Fantastic piece of history, congratulations.
Congratulations a great interview, so happy to see that comic book history like this is being recorded, the interview was very informative and turned on its head alot of my own ideas and takes regarding the art production for the Marvel UK books at this time so much more was produced in the US than I had always believed to have been. Truly a one of a kind VERY important recorded interview, up there with the Alan Class recorded interviews produced by 30th century comics a few years ago.
This was a fantastic walkthrough. Felt like I was there and wish I was! Great to see so many community members, and of course, all the beautiful comic books! Thanks for taking us along!
Good Evening David Top show as always mate, you never letthe tam down. Cool toys. Just a question, dou you have a Judge Dread figure? cheers Al The goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
I hate to tell you BrotatoChip comics are not still 35 cent$
I bought a Topps Jurassic Park 1 comic signed and numbered by George and the others from the book. I got it graded by CBCS but I’m going to send it to CGC eventually. Love the book
Hi David, the ROM figure is my favourite too. The Alien figure is still around in one form or another and has been in production for decades as it was modified to match characters from subsequent Aliens movies and comics. But ROM just screams 1970s for me and has remained as it was then. I think you should frame the letter from and photo of Tharg and give them pride of place on your wall. I had several Sal Quartuccio Production Marvel portfolios in the 80s and still have one, by Fastner and Larson. In fact, I was able to purchase a number of portfolios back then as an LCS had them so cheap that even an impoverished uni student could afford them. Apart from comics-themed ones, I have signed and numbered portfolios by Frank Brunner, Mike Ploog, Mike Saenz, Michael Netzer, Chris Achilleos and a several others. It's a shame that they aren't appreciated and valued more widely in Australia, I get the impression that they are still much in demand in the US - I've seen how much such portfolios by Frazetta go for, admittedly he's the holy grail of such items.
Thanks youtube.com/@charliedogg7683, ROM has a special place in my heart and yes, it screams late 1970s; glad it is your favourite too! That letter from Tharg The Mighty and the 2000AD droids is something special, it's a great idea to consider getting it framed. Your portfolio collection sounds impressive, wish I had some of those especially the one by Mike Ploog. For now I'll have to do with seeking out the remaining Sal Quartuccio Production Marvel portfolios by Fastner and Larson. You've scared me with the Frank Frazetta portfolio; happy to settle for the Eerie and Creepy magazines.
Great video for those of us who weren't there. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much youtube.com/@thundergodd6086, glad you enjoyed it!
Dave. Those are both awesome figures. I love the ROM figure the most.
Thank you so much Jim (youtube.com/@diggerjim7202)! I'm glad you liked the figures, I agree, the ROM is my favourite (hence why I have 3 of those).
So cool thank you for sharing, it was great to see you again at the Comic-Con
Thanks youtube.com/@ @darrenford4957, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! It was awesome to see you at Heroes Con too.
Great job Dave! Was wonderful to meet you! Glad you got home safely!
Thanks Chris (you.tube.com/@thecomicvet), great to see you in person. Getting home safely is just the first step in my grand adventure, so stay tuned for more.
I've been going since the mid 90s. It' s surreal to see so many people on youtube going for the first time. Not surprised one bit everyone loves it.
Many thanks youtube.com/ @howlermouse. Woah, you're an OG at Heroes!
I would love to have gone through the boxes of b/w magazines, especially the Marvel ones like Monsters Unleashed and Vampire Tales. And even though I told myself that I wouldn't, I am starting to collect Warren titles too. Yet another area of collecting now opening up to me..... I saw that Space: 1999 comic, one of my favourite SF shows from the 70s. Great range of Bronze Age books David.
Cheers youtube.com/@charliedogg7683. I loved going through the old Warren and Marvel magazine titles, glad to hear you on that train too now. I was tempted by that Space:1999 magazine and have been watching them live streamed on youtube.com/@ShoutStudios.
@@StillOnly35c So have I, stumbled on the channel earlier this month.
Good evening David Well that was a treat, some of the sellers could have dine with a full bag of happy moments. But I did notice the guys from Pop Culture playground, they have featured on Comics Den show. They put on theDeLand comic show in Florida, and have sales from their storage lockers, Juicy looking stuff, Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Thanks as always Al (youtube.com/@alancarr7718). Pop Culture Playground was my favourite of the dealers there to be honest and I ended up picking up that CGC 8.0 of Creepy Issue 1 from them.
did some research. found out it was in charlotte, nc.
Yep! Planning a trip next year?
where is Heroes Con?
It’s here in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Charlotte NC, but I saw you found that out. Hopefully you can make it next year.
@@StillOnly35c you know, I think I will go. And I will stay overnight and do two days.
Beautiful books, had a bunch of these growing up when I lived in the UK. Excellent video!
Glad you enjoyed the video and the books youtube.com/@SondicoDenann. Stay tuned, more 2000AD videos to come.
Awesome books all around!! Really enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing! Nice pick ups!
