I followed the instructions step-by-step and noticed two things that are not shown or discussed in this video. First, after rebooting, the "BagMRU" folder reappears (not shown as doing so here). Second, Explorer seemed to work for a few days, and then started having lag issues again. When I checked RegEdit, a bunch of numbered files under the "Bags" folder were there (as before). Perhaps Microsoft saw this video and updated Win 10 so it ignores these changes?

Super helpful guide playing it now, however, is there a way to get it to recognize the xbox controller?

To manage the monitors i made a script in autohotkey that when a controller is conected make tv main monitor end launch steam in big picture. When xbox controller is shuted down it reset everything. This way i dont need to remove cabels

I seem to remember folder types working smoothly on windows xp and 7 on my 7200rpm hdd. Must have degenerated over time

Unfortunately it's a windows problem. I'm still on windows 10 enterprise. Hopefully when I upgrade to 11 it will stop. If you install icaros or another software called sage thumbs (you choose, both work). Then they do the thumbnail indexing and the problem goes away. It's just painful to keep trying stuff, because windows is broken.

Finally someone talking about the problem. I've searched for so long.

Not working anymore (december 2024) Maybe Microsoft found a way to rebuild the modified reg entries, the solution works as long as I don't turn off or restart the computer, if I do I have to redo the video process.

This is such an aggressively specific issue that I swore nobody else had. Literally within the first few minutes you covered EVERYTHING I was having issues with. Absolutely amazing, thank you so much.

Will this work on a different problem where moving, deleting, and renaming a file or document takes almost a minute even if it is less than a megabyte?

i was getting infinite explorer progress bar loading and previews/thumbnails disappearing on a brand new install of 10...big thanks for making a vid on this.

Unfortunately this didn't help, while it did help to load pictures quicker, there are still no previews of videos and its absolutely killing my work flow...I am about to bail on windows and I genuintely hate Apple, so that says quite a bit. I appreciate the vid either way, but Windows is absolute trash

Like literally everyone, this has saved me from going insane, I thought my old HDD was failing and I can't tell you number of times i have reset thumbnail cache etc ! - no my only other option is that photos.exe keeps stopping me from deleting files i have only just created, not sure if this fix will make that go away but knowing windows probably another reg key somewhere ... (photo.exe is unlinked from onedrive which was causing issues at one point but I thought i had fixed it then it's come back worse). but anyway i digest ;-) thanks so much
