metafy.gg/guides/view/how-to-master-pultzard-DdHbrWWHyKq/introduction-and-concept-lagv1gDRYXT It's Dragapult Charizard, not Dusknoir but I was a fan
@MellowMagikarp oh shoot. I was hoping for drag dusk, that's the one I need more practice with
The mustache is glorious.
Best in the game
Pro players are boring
Great interview and very informative. Just getting into the hobby as a player thanks to TCG Pocket and been absorbing as much as I can, and stuff like this looking at the inner workings of the highest tourneys is really awesome!
Glad it was helpful! And welcome to the IRL game, hope you enjoy it as much as I do
taking notes
Love Tim and his channel! he’s my pokemon crush, great video Mellow!
He's mine too 🤐
I’m happy my baby boi lugia got a small upgrade, that regigags is huge minus against pault and zard ,I put in 2-2 rat line still and 1 gigas
I definitely think the rat line is still good, 2 Gigas alone isn't enough
Love to see Tim on the podcast! He makes very good content that I watch as soon as it comes out, he is a League above any other content creator!
It's not even close! I said it on the podcast but I would love for the bar to get raised to his level
Is there a thing like you use your own dices to mark damages on your pokemons and your opponent his for damage on his ?
It's widely accepted you put them on your own Pokemon, but there is no rule against putting them on your opponents Pokemon when you attack. This is sometimes the best choice if there's a language barrier between the 2 players
@MellowMagikarp Yeah I was just wondering because such a rule would prevent mixing up our dices.
Tim channel=amazing
the lake of rage logo in the middle looks like a WHEY, Lake of Rage Whey for Pro TCG players getting their protein inc?! sry lol
Gosh I wish, lifting is my #1 hobby ahead of Pokemon lol
A few days ago after seeing Mellow's comments about the Oscar Madsen PultZard guide, I decided to go ahead and also buy it. I was thoroughly impressed with it! First time I ever make a purchase of that kind, and I am very glad I did so. Thank you for putting the guide on my radar Kevin!
You're welcome! I was also super surprised and if Vancouver was next week I'd be playing that 60 to it for sure
I play creuledge palkia and beat dragapult 60% of time, budew will not stop me, by time I attack, budew is knocked out
It's definitely a scary MU as Pult, one reason I'm thinking Manaphy is finding it's way into the deck
I think I picked a good time to start playing the TCG and purchase a Gardevoir deck
It's a tricky deck to play but pretty fun. Sadly it'll lose refinement Kirlia with rotation in a couple months though 😢
Definitely is! You've got a few months of Gardy reigning supreme for sure
Always love being on the podcast - Make sure you subscribe to Kevin to improve your moustache game!!!
Love Tim's videos! Huge amount of respect for being the change he wants to see!
Tim staring at me through the camera 👀
He's judging your weak mustache game
Bro your Klawf video is top Tier!!
thanks 🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Seismitoad was op because it was a bulky pokemon for its time and could take 2-3 shots on everything with the right modifiers. Budew should be very fair and balanced for the game.
Didn't realize this was from last year until I heard them start talking about giratina vstar and sablezard
Yeah we didn't plan one for this year, sorry! Just play Drago anyway 😂
I like his point about liking the dial to be an at even number. I have certainly experienced this bias in my own deckbuilding and is something that we should try to avoid.
Yeah I am also someone who says "but just play 4 of" when that is so clearly shown to not be correct time and time again
I’d love to hear more of Will Post in the future. I would love to hear more about the objective versus subjective rulings and it’d be nice to hear more of other Judging like “what would you do in this situation”. Also, I really wanted to hear Rapid Strike questions from Will regardless of being a player or not. We want the Rapid Fire questions!
We had some things we talked about before we never got to, we'll definitely plan on repeating sometime in the future!
This is so jokes, we just finished recording our epi yesterday with a judge as well and I'm just seeing this now #STEALFROMLAKEOFRAGE - Aneil
You're always biting our style
I appreciate the judges, obviously we need them to be able to have big tournaments. But I do think there is a lot of bias amongst a big part of the judges. Idk if it's because there's a friend group that judge and encourage their friends to become judges but there is a big enough group of judges that can't or won't separate their emotion or personal beliefs from rulings. Rulings should be objective, by the book and that is just not what I see. That is my main complaint with judging
You always have the right to appeal to the Head Judge, or submit a support ticket.
I am pokedad and tell my son always appeal to get better understanding.
Great advice haha
Always love watching the episodes that aren't all about the gameplay stuff, I find it more fun to learn about the stuff that makes our games work with Will and how he does everything from the judging side of things. Good stuff!
Appreciate it Kash! 💜
Great episode! Not sure if Will will be in the comments, but I may as well ask...two questions: Do you think judge compensation is where it should be at? Is that playing a roll in experienced judge turn over that you mentioned? And what would be the appropriate penalty/procedure in a situation where one of the prize cards was accidentally flipped over during game set up?
I asked Will and he just got back to me with a detailed response: I think judge compensation is greatly improved over what it has been in prior years and it's clear the company has listened to concerns over judge compensation. I think some aspects of judge comp and recruitment for tournaments need tweaking, but it's certainly not in the dire place it was a couple years ago. I think it had some role in judge turnover, but I think it's important to note that life changes (moving on from hobbies, growing families, changing job roles, etc) are probably a bigger overall factor. Generally, if a card is flipped over/revealed accidentally, we do our best to return it to where it's supposed to be and assess a warning. We don't want to penalize players for something like that when it happens by accident. I think you could find flaws in that system (a drawn extra card vs an accidentally revealed card carry two different penalties), but I think the flaws are going to exist in a system where we evaluate penalties based on damage to the game state, intent, and management of the game state, rather than a 1:1 measurement of "If this happened, then this is always the penalty" so it's an inconsistency I'm willing to accept for the moment.
