KYOTO IN PEAK BLOOM | Arashiyama + Imperial Palace
Experiencing cherry blossom season in Kyoto during peak bloom is an amazing experience. From Arashiyama to the Imperial Palace grounds, all the sights are spectacular.
We began our morning in Arashiyama area, about 30 minutes out of downtown Kyoto. The bridge was surrounded by cherry blossoms and then we continued to find more as we went to Tenryu-ji Temple. At Tenryu-ji we paid admission to their gardens that included a shortcut to probably the biggest attraction in Arashiyama, the bamboo forest. The bamboo forest was packed with people. We found if you walked a short distance away, there was a smaller but equally impressive bamboo forest with far less people. There are a few other temples in this area to check out and a monkey park that a lot of people visit.
Then we went to the heart of Kyoto to walk the Imperial Palace Grounds. In the late 1800s, the capital of Japan moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. These grounds hold a lot of history from being the last capital. The grounds around the palace were beautiful featuring so many cherry blossoms and many walkable paths.
Another thing we did while in Kyoto was have a lot of matcha since Uji matcha, the highest grade of matcha is from the Kyoto area. This led us to have crepes, lattes, ice cream, and more during our visit.
There's a lot more to do in Kyoto than we featured. It's an area that you can easily spend a few days and not run out of things to do. We were just so glad we were able to catch peak cherry blossom season!

This is KYOTO | Famous Torii Gates, Peak Cherry Blossoms, & Food
มุมมอง 7714 วันที่ผ่านมา
We explore our first day in Kyoto, Japan by visiting shrines, cherry blossom spots, and trying lots of food. We begin our morning at the famous 10,000 red torii gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine. This area like most of Kyoto was very busy even though we visited in the morning. Once we got away from the crowd, it was actually very peaceful, and we enjoyed wandering around the shrine and saying hi to...

Sometimes they can get a little aggressive when wanting...

I forgot to ask do I need to rent a car and if they have parking spaces?
We did, but you don’t have to. Roads can be tight in the towns, but we had no issues finding parking. They have buses that run around the island if you don’t want to put in the hassle of renting a car or atv.
I am planning my trip and this helps alpt. Thank you❤
So glad to hear that it helped. Have an amazing trip! ❤️
Loved the imperial palace (the architecture is awesome) but the bamboo forest 😮wow I never seen bamboo so big and tall 😳 Great tour Rachel and Matt Simon 🤠👍 The macha ice creams looked delicious 👌🏻
The bamboo was so impressive! We love ourselves some authentic matcha ice cream. 😋 Thanks for watching!!! ☺️
Loved the cherry blossoms! So beautiful. thank you for the tour of the Imperial Palace too. 🌸🌸👍🏼👍🏼
Us too! 🌸 Thanks so much for tuning in!
The colors in the garden are beautiful! It's too bad the bamboo first gets so crowded. And the Imperial Palace of Kyoto looks beautiful, I was surprised at the simplicity of the palace in Tokyo.
The colors were popping with all the florals! Kyoto’s Imperial Palace grounds were so impressive! We agree Tokyo was lackluster in comparison. Thanks for watching. 😊
Bamboo forest was the coolest part! Would totally go to this one! That looks like great matcha. They seem to love the mayo there. Interesting japanese buffalo ha! We love coffee from different countries. The architecture looked great! Imperial palace was a spectacular. Nice video.
If you ever visit, make sure to walk around the area and find the smaller bamboo groves. Equally as impressive but without the masses of people. They love their mayo and so do we! Haha Thanks for watching. 😊
You spelled Kalua Pork wrong. There is no H in that word.
Thanks! Mistaken typo
im in love with her look 🫶🥹
Thank you so much 🥰
Loved the cats upon the shrine 😊🙏🏼 👌🏻 The gates were amazing Rachel ! Kyoto looks a brilliant place to visit (hopefully one day 🙏🏼🙏🏼) Great that you managed to see some amazing blossoms 🌸too ! Give my regards to Matt👍 Best wishes Simon 🤠👍
So glad we found the kitties! We hope one day you can visit Kyoto too. Thanks for watching! 🥰
Wow the torii gates are beautiful. Great slow mo cat footage. Interesting about the fox spirit 10 k gates is pretty impressive. Seems the Japanese love their snacks. Peak blossom looks so nice. The streets look so picturesque. Great tour. Thanks guys
Most shrines are dedicated to some kind of animal. We loved seeing the different kinds during our stay in Japan. There’s not one bad shot once the cherry blossoms are out. It makes our job easy! Thanks so much for watching 😊
Nice video! Love the 10,000 torii gates. They are so beautiful! And it's nice that the cherry blossoms have started blooming! The shrines are so nice. You're braver than me to eat the sweet potato ice cream. 😅
We were so grateful to catch them blooming by the end of our trip! There really is a magical feeling once the cherry blossoms are out, and so great to see so many people out and enjoying them. We fully believe you can handle and would LOVE the sweet potato ice cream.

