? Maybe I'll try sacouny.

      Nice to hear they are working out so far. If I am being honest I have not had much of a struggle with Plantar Fasciitis so I might not have a good answer. My guess is most folks that are in the know might lean you towards a stability shoe. These are not a stability shoe but given their wider platform they feel plenty stable for me walking or running. Hoka always has the Bondi (not stability shoe either but especially for walking you run into the same thing, lots of cushion but wide enough to feel pretty stable.) Saucony has the Hurricane 24 (newer but getting good reviews and is considered a stability shoe.) Ultimately if possible getting to a running shoe store to get fitted might be your safest bet.

      I just bought Nimbus 25. The upper part is very narrow and squeezes my foot. Does it expand and relax over time as you use it?

    I over pronate and I’ve had a history of various pains in my feet, ankles and knees. This shoe shouldn’t work for me, but it does like nothing else. I ran in it for a couple months before starting 1/2 marathon training and now I’m 6 weeks into training. All other shoes have fallen out of my rotation because nothing feels or performs this good. And it has protected my feet and my joints like no other. I’d like another shoe to pair with it, but currently I just can’t bring myself to run in anything else.

      It’s such an interesting shoe. You would think a tall stack height of squishy foam and a knit upper might really cause problems for someone who over pronates but it seems to work for a lot of people. Definitely not a stability shoe but just seems to keep me moving forward

    Could you compare the Saucony Ride 17 to the New Balance 860v14? Don't worry about the 860 being classified as a mild stability shoe. It actually runs like a really good neutral daily trainer which happens to have excellent stability. These 2 shoes are 2 of the best extremely versatile running shoes. There is also a new Saucony Ride TR2 GTX which is a road to trail shoe based on the Ride 17 that I wish someone would review online. Sometimes when they add goretex waterproof upper, the fit becomes tighter and you need to size up a half size.

      Interesting. Honestly chances of me reviewing the NB 860v14 are not likely at this point, just have too many shoes to test/review and not enough money in the budget to buy something else. I am seeing more and more folks talk about "stability shoes" feeling better than they did back in the day. I think the way companies are viewing them has changed. More and more it is about assisting/guiding you forward and less about forcing you to have the perfect foot strike.

    The difference between the Ride 17 and the Triumph 20 is that the fit is a little more roomy in the Ride 17 (which I like) and there is a little less stack height which means that it doesn't feel quite as bouncy and energetic. But it does feel more stable in the heel, which is why I prefer the Ride 17 over the Triumph 20. It feels more stable. I would pay $140 for the Ride 17 rather than pay less money for a discounted Triumph 20-21 online.

      Thanks for the input. Agreed the Ride 17 feels more stable. Can really depend on the reason what you are needing the shoe for/looking for out of a shoe

    Unfortunately there are no running shoe stores near me that are willing to carry the shoe but I am able to purchase this half off used with 75 mi on it. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

    • @WhatMatterstoMatt
      @WhatMatterstoMatt หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting. Whether it is worth it or not could be a hard question. It's definitely worth it if the shoe is going to work for you and what you are currently hoping to get out of it.

    Seems a bit too soft for me. Prefer a bit firmer and bouncy rather than mushy soft.