@@MellowMagikarp Thanks for the follow up Kevin!
Tables after 500 are the most fun. 😂 You’ll see decks out of this world.
What year was the 'North/South sleeve rule' implemented?
Not a clue unfortunately
Ayyy a judge special! Will is such a legend and an inspiration
I met will before. He’s a great judge
Will was my HJ in Charlotte 2023....we had our hands full in the Juniors division.
@ it was always those divisions that had their hands full
I’ve been a judge since 2022. This is a great video
Glad it got your approval!
I’ve only been a judge since October 2024 and only for events of less than 15 people, so I’m very interested to learn more about this!
Hopefully it's helpful!
Appreciate the podcast and I like the content!
Glad you enjoy it! Makes it worth the time it takes
This is awesome, love this channel
Appreciate it 💜
Can Pokémon please hire him as a game designer?
That'd be fun
Ive been testing gardevoir with quad Jacq and its been working for me even pre budew format and its going to be better in budew format because the game is slower.

One thing that wasn’t discussed is how budew affects matches by slowing down games. Even in this turbo format it can be tricky to finish 3 games in 50, with budew that will become even harder. Seems that budew was designed with Japan rules in mind with rest the world just left to figure it out. Maybe TPCI should make it best of 1 as well so that they are aligned with the game designers.
This is a good point, we'll probably see the tie rate go up if the play rate of Budew is high enough
Budew will not create interesting gameplay. Budew is going to be toxic. But ill be playing pult thorns so i guess pokemon is heading towards more toxic gameplay like yugioh. hopefully it doesnt get to yugiohs level of just being centered around not letting your opponent play
this post was made by someone who doesn't play yugioh
@paradiseislands yes because negates, destroying cards, banishing cards, floodgates and interruptions on your opponents turn are not what win games in yugioh. I played until last year. Quit because it was so toxic. Ppl so afraid of their opponents even searching a single card. Whole games won off of one floodgate handtrap being played.
@@n4b5ter41 someones upset they have to interact with their opponent 😌
We lose cyllene so infinite strategies will be more difficult. Also tpci has been printing a bunch of supporter based switch effects recently so item lock plus paralysis isn't an auto win strategy. Also we have so much more supporter based search available for essentially everything at this point so if anything budew will cause decks to be built differently.
Good point, it goes beyond Brock as a good supporter option. Stuff like Surfer is potentially important now
If playing budew and use 4 cards which cards do you give up? Rhetorical question
Depends on the deck really
5:30 what balance? Basics are broken. Dragapult/Gardevoir are the only stage two that benefit from this mistake. Because they have innate draw power. 7:40 then dusknoir/dusclops was the problem not candy 9:35 Dragapult has gatekept chien Pao since it was released. 11:30 hopefully it's more testing than what the testing they did with dusknoir. 15:30 wise words, intelligent comment from Kevin. That's what will happen. Nobody is playing bibarel because of this. 😢 23:37 it's not players mistake. It's designers mistake, supporters can't be played going first so people prefer to see search items in their opening hand.
Can’t wait to see how budew interacts with Klawf. Not only could I slap a mochi + sneasler and item lock + 80 damage, but I’m also poison donking opponents budew turn one.
Please no 😭
Big fan! This deck was so fun I built an irl deck for the first time and have been going to locals and having a blast!
What’s your thoughts on the single prize klink klank? It has emergency evolution ability meaning it can be played straight away. It also hits for weakness and gets poison knock with mochi. Takes a DTE but discards after attack. It’s an easier way of hitting that 310 number and taking a double prize
The judge has to sign a physical slip and get a signature from both players in the case of a double loss so I guess that’s why there’s pens
I have several other western friends who played in the event, idk if I’d call them tpci players though because we all live and play in Japan
Yeah I was definitely thinking people who are actively living outside of Japan when I asked the question, cool to see y'all playing over there though!
Glad to see you cover TPC events! From Fabien's sharing, TPC events in Japan are run quite well. It's not always the the same in the other non-Japan TPC territories. Players are less likely to scoop when losing & might even intentionally play to a double loss, judges sometimes need to call a 2nd or 3rd judge to resolve judge calls and sometimes we only know when events are held less than 2 weeks before they happen. Would be cool to see you cover other lesser-known regions like TPC outside Japan, especially with our difficulty in getting elected to get points /implications of promo cards for Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Premier Ball & Master Ball events!
Super interesting to hear that it's so different outside of Japan. We've chatted with Kash about Singapore before and I'm hoping to get someone from a Chinese tournament at some point 🤞
As a Malaysian player under the TPC circuit, biggest issue by far is the BO1 system + lotteries to get into major tournaments. Variance on top of variance even before you get to sit at the table and play the game is never a good feeling to deal with. For what's it's worth, participation at these tournaments is free. But it can really feel unfair at times, since player performance/skill is irrelevant to their likelihood of securing entries. I'd be interested in trying the BO3 format in more depth, but for now, I'll have to deck-build and adjust my gameplay around the 25 minute timer and the overall BO1 format. Great conversation Kevin and Fabien
Nice video! You should get Alberto conti on here. Would be interested to here his transition from yugioh to pokemon
On my list for sure!
