The War Between Finland And Germany
The Lapland War was the final war Finland ever had, after The Winter War and The Continuation War. While these wars before The Lapland War were primarily against The Soviet Union, this time it’s different. This time, it was a war against Germany, which may be confusing given that Germany and Finland were allied previously. In this video I will talk about the things leading up to the war, and the war itself.
Enjoy the video!

Why is Vojvodina Autonomous?
มุมมอง 65K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Vojvodina is a region in Serbia, which basically encompasses Northern Serbia. Through the years, there’s been many attempts of independence and revolt in the general area of Vojvodina. This is partly the reason to its autonomy. The other reasons are covered in this video. Enjoy the video! History Of The Danish Colonies
มุมมอง 60K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Denmark is a rather small country in Europe, known for its vikings. It may surprise you that the country had an empire during the viking age. However, this was not the only ‘empire’ Denmark had. Throughout its history it has had colonies and territories in England, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, India, The Gold Coast and The West Indies. Hope you enjoy! Twitter: ...
The Short-lived Country of Central America
มุมมอง 15K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Federal Republic of Central America was a country that consisted of modern-day Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala the Mexican province Chiapas, which was a country in the time of 1823 - 1840. The country was in bad shape when it got independent in 1821, and later got absorbed by Mexico. After becoming independent, the country lost Costa Rica and Chiapas, but that was on...

2:37 As in any other video too, Finland's geopolitical situation is fully ignored. Take a look at the map in June 1941. Make sure you look at the whole Nordic and Baltic Sea region. Germany had occupied Norway and Denmark. Sweden did not want to participate in the upcoming war in any way. Finland had no land or sea route to other countries. They were completely surrounded by the Soviets and the Nazis, and they were well aware that their country was a about to become a battleground. As a free and democratic country Finland was more than willing to have a treaty with Great Britain and France *before* they had completely failed to help Poland or other countries or even themselves. Yes, the Finns were bitter for losing their second biggest city (Viipuri) and for having to evacuate over 10% of population elsewhere. But it is a huge oversimplification to say it was just about getting their land back. Many Finnish leaders did not believe in victory, not even in 1941 and certainly never later since the main objectives of Operation Barbarossa were not achieved in time. Despite Hitler's demands and threats Finland refused to cut the Murmansk railroad which was very vital to the whole Soviet Union. They also refused to bomb Leningrad. The Finnish government had a very careful approach in this matter. This was well known at the time. The Western Allies understood that Finland was in the worst possible situation and USA even maintained diplomatic relations to get them out of the war. The Finns were even so desperate that they suggested the UK and USA to make a landing in Lapland. This was naturally refused by them because Finland was not willing to surrender to the Soviet Union. Finland was allowed to keep its independence because they withdrew from the war at the right moment and drove the Germans away.

"After the defeat of our army, Stalin lost his nerve" (Nikita Khrushchev, Liaison between Stalin and his generals). In 1944, all the nine (9)attempted breakthroughs failed - of one of them it says, "Red army failed to break through Finnish defences", and "some of the attackers managed to escape back to East". In one of the decisive battles (Tali/Ihantala), the Soviets lost 300 tanks in ONE DAY! Stalin gave up; the price was too high; also, he wanted to get to Berlin before the Allied; hence his coming to the negotiation table. Keeping in mind here; the orders to Red Army were very clear in 1944: "Brute and total occupation of Finland." "In Helsinki in a fortnight!" (Molotov). "In Helsinki by Stalin's birthday" - 18.12.1939 (Meretzikov). Alas! no Soviet boot trambled the streets Helsinki in 1939, not in 1944 (one of a few cities of Europe that was not overun by enemy forces). Ps. correction - Finland lost 25 000 dead in the Winter war, and 75 000 during the Continuation war.

My neighbour was from Finland, and was living there when the Ussr attacked. She saw her mother murdered by Soviet troops in cold blood. She was only about 10 years old at the time. It really messed her up. She passed away several years ago, but she was still very much screwed up over seeing that until she died. 😢

Okay but if we're being 100% honest Poland really was asking for it. Poland should have pandered to Russia and Germany if they didn't want to have war. They thought because they had big and bad friends like Britain and France that they could do whatever they want and completely disregard the opinions of the two bigger dogs next to them. It wouldn't have been that hard for Poland to give back the Western Prussian corridor.

You're implicitly justifying so many wars right now. "Ukraine was asking for it - They shouldve just given Donetsk and Luhansk!" "Finland was asking for it - They shouldve given up their border territories from the getgo" "France was asking for it - They shouldve just given Alsace-Lorraine to Germany (1870)"

  • @KennyT187
    @KennyT187 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's always funny when people claim that Finland "lost" the winter war. Stalin thought he was going to annex whole of Finland in just 2 weeks. He was never just trying to "adjust the borders" - that was his Casus Belli alongside the false flag attack in Mainila - his plan was to take it all from the start - or do you think he sent up to 760,000 soldiers to just "adjust the borders"? Hence, the result of the "Moscow Peace Treaty" can be seen as a defensive victory for Finland - we kept our independence unlike the Baltic and other East-European countries which became Soviet puppet states.

you are spreading fake news. 22th june 1941 soviet union 6.05 o'clock started hostilities from their occupied Hanko base. Finland witheld from retaliating till 25th when soviet union started air bombing Helsinki. Finland did not start a war against Soviet union.

Funny how Germany was doing Operation Barbarosa on Soviet Union, but Germany and Soviet Union actually co-operated to invade Finland, and somehow two of the greatest powers in WW2 failed to take on a surrrounded, small, and "kinda weak" country.