Thanks for the compliment youtube.com/@dbulls33. Loved the show and all of the great books, just wish I had more time to dig. I did get another pickup that I saw on another TH-camr's video and contacted the dealer post show, stay tuned for that one.
This is why I love shopping Cons! Great finds and interesting stories.
So good to see you in person youtube.com/@bubsworld181. Yeah, this is exactly why cons are excellent; can;t wait for SDCC and catching up again at Heroes Con 2025.
Love the Our Love book but he was asking an insane price for it. Nice grab with the Monsters of Frankenstein
Thanks Chuck (youtube.com/@chuchhensey6989), I was tempted for the Our Love Story book and as mentioned it was the only one I found at the show; but you were right, it was too rich for my taste and was around an 8.5/9.0 grade. Looking for something higher.
Told you it was Wilson and not Lieber.
You were so right youtube.com/@shadowman8786; really helped me out there, thanks for info and support. I now need to update all the databases online which still credit Larry Lieber.
Great POV footage. What camera are you using? I want to go back!
Thansk Brian (youtube.com/@brianLCS), so good to see you in person. The camera was an Insta360 X3. Sadly I had a lense protector on it which had the lights reflecting, but footage will be improved on future hunts as removed it. Going to try it out at a local comic fair this weekend. Stay tuned for that.
Wonderful 2000AD lot. Did you find out what "paper lift" meant in the Grader's notes? Thanks!
Thanks Phil (youtube.com/@philcamacho127). Found details on Paper Lift defiition in the The Official CGC Guide to Grading Comics (www.cgccomics.com/news/article/10586/cgc-guide-grading-comics-nelson/). According to the book, It is "the loss of paper and ink from a top surface of a cover, occuring whne the cover has stuck to anothersurface and pulled appart, or when a foriegn substance has stuck to the cover and was mechanically removed. Extensive paper lift most often occurs when a stack of comics is exposed to moisture, causing the covers to stick to each other. Localised paper lift usually involves the removal of a substance, a sticker, or glue remnants. Paper lift occuring from tape is classified as tape pull." Seems that the tape removal lead to the paper lift designation.
I was fortunate enough to find 2 mint copies of DC Comics Presents 27 in a 2 dollar box at the show. The best boxes to look through are the ones on the floor that some people just don’t bother with because they’re on the floor!
Compliments youtube.com/@thecomicdrill on those two DC Comics Presents 27, what a find. Wish I had more time to dig deep on some of those hidden floor boxes; thats a great tip.
Great coverage! Is that with the Insta360 camera? Additionally, can I buy some stickers and a "Still Only 35 Cents" shirt? 😅
Thanks youtube.com/@othermike. Yes, it was Insta360, my first time using it. No need to buy stickers, I'll be giving them away at future cons; also if you send me a DM on your address on IG I'll send you a couple. On the shirts, they'll be coming soon; we are working on them now.
Oh goodness David, I cringed when you pulled the Cloak & Dagger book out at ~ 15 min with the tape ends still on the bag...for that book at $15 not a big deal; have done that myself and not a problem if you're careful as you were, but way, way back in the day at a show I saw an AF #15 pulled out that way and it ended up with a tape tear to the cover! Congrats on all the good finds!
Thanks youtube.com/@papasdino. On examining the book, I wondered if anyone would pick up on that even though I was being very careful. As you mentioned, not something I would do with a super expensive book as I've had the occasional mishap myself.
Watched this in 4k on my laptop and OMG gave me a moment of feeling like I as there.
That's amazing Cliff (youtube.com/@CliffordNY)! 4k really makes all the difference, doesn't it?
So when I was there I had Jim sign all the fury X-Men and cap books he did along with flag issue of strange tales
Thanks John (youtube.com/@johnedwards2051). I ended up not getting my books signed by Jim Steranko in the end and just submitted them for grading. My rationale was that I heard that Jim Steranko wasn't very gentle with books and thus I felt it would be too risky given they were so high grade. Will keep everyone posted on the results.
Just found you from seeing you in other heroes con videos. Funny how that happens. Just subbed. Wish I could have gone this year maybe next time! Looked like a fun time
Thanks for the sub and glad you enjoyed the video youtube.com/@MarcSpectorComics! Heroes was so much fun and hopefully you can make it next year.
No sign of Disney or Warner Brothers movie promotions. A true Comic Book Convention! I live here in Charlotte and can attest that this is the greatest in world!
Agreed Robert (youtube.com/@robertdelisi9473); it is the biggest and best true Comic Book Convention. Can't wait for next year.
I want to go back!
Agree, don't we all Brian (youtube.com/@brianlcs). Next year will be fun.
Thanks for having us on your show, @StillOnly35c it was great hanging out with you, Jim, and the chat!
Any time Ben (th-cam.com/users/BenParkerComics), it was my pleasure to have you both join and great conversation.
Nice variety in this video David, and I'm always interested in seeing the great creators of the Bronze and Copper Ages. A memoir by Shooter on his life in the industry would be fascinating, so many stories about so many people he's worked with.