Beautiful video! Interesting to hear about the deer differences, good explanation by Matt! I'm sure our kids would love to see them one day, but we'll have to be sure to watch for the aggressive ones. Food looks amazing! I'll need to try original mochi there too to see if I still like it lol. Thanks for sharing, great video!
They would love it! The deer are so fun. The deer are harmless even if some come off as aggressive. Thanks so much for watching! 😁
I'm so glad you left the powdered sugar bit in. It gave us a good chuckle that we needed. John Daub from Only in Japan has a very special video about the Buddhist in that temple. It was filmed last year and it's the way they clean the statue. Def check it out if you can find it. It's pretty cool to see. One day we will go to Nara! The deer are super cute. Two years ago while visiting family in Texas, we were staying in San Antonio and the whole neighborhood was inhabited by local deer that was sadly taken over by a sub division. But it was cool having them everywhere and we even got to feed them special deer food. Great video y'all. 😊Getting us excited for our trip in Feb.
We always have unfortunate food accidents. Haha We will have to watch! We’ve seen the inside of the temple from other videos, but wish we would’ve went in to see it for ourselves. We’re just not the best with crowds sometimes. If not this next trip, you definitely need to go to Nara on the next one. It’s such an interesting place. The closest deer experience we’ve had to Nara was actually in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston! They have a small herd of deer (not sure how or why they’re there) and we fed them. Such a cool coincidence. We are excited for your trip too! It will be here before you know it. Thanks for watching guys!
Nara looks like such a magical place! The mix of nature, history, and adorable deer makes it a must-visit spot. Those deer are polite bowing for snacks, but they sure don’t mess around when it comes to getting those crackers! Loved how you balanced the touristy spots with hidden gems in Nara. Keep up the awesome content!
We agree! It is definitely a must visit spot. The deer are so goofy. We loved them so much. Thanks so much for watching and meeting our deer friends! 🦌
The deer are so unique. Thanks matt for the deer lesson. This is also something I would consider. Cool temple. Love the look of the temple and gardens. You guys went at the perfect time. Also such unique snacks. Love sandos! hahha i always say sando to amy. Katsu looked really good. Mochi is also a texure thing for me. It is probably so much better in japan. Really cool video in nara!
You have to go to Nara! There’s no other place like it. We enjoyed every second and kind of wish we stayed there a night. Those sandwiches were 10/10 ⭐️😍 Thanks for joining us and all our deer friends!
Kobe is beautiful! Wow. So exciting to be able to try kobe beef. 🥩 I hear it melts in your mouth. All that food looked great. Beef on sushi! Yes please. Don’t love red bean paste. Ramen looked pretty good! Great tip about the market. Touristy places love to hike up the price. i love sweet potato’s so the ice cream would be interesting. Was it grainy? Great looking neighborhood it does look more western. Looks like an amazing walkable city. And the cable car is something I would definitely do. Seems the gardens are very lush. Ill put that on the list! Thanks guys!
Kobe really surprised us! I think it all depends on how the person prepares the beef, but we definitely had some tasty beef while in Japan (Chinatown beef wasn’t the best though). The sweet potato ice cream did have a bit of grainy texture to it. We highly recommend to spend a few hours up at the gardens!! Thanks so much for watching. 🥰
Thanks for sharing, its very useful as I have been looking into this before my upcoming trip What do you mean by credit card with a pin? Mine does not have pin number, would I be able to bypass the pin number option?
As far as we know, you cannot use a credit card without a pin at unmanned gas stations. Credit cards are either set up with a pin/chip or a swipe/sign system. If your credit card doesn’t have a pin, you can still use it at manned gas stations where you can pay inside. Hope this helped clarify and happy travels!
Those deer are so funny! Their bowing is cute, until they bite... The shrines & gardens are beautiful & peaceful! And so much cute food! What a beautiful place to wander. Another nice video!
We loved the deer so much, even their little bites. Some people didn’t appreciate their eagerness as much as us… haha It was such a special place. Thanks so much for watching! ☺️
It doesn’t look anything like Hawaii . Hawaii is tropical Naxos isn’t but the water is beautiful !
After being to Hawaii, we agree.
Awesome pictures!!!!!
Beautiful

