    Great examples, especially the second 2 which are so common, they seem “normal.” Years ago my trainer said open the angles like a windshield wiper- fluid full opening. Don’t know why that clicked in my brain but it immediately helped my lower leg. So many saddles work against us nowadays. I miss having a flatter saddle without knee and thigh blocks. I’d use my childhood saddle except it’s channel is to narrow for the horse. I don’t really want to ride in a car seat 😬

    Flat of Thigh. Certain riders seem glued to the horse thru their seat and thighs. We've all heard about having the flat of your thigh against the saddle. Now, if you focus on the last third of the thigh before the knee, you'll notice that the flat part of the thigh against the saddle really requires the top of your leg to rotate inward quite a bit. I'm thinking that if you do this, point your knees to the ground as much as possible and then "squat" down with your buttocks area, it's possible to get that glued to the horse feel. The huge advantage of this is that you can now get rid of the anxiety, especially the anxiety from your upper body and gripping with the lower. It is a light hug with the thighs and a relaxed, deep seat with a toned core. Pick up the underneath of your thigh and pulling it around helps find the position too. This rotated thigh in the hip joint also helps your foot to point straight ahead (so relaxing your heels doesn't cause them to come in towards the horse but rather stays in alignment). Johanna, do you agree with this? Or maybe partially agree with suggested changes? I want to be able to have my horse spin underneath me and I automatically spin too, causing my arm to go out like an ice skater - that much connection so I can tone and feel the rest of my body.

    • @johannajequestrianphysio
      @johannajequestrianphysio 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sounds very good if it works for you! Each rider-horse-saddle combination is different and I sometimes get riders that just cannot rotate the thigh inward that much and really complain because their trainers are insisting they have to🤷‍♀

    Great advice. Standing while on the trot is probably the best exercise to do in order to develop a stable lower leg and an independent seat. It also teaches NOT to use the reins to hold your weight. I started with 5 second stands, now I can do the entire lesson standing in the trot, walk, canter, jumps with minimal sitting.