Thanks as always Charlie (th-cam.com/users/charliedogg7683). Agreed on a Jim Shooter memoir, did you catch the youtube.com/@bronzeandmoderngods interview they did with him (th-cam.com/video/YyhF_i198eo/w-d-xo.html).
@@StillOnly35c Yes I did David, I always watch their interviews, great stuff.
Great guests Ben and Jim are good Guys. Great Stories, at least Steranko didn't call you guys fat
Thanks CJ! He did ask me if I have been working out since last year because my chest and shoulders looked bigger. I said the only workout I have been doing is 12oz curls (beer), and I’m just fat 😂
Spot on CJ (youtube.com/@comicjourney), I had a great time with Ben and Jim. Hopefully sometime I'll get your hands to do a guest appearance on the show.
Good afternoon David Great show. very entertaining, I shall look forward to watching Jim and Ben. Great to hear the war stories and see the haul. Awesome stuff! Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Thanks Al (th-cam.com/users/alancarr7718), we loved going through the books and always good to see what others are collecting. enjoy Jim and Ben's (he's new to TH-cam, but he's been on IG for a while).
One of my favorite writers/Artist and creator. Mr. Jim Starlin😊
Thanks youtube.com/@anthonythomasexperience), Jim is a true comic book legend and really nice guy (as you can see from the short).
Great post show hangout! 👌 I've throughly enjoyed your Heroes Con coverage! 🤘
Thanks so much youtube.com/@othermike; been a pleasure doing it, so glad you enjoyed it.
Looks a Great Con! Is it easy to get Tickets? And to Travel there? I’d be coming from the UK
Thanks youtube.com/@ShuggsComicsandStatues. Heroes is a fantastic con and my favourite of them all! In terms of attending, getting tickets is usually straightforward, just get in early would be my advise. As for travelling from the UK, it shouldn't be too complicated; you'll likely need to connect at another airport as I suspect they'll be very few direct flights.
@@StillOnly35c Many Thanks 🙂
You are correct sir…best comic con in the world. I’ve been going off and on for the last 30 years. No Hollywood celebrities just pure comic book goodness!
Thanks so much youtube.com/@thecomicdrill. Wow, 30 years going to Heroes Con, you must have an amazing stash of comic books!
Some truly desirable comics here David. And room to move! I imagined that it would be people crammed together but there was lots of space.
Hey youtube.com/@charliedogg7683, glad you enjoyed the video and walkthrough; yes indeed, there was some amazing books. This video was filmed when the show first opened to VIPs on Friday morning which is why it seemed a little quiet. Heroes Con was pretty crowded later in the afternoon and Saturday and Sunday, you can see some of that in my Day 3 Heroes comic hunting video.
Good meeting you. See ya next year!
Can't wait! It was great meeting you too youtube.com/@Psyren136! Looking forward to catching up again next year.
Looked like my collection at one time...sure I still have the Elfquest entire run and used to have a double run of Shield books...just a few still of those but couple copies of #7.
Thanks youtube.com/@donaldmiller9648 and sharing your Elfquest and Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. with us! It's amazing how our collections can hold so many memories and stories; I'm so stoked to find amazing high grades of all those books and getting the full collection. Getting them all signed by Wendy and Richard was my highlight of the show.
Thanks for taking us along!
No problem at all youtube.com/@papasdino, it's absolutely a pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it as always.
Good Morning David Thank you sir, I enjoyed the tour, it seems you had a fantastic time. Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Appreciated Al (youtube.com/@alancarr7718), had ablast and was glad I was able to take you all along on the journey.
Love that Nick collection! Thanks for the shoutout and looking forward to next year bud! :)
Thanks so much (youtube.com/@AComicBookworm) and for the interview (th-cam.com/video/O0hlNhSdWPk/w-d-xo.html). I'm glad you enjoyed the Nick Fury books! Looking forward to joining you on more videos, and getting togther next years in person again sharing more content next year.
Can't wait to see you again next year!
Totally Rob (youtube.com@robs.fatstax)! I'm sure I'll see you on the lives sometime until the next Heroes Con.
@@StillOnly35c without a doubt
Some pretty cool books in there, disappointing to not be able to encapsulate the larger books. We did meet at Baltimore CC at the Bronze & Modern Gods booth. Hope you have better success in future submissions!
Thanks Jim (@bronzevillecomics2581), I really enjoyed your recent video with the collection you purchased as well, there was some awesome hidden gems in there. I remember us meeting at Baltimore although I wasn't YouTubing at that point. Hopefully we'll catchup again soon at another show.
Incredible
Cheers youtube.com/@DJLINX, great to meet you in person. See you soon.
This came out amazing!
Glad you liked it Richard (youtube.com/@richardwestphal5184), I'm stoked with how it turned out, Mike Henderson did an amazing job.
Awesome!!!
Thanks youtube.com/@CZFS, your support especially means the world to me!
