Thanks for the insight into all the overhead costs involved in owner operator. Keep that old Freightliner healthy and run her as long as you can. Newer truck is nice but weighing the cost is so important if you want to maximize income. Keep it fun and every day will be rewarding.

Do you have a video where you talk more about your truck? What year is it? When did you get it and what did you pay? Also, why did you choose to get an older truck specifically? Or was it just good timing or something?

Those are some good goals for trucking and health wise. I’m 22 and have been trucking for 4 years with the goal of buying a truck and I’m starting to put some pieces together to hopefully do that soon. If those guys leave for harvest that’ll be a great opportunity to run hard and reach your goals!

After 3 eye surgeries in the last 5 months the first goal is get back to making a living. Been doing intermodal over 20 years and trying to get back to dry van. Tired of fighting equipment that isn’t road worthy nothing but junk. Found a company that has some local stuff just hoping and praying that it all works out.

In my area of southern Ohio the Loves is the cleanest and lower fuel price. The T/A’s have went down hill around here old and dirty. I would push my truck before buying fuel at Pilot after they ripped off all those owner operators a few years ago. I know let it go but no they can rip off the mega carriers.

You don’t understand that it’s not the brokers. . It’s the US Govt. Notice how companies are paying $30-$40 an hour now . They are making Owner operators company drivers. How is a Load $1 a mile and 1 blown truck tire is $500-$1000. Insurance is $1300 a month . To profit $2000 a week you have to have to drive 4000 miles while company drivers run 700 miles a week and make $2000 a week. Makes no sense.

If your jobs are 100-150 miles each and you’re only doing about 2 a day or so, I don’t know how the hell you’re making it. 2 150 mile trips is only 600 bucks. Hats off to you brother if you’re making that work. I’d never get ahead.

How do you log your day? You should explain how you keep track of miles and fuel receipts, and how much time you spend after driving off duty taking care of paper work

My wife and I have been up in your area the past few days, picked up in Boone out to Orange City, now off for the weekend. Was going to comment how great driving around Iowa was, best most relaxing driving I’ve had in months… parked for the night here in Williams at the flying J and the guy next to us decided to pull out of his spot like no one was next to him and ripped off half the passenger side of my truck.. just ridiculous driving, empty wide open lot, and had no remorse, sat in his cab laughing at the situation.

Bubba, from IRDC I’ve watched them all, and put my 2 cents in as well. Seeing this on July 12th. Just back from ANOTHER 3 weeks off. Hell of a year so far… Transmission, engine, vacation & 3 surgeries for the wife’s eye. (She now thinks she’s married to Brad Pitt’s twin! She can’t see the difference!)😂😂 Life just keeps rolling on!
