After doing some research we decided to visit a field we’d had our eyes on for some time (5 years to be exact). We suspected there would be the presence of roman but just how much we wasn’t sure. Armed with our XP metal detectors off we went and boy did we have a great time with some wonderful finds popping up. Enjoy.

An absolute cracking day. We was buzzing to get back to metal detecting a field that had a lot of promise. It was slow and steady but it was worth it! Keep the remote nearby as there is a little bit of wind noise. AND, yes I know, the coin is not Richard III, it’s Henry III :) Find of a lifetime, with a coin on Saxon King of Mercia, Offa along with coins of Henry I, Henry III and Edward I. We a...

It’s been a while! Here’s a selection of clips from a few outings, a bit of a warmup to our come back ;) That’s right, we’re back Metal Detecting the UK one field at a time again. I don’t quite have the time like I used to for video editing so these bideoa might not quite have the same polished finish as in the past but let’s be honest, you just wanna see the finds right! :)

Not a bad days detecting
Hi Darren, the Siliqua Fragment is of Valentinianus I (or II) with VRBS-ROMA reverse legend. I would guess RIC IX Treveri 27A or RIC IX Treveri 27D or RIC IX Rome 11A all with variants. There ar a few other possibilities though. Shame the mintmark is gone. Still a nice find. Regards
Thank you, appreciated
Think the big round lead disk could be a palm guard 👍
I’ve come across palm guards before and tbh agree. This one odd though. Seems a bit overkill lol
Nice ‘cartwheel’ silver!
I love it! Genuinely thought it was a milled. Always welcome a nice surprise!
Wow good coins Congratulations 🎉 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Darren, nice AE1 of Diocletian (most likely RIC VI Londininium 6a) and the Large Chi-Rho (of Constantine?). Miss the thorougly assembled Round-Ups and the excellent pictures of the finds in your earlier videos. And the sound of your deus and the live-digs. And really don´t like the music - unnessecary and distracting. Nonetheless yours is one of my favorite MD-Channels. Best Regards from Austria
Thanks again 💪
Amazing field some good finds there nice video 👍 shaune in Kent
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Some lovely finds, great dig.....Best nugget.
Thanks for popping by
Lovely mixture of finds especially the hammered ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, Thanks for popping by
Where would the Oyster shell have come from?
They were farmed in local streams and large ponds. Romans often farmed them in dedicated purpose dug ponds. That’s one possibility.
Some nice finds coming up
Thanks for watching.
excellent finds there lad!
Are the two bronze objects part of a pomel instead of a spindle worl?
hmm good shout. Possible. will let the flo take a look.
nice finds. Too bad the silver roman coin misses a piece but it's still a very nice find.
yeh they all had chunks out of them or very worn. still im very happy to have made the discovery. hope to be back there next year!
Hi have subscribed to your channel can i ask what you film with and how easy is it to get on to you tube as hope to start soon just getting as much advice as possible I use a manticore and have the deus 2 all three coils for both any advice most welcome like yourself love metal detecting shaune in Kent 👍
Welcome to the channel. I have an old iphone 10 which is enough for my needs. then use iMovie to edit. I used to use a GoPro 4 and VDSC editor but found it all very time consuming. editing an uploading from my phone is much easier.
Could that "strange George III coin" not be a coin at all? The front seemed to me to have "George Gordon' on it? Could that be a reference to Lord George Gordon and the anti-catholic Gordon riots about that time? Some sort of unofficial 'commemoration coin' perhaps?
Youre right. Search for ‘Evasion Token’ - makes for an interesting read!
Very nice evasion’ halfpenny. These counterfeit were commonly used here in Canada, I find a lot. They were mostly made the the US I believe Edit, by changing the motto and / or using dates when the government did not mint them, it can be argued they are not counterfeits and perhaps avoid the noose.
Lovely Roman
That site is absolutely amazing! Congratulations!!
You need to do something about the wind noise!
:(
Very nice. Well saved mate.
Wow, lovely Lizzy 6/-p. Well done indeed. John.
I had to go out for an hour watching this, I just hit the beach nothing brilliant but fun being out all the same
Just nice getting out sometimes, just to clear your head. i have days where i find nothing just like everyone else. Just gotta keep plodding away :)
Well 2020 was a very nice year, I'm only just starting out and cuz I live on a small island theirs not much land but its split up between alot of owners so I'm struggling to secure permissions as I don't want to upset anyone, I have found some modern coins and a few other interesting pieces of metal, it's all fun while learning to use this machine as a total novice.
keep at it, you’ll soon find the history hot spots!
I ain't seen anyone pull out a lump of gold b4 now that's a dream find, I just purchased a shilling a 2 shilling and a silver 3 penny and if I find any of them metal detecting I'd be a happy lad indeed...
hack gold is actually one of the more common finds if youre near a bronze age site along with axes. the hack gold was used to trade before coinage came along.
Interesting stuff 🤔
As always, nice finds Darren and Co. Thanks for the upload.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely fantastic day! I’m looking at possibly heading to England this summer for a couple days of digging. It’s just a short flight from Germany thank goodness.
Have fun!
Nice finds. Always enjoy your vids
Awesome thank you!
Cracking hammered finds. 👍
Thanks 👍
Some great finds. Cheers, John.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like a great field and awesome finds guys ❤

@@manvfieldmetaldetectinguk6767 I've just bought myself a Minelab Equinox 900 so if you need any help, gizza shout. I need to learn this machine.
Hi Darren, been a while since these popped up. Nice to see you still at it.
Welcome back! Hope you’re well matey!!!
There he is! Keep it up man, we love to see it 👍
More to come! Thanks for stopping by.
Great to see you and yer Dad out again !! Excellent finds!!
Cheers pal. Nice to see you back watching the channel. Appreciated.
Love this!
Welcome to the channel James!
Nice finds. Will you be at Detectival in September?
Probably not matey, I’m always tempted but the last one, so I hear, wasn’t a bit pants. But that’s how detecting goes I suppose. Just not sure I really want to be surrounded by hundreds of other detectors and their owners 😂
The siliqua may be a Lyon mint (SLVG), Valentinian I, maybe Restitvtor reip reverse. That’s where I’d start anyway.
Thank you
Wonderful finds guys ,missed your videos 👍
Thank you. More to come!
your blessed having roman coins and a dad to dig with. well done lads!
I know, it's great to be able to share a hobby with people you love. I'm very fortunate and even more so if we ever stumble across a field like this. It's not the first time we've discovered sites together. We have found approx. 4 other roman sites previously unknown to Archaeology. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow some great finds there! Loved the bullhead. Cheers, John.
Glad you enjoyed it, part 2 and 3 will be up shortly.
Great video lovely finds really not keen on the background music felt like being on hold using the phone. Maybe just me lol
Yeh, not sure what happened with the music. Sorted for the latest vids. Thanks for stopping by.
What wonderful finds! I would love to find some Roman pottery… and that quern stone (?) was a dream find. Thanks for a really good video. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. Still waiting for confirmation if it is a quern stone. Thanks for stopping by!
Brilliant video, love the finds,😮 thanks again John 👏👏👍 regards Kelvin.😊
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by!