Aw thanks so much! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed the video. 😊
Japan looks AMAZING! It's definitely a country we want to visit first in Asia one day! Looks like you were able to catch some cherry blossoms, so pretty! The ramen looked so good too, and the honey ice cream! Interesting to hear your opinion on the kobe, we've never had it before, but will try it when we visit :) Great vlog, thanks for sharing! I'll check out your other Japan videos too 🤩
The cherry blossoms were a bit delayed, but at this point in our trip we were luckily able to catch a few. 🌸 What we learned from Kobe is there is great waygu all over Japan. Thanks so much for watching! ☺️
This is so 2009 TH-cam with the helpful tutorials back in the day.... So only credit cards not Debit cards?
Yes, a credit card with a pin would be the easiest!
HOW BEAUTIFUL!
Amazing ❤
We want to visit Kobe one day for sure because there's so much awesome things to do there and those gardens are on our bucket list. Chad and I also prefer the countryside over the cities. I do love NYC a lot though, I think that's the only exception. We tried certified A5 Wagyu beef in Osaka, it was a 8 course meal from an eatery that's well known and they came out with a certificate stating where the cow came from and even then, while it was delicious, we too were let down by it. We also had had Taijima beef from the Kyushu area when we were in Kinosaki Onsen and preferred the beef from that area much more. Not as fatty but extremely flavorful. And you're right, down the road we also learned that you might not be getting the better quality meat in the touristy spots/food stalls. Loved the video! Beautiful place. ✌🏼
The gardens are wonderful, you’ll love it! We had high expectations for Kobe beef, as I’m sure you did with your A5 wagyu experience. I think those high expectations was part of our problem with being a little let down. The best beef we had was a place we ate at in Osaka right in the heart of Dotonbori. With that area being so touristy, we were so surprised by the quality there. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
So happy to see more Japan videos! Kobe looks very interesting with the balance of the peaceful gardens and the big modern city. Great video! 💯
And there’s still more Japan videos to come! It’s a really interesting place. We are glad we added it to our itinerary. Thanks for watching guys!
Kobe would be so cool to visit! The beef over the sushi rice in Chinatown looks soooo good! I would love to try that. Yum! The panda bao bun is so cute! My husband would love to try the sweet potato ice cream! The ropeway is so cool! What amazing views. Fresh honey ice cream, yum! The garden is so pretty. What a great adventure! Thanks for bringing us along! 😊💕
It’s a neat destination! Chinatown was cool, but we preferred the sushi at the second spot we went to. That honey ice cream though. 😍 Thanks for joining us!
I enjoyed the video but the second "T" in Toronto is silent.
Haha, so we learned! This was our first visit so please excuse our mispronunciation. Thanks for watching!
In Montreal, most call it: "cha ron oh"!!
Wow! We just watched you visiting our hometown (we live a few blocks away from Yonge-Dundas) and you guys did a fantastic job covering all the bases. You sure managed to fit a lot into your visit! I think it's so clever to mention prices (parking, admission to sites) and you even showed us the Musical Gardens, which we're ashamed to say we've never visited despite being pretty close to it. As residents of The Six, we just wanted to say how great you presented our city!
Aw we’re so glad to hear we represented your city well! It was a short but busy trip for us. We’re not huge city people, but we really loved Toronto. We found there was such a vast variety of things to do. The musical garden is such a nice green space. You should definitely go sometime in the summer. Thank you so much for watching. 🥰
We had so many here too. Commenting to stay on Cat-Tube
Yum❤
Butter Baker a major disappointment! There is no ice cream just frozen yogurt in a cone. The cookies are buss tho
Aw we’re sorry to hear you didn’t like it. We really liked Butter Baker. Those cookies were definitely amazing!
OMG we need to try these! One of my favourite parts of travel is trying different candies you can only find in other countries and we haven’t done that enough imho. This is such a comprehensive rundown and appreciate the cross-section views of the candies. Also ❤️ Blackjack’s cameo at the top of the video😻
We have a little bit of a snack and candy issue. Frankly, it’s an addiction. 😂 We highly recommend checking out the Omnom shop when you go back! Blackjack is one of our little troublemakers, but we love him. ❤️
What an awesome food and travelling vlog this has been! Do keep up the good work too!! Stay safe and stay connected~
Thank you so much 🥰
how are you guys? we miss your food vlogs
We’re doing okay! We’ve had a busy summer. Hoping to get back to putting out videos soon!

Must have missed this one.we love mousaka and pastisio everyone in Greece makes it slightly different! Also love the rolled baklava less messy. Great desserts. We got soaked in lefkes lol . Paros. Beautiful around every corner. And cats 🎉 I think the cat said hello
Greek food in general is the best! The rolled version is super convenient to have on the go. We loved that talkative kitty!

It was so fun to eat our way through the city! Thanks so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed. 😊
I have always wanted to go to Japan! You are making me so hungry with all this amazing food. So many cool things go to try!! The cheese coin is fun hahaha. 500 yen but says 10 yen lol! I’d love to try the ice cream! I have always wanted to try wagyu, and there’s no better place to try it. That meat tree though is quite unique 😂😂 roast beef and ranch haha. The food garage looks like a neat place too. Awesome food tour you guys! I am sooo hungry now lol!! 😊💕
Japan definitely has a lot of unique and fun things to try. Glad you enjoyed our food selection! We get hungry all over again every time we see our thumbnail. Haha
Thanks!!! I flagged these for my upcoming trip. A few of this slipped through my Yelp filters!
