    I think that the only protection from rats and other varmints chewing on cables would be a garage with a cement floor. It would cost a lot no doubt but I don't see another solution. On the plus side, it would protect the paint job, tires and everything else from the rain and sun. $700 for towing sounds about like what I have heard of for the longer distances and more difficult scenarios. An easy tow in the city for just 5 miles cost me $85. Cost of living has gone up a lot, any type of work costs double now what it did before the pandemic. Hope you post more videos, I reached this last one this morning. I will check out some of your recommended channels as well. I posted on Reddit in \PovertyFIRE about your channel a few days ago, perhaps that gave it a little bump. FIRE means Financial Independence, Retire Early.

    Here's a comment from Wrong Planet: "The old hermit gets better and better, the more videos I watch of his. I think he is really warming up as he goes along. Watching from oldest ----> newest. Most annoying thing about TH-cam is that at the end of his video, the site proceeds to a different channel, which is invariably annoying and totally antithetical to everything that old hermit stands for. If I tune into a channel, it is because I want to watch THAT channel. There is no setting I know of on TH-cam to change this behavior."

      @@wildernesshermit I seldom tune in to TH-cam at all, and when I do, I know exactly who and what I want to watch, and it is nothing but that. Perhaps most people are different and just surf from channel to channel and prefer variety. At any rate, there is no setting I can find on TH-cam to quit proceeding to a random channel. I like your channel a lot, because you have a lot of good advice that makes sense and make the case for moderation and common sense. I am watching from oldest --> newest to take in everything in order, and usually watch 1-2 videos per day since it was recommended on Wrong Planet. Specific question (that may get answered later in a video you have already made) is: what do you eat? This is a huge problem if you are in a remote area, it seems to me that nutrition might be limited to canned foods. What is your opinion on the need for fresh fruits and vegetables, which we are told in the media is important for health? Also, do you exercise? What is your contingency plan if there is a medical emergency? I know these are difficult questions, hope you don't mind. I was trying to envision myself living like that out in the boonies, I think I would probably prefer a small town, however I think it is a very interesting lifestyle that used to be commonplace among our ancestors.

    • @wildernesshermit
      @wildernesshermit 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there Rainbows, Those are excellent questions and I welcome them. I've done a few videos on the "Realities" of remote off grid living. It requires a strong conviction in order to deal with many thing often taken for granted in populated urban areas. Our closet food sources, 14 miles down the mountain, are a small mom and pop grocery store and a recently built Family Dollar store. The selection is limited and often sold out. Rice, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, eggs, chicken, canned fruit (on rare occasions fresh) yogurt and frozen vegetables. We are in a vast food desert but do surprisingly well if you keep a cheerful "Take what you can get" mindset. Medical emergencies and healthcare are a crap shoot. The bottom line is simply knowing that you rely on yourself and continued blessing from the mystical Divine Province. But isn't that the truth wherever one lives.

    "Don't Know" is good advice. I find advantages to adopting an open mind to people, places and ideas. In this manner, it is possible to make friends and avoid enemies, and adapt better to change. I still think it is important to Know yourself. Certainly Wildnress Hermit seems to know himself. I think you cannot escape knowing yourself if you live in solitude for nine years.

    Hello hermit. There's no doubt you were referring to MORR, just across the border in Utah, where the World Largest Off-Road Wrecker resides. Since you say you are a subscriber, you ought to know 1) that they don't charge for recovery if you agree to let them put the recovery on their channel, 2) their rollback does a lot of work on the roads so it is not suited to off-road, 3) they have a fleet of vehicles that is unmatched in the off-road recovery business and can recover everything from a dirty bike to a semi truck and trailer, 4) they are also capable of doing trail repairs that allow customers to drive out on their own, saving lots of time and money. Whoever you ended up paying for your recovery probably charged you a fair price for off-road service. It ain't cheap; and you should be prepared for that in the wilderness. How much do you think a life-emergency helicopter ride costs when you rumble that pickup off the trail. Your insurance and a second mortgage won't cover it. BTW, you have seen that MORR is currently building an off-road rollback (though it is for SxS and Rzr recoveries, primarily and not big enough for Jeeps and pickups. Stay safe out there. Don't drink untreated water, lol.✌️

So, i'm back on the road but it was a workout to replace the battery in my gen 9 Impala. CURSE you GM. Oh, I am now carring a little Harbor Freight, "Viking" jump starter pack in the trunk.

They film for a year or so have their models actors staff etc sign MDA s then put out a few videos pay to push them if they take off,. they do another year of production. Vanlife, Offgrid, Travel, etc... they produce all kinds of channels they tend to go for what ever is hot ... at the time, use the current trend to suck up their material in it's wake...
