    R these comics worth anything I have about 200 of them in a box in the loft apart from the first six ?

    $7.99 cover price for Avengers vs. Aliens is $15 at my LCS: I can choose to read a comic or buy lunch. It's hardly surprising that I only buy three new books a month now. Marvel and DC are pricing themselves beyond what many comics fans can afford. If regular monthly titles do hit $10 cover price then I will stop buying any new comics for the first time since 1971. Al Milgrom is a fine artist but Klaus Janson raises the art of any penciller to the next level. Marvel Classics Comics ran for 36 issues; #1-13 reprinted works originally published by Pendulum Press while #14 on were new adaptations. Growing up in the 1970s, battered issues of titles like Marvel Tales, Fantasy Masterpieces and Marvel Collector's Item Classics from book exchanges were the only way for me to read Marvel's Silver Age books.

    Congratulations on your comics. I have the only two graded copies of a popular character as well. Both are CGC 9.8s. The comic came out over a decade ago. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. The QC has definitely been an issue at CGC for a while now.

    Fantastic grades congratulations, continue to do what you are you doing, highlighting the early Marvel UK its a treasure trove what so many collectors are not even aware of, I think it also has to be hit home to people on what freaks of natures those books you showed are in those grades considering the newsprint they was printed on and the printing process for them to stand up like that for fifty plus years is very very special these were very much meant to be a throw away item , read it ,throw it away and wait for the next issue scenario those Starlin covers still stand up today and the Ditko alternative cover to AF#15 well there are no words pure Ditko I have loved it from the first moment I saw it all those decades ago when I bought it from the friendly neighbourhood newsagents,like I say keep pounding away on the Marvel UK front its time that it had its moment in the sun, even though they was indirectly to blame for so many Hulk 181s being ruined through the Marvel Value Stamps originally being a Marvel UK marketing gimmick we wont tell people about that lol, great video my friend as usual superbly put together.

    I never realised they had unique covers! Comics I bought every now and again, when I had bought all the DC titles I wanted! Was that the case with Fantastic and Terrific? I know you did a video about the back posters, most of them were unique I believe, but some, art not so good!

    Dave, are you aware of a book from Quality Comics called Scavengers? I have issue #1 and it has Judge Dredd on the cover. The cover artist is Bart Sears. At least the first three issues have Judge Dredd in them, but it doesn't look like he appears on the cover for issues #2 and #3. Great show!

    When I watched the Munsters and the Adam's family as a kid, there seemed to be so many episodes it went on for ever, as an 8 year old that is! But now as an adult you look up on Wikipedia there were only 2 seasons of both, mind you they did have 30+ episodes a season, lol! Along with The Beverley Hillbillies that's my UK childhood from the USA! Mind you there were 9 seasons of that! Wait there I've nearly forgotten Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie! Childhood done, lol!

    Great footage of the show, and it looked like a great show (I muted the droning, repetitive music to concentrate on what I was seeing). Wish we had similar shows here in Sydney. Loved the b/w magazines best, all those Marvel supernatural titles from the mid-70s are fantastic but hard to find today. And of course Vampirella, Eerie and Creepy need no introduction. Nice to see the Marvel Treasury Editions too, when I was 15 I walked an hour each way to a newsagents just to buy the Hulk Treasury. Al Ewing brought me back to the Hulk and Phillip Kennedy Johnson has kept me buying the title; definitely a golden age for this character. I always liked how Uncle Fester could work an electric light bulb simply by putting the end in his mouth - talk about an electric personality.

    I remember when the comic was out, you would have had to been an American in the early 80's to know the reason why. It was a spoof on all the generic products. Back then, there was no big box stores, and no dominance of the national chains we know today. The supermarkets were local or regional and did not have any private-label product lines. No store brands. It was premium brand or the new generic stuff. The generic stuff was cheaper, and it was carried by most markets and general (convenience) stores. The labelling was always plain white, with all-caps black nomenclature, identifying merely the name of said product. For example, the beer was a plain white can that simly said "BEER" on it, in black. The orange juice, apple juice, milk, toilet paper, paper towels, and soap, were the same. I can't recall all the products but it was a lot. They were displayed in a less-favourable shelf space under the brand names. I drank the beer, milk, OJ, etc. The trend ended just a year or two the most after this comic was made. No advertising or trade dress to inform customers or attempt to sell them was allowed. It was like you could imagine Soviet Union we would joke we felt like the communists. But for houseold staples it was cheaper and that's all that mattered.

    @HaulYeahComics, Alex Niño is, indeed, a Filipino comic artist who worked for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Warren Publishing, as well as for Heavy Metal magazine. He is credited with co-creating the DC Comics character known as Captain Fear (1st app. Adventure Comics #425). Mr. Niño is 84 years old. He has an extensive bibliography listed on Wikipedia.

  • @Bel_Izeard
    @Bel_Izeard 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    There is another generic comic known as "Generic Comic" published from 2000 to 2003. It had 13 issues. Issue #1 was written by Doug Miers. Pencils by Amilton Santos. And Inked by Rob Lean. Here is the synopsis for it... "A powerless and at first unnamed super hero (later Generic Man), he lives at home with his mother, fights to save The Big City from his nemesis The Mad Professor, has a cat-and-mouse type relationship with villain/love interest Bad Girl, and at one point even tries to reconnect with his father The Man." I can't find any details about any sort of publisher, however.

  • @charliedogg7683
    @charliedogg7683 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Well done on the award David. You'll need to explain to the youngsters what a cassette tape is and how it works (hint to young people: it's analogue!). Crazy Magazine was Marvel's answer to Mad Magazine. The Generic Comic Book was indeed created and edited by Larry Hama, who was also editing Crazy at the time, and written by Steve Skeates. It was not an attempt to gain copyright on the terms "superhero" and "supervillain" as Marvel and DC already co-owned those. It was basically a joke which Marvel hoped would sell enough copies to make it worthwhile. Remember, it came out in 1984, a period when Marvel was still able to laugh at itself: Fred Hembeck's Fantastic Four Roast came out in 1982, his Fred Hembeck Destroys The Marvel Universe was announced in 1983 (although it wasn't released until several years later) and The Marvel Fumetti Book #1 was also April 1984 (it pokes fun at the Marvel creators and features the tastefully posed phot of a naked Stan Lee reclining on his office couch). Today, Marvel's corporate overlords would never allow such a title as The Generic Comic Book, mainly because they don't know what fun is. Alex Nino was one of the first Filipino artists recruited by DC in the early 70s. He has also done work for Warren, Heavy Metal, Marvel and Archie, among many others. He's 84 years old and still drawing. Al Ewing brought me back to the Hulk and Phillip Kennedy Johnson kept me on the title. "The Black Hole" was one of Disney's more famous financial failures from that era; while #1-3 adapted the film, Whitman's #4 is an original story that sells for hundreds of dollars in high grade. This has certainly covered a lot of ground David, thanks to you and the crew for the insights and fun.
