The 4cyl version of the RX2 was called a Capella in Australia. There were three versions of the RX2, series 1, series 1B and series 2. Series 1had rectangle headlights with the interior door lock knobs at the front of the doors, 1B had lock knobs at the rear of the door and series 2 had Quad round headlights.

Very nice Mazda car. Owner put some TLC in that beauty.

Early 71 rx2 did come with coupe emblems on trunk

Super rare car! In '1972 Mazda sold the "618" which was the same as this but with a slightly larger 1800cc engine. I think the piston versions might be rarer than the rotaries.

Ah, the Saturn.. sorry: Moonlight yellow beauty. Thanks for posting! 👍Port door handles are 1971 specific on both 616 and Rx2 coupés. Same as the door cards. Same as blue C-post antelope badge. Color codes were YA Moonlight Yellow, YC Saturn Yellow, YG Flare Yellow.

Cool & informative👍 Question: if the eccentric shaft is polished beyond thee allowable tolerance, is there a bearing to compensate? In a conventional engine if a crankshaft needs to be cut, then there are both main and rod bearings to compensate the cut. Found this footage interesting!..thanx👍

Cool build. Very interested. I was a mazda tech back in the 1980s. How is this project going? It would be fun to wheel with you on the rubicon when you get this rolling. You suspension ideas and 40's so8nd good. I would focus in low end torque and crawl speed. Keep it NA. Don't bridge port it. As cool as that lope sounds, it won't be good for crawl. Maybe even no porting at all. You don't want to shift the power band higher in the rpm range. Use the heaviest flywheel you can find. Consider making a custom intake with long runners. Personally, I would also keep the exhaust longer. IIRC you want the collector closer to the header for lower end torque on a rotary. Shifting the collector reward (at least on a 2 rotor) shifts the power band higher in the rpm range too.

Very sanitary outcome there! Not sure on the Rx-4 trunk lid attachment, but my Rx-2's hinge part is factory spot-welded. Prior to me finding the OEM trunk seal, i used a universal seal. In doing so, it put stress on the spot-welds essentially having me weld them back in place. I too applied silicone for a good butting on the 2 ends, making it "air tight", thus extra tight upon closing the trunk. Ended up making pin-holes to exhaust the trapped air. Not sure if that might be the case w/ yours. But just a heads-up. Again, great looking outcome! 👍👍

Holley blue pumps are horrible for cabin noise, try a Carter gold fuel pump with your set up, a lot quieter during operation.

The fuel cap sits inside the prongs on the fuel door/flap, not by the prongs on the fuel cap.

No problems to check out the fuel gauge on a RX4, just drive around for an hour and you see it goes down from full to totally empty. Mazda had to reduce the size of the gauge to a minimum, otherwise the potential customers would have noticed the the needle dropping down to bottom faster than a bullet from a gun 😁

Now that is an experience I would love to have. Lucky you. 😊 Its hard for me to pick between this car and the fd rx7 as the best designed rotary purely for the look. There is something about 60s design, the muira, xke jaguar, mustang, series 2 corvette, etc. I personally rate the 60s as the best car design era. Thanks for sharing, hopefully we will see more of this car😊

Hi Naz is it running on both rotors and I dint know it had the japanese speaking system like the newer Cosmos .
