Kings is an institution in Sydney, best memories as a kid was going to their Bathurst St store when they had their big sales and picking up boxes of sports cards.. It's a shame Comic Kingdom closed, another core childhood memory store

I used to love going to that massive Dymocks at lunch time looking for books, I wish I'd found this comic store. It's just not the same shopping online, I love a big store you can just wander around in.

Kings Comics was my comic store as a kid growing up in Sydney but it has moved to a far bigger and more impressive location since then! Wow! Nothing like that in Brisbane 😅

@StillOnly35c unfortunately only Comics Etc is left. We had 5 stores within the city at one stage! (the others were Daily Planet, Secret Identity Comics, Junky Comics and Ace Comics) we lost 80% of our comic stores within a few years. Even Comics Etc has gradually downsized their store over the years, but they're still awesome.
Great Video. Kings is where it all started for me back in the 1980's (different location of course) . This where I got Dark Night Returns and Watchmen issues as they came out. Still the highest standard for a comic book Store look and feel.

What do you mean grown? They used to spread across multiple stores. They had a Penrith, Moore Park and I think even a store in Manly? It looks nicer than it ever did
@@HobbyistaDownUnder yeah, I never been to Penrith, but back in the early 2000s when fox studios opened, they had a shop there. It was cool because it was open 24 hours. Samuel L Jackson and Nicolas cage would go there to buy comics in peace at around 2am. I never saw them, but been there a few times at more humane hours. The Manly one I only heard in passing a few years back. I don’t actually remember it existing at the time. I think them focusing on one store is the better move under today’s environment. But I don’t think any comic store is getting overall bigger today sadly.

Yep, that's what I was saying. That's the problem with a store that big. The rent alone means they have to WAY overcharge for everything to pay those bills. I was pausing to check prices, 3, 4x what you'd expect to pay. Why does anybody shop there?

Everytime I watch a TH-camr with a wall of comics and tons of lights all over them that's all I think abt, don't they know colors fade in bright lights?
The problem with a store like that is their prices are WAY too high! That Ghost Rider #1 2nd print CGC 9.6...$500?!?! It's on eBay right now for $99 or best offer! And those graded cards? The prices are nuts...like they just came up with numbers out of the thin air. If you're gonna buy a tpb for cover, then yeah, but back issues, graded, etc? No way.

Thanks for pointing that out William! As mentioned our prices are higher due to our prominent location and other costs involved in running a physical store. Some of the CGCs have dropped considerably since COVID and unfortunately we do miss some market changes. We have actioned a price reduction on this item. Enjoy your day! 🙂

Unfortunately not youtube.com/@ra1phe, that store closed around 8 years ago. Ironically, the new Kings Comics is located across the road from that old store. I went to Comic Kingdom just before they closed and it was a real treasure trove full of old back issues stacked up in short and long boxes; I spent a long afternoon (trying) to dig through those boxes. Sadly the owner had a real issue letting go of those books and was very strict in what boxes you could look through.

@@IamaNewCreatureI think Minotaur in Melbourne is bigger? I heard they made it smaller, but when I was there back in 2001 it was huge. Big enough to have an escalator inside it. I would say it would be comparable to forbidden planet in London.

As per the other comments, the flashing lights only showed up as I filmed at 60FPS and the lights refresh at a different frame rate. The original video was much worse throughout, but I have a tool that removed most of the flicker, but I can see how they might be a bit overwhelming!

Mate I grew up in Sydney and I've never heard of this place! Reminds me of when I used to go to HobbyCo in George St in the 80s when I made models.

it used to be in Pitt St years ago... it was a smaller store.... it changed location a fair while back.

Back in the day kings ran their own comic con called ozcon , that's where most of the people on the wall of fame appeared

Camera lenses pick up on the lights flickering like that but your eyes cannot. Same effect happens with older tvs too.
