Storybrooke Family Farm
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 ก.พ. 2023
Storybrooke Family Farm is lovingly owned and operated by Lindsay and Tracy. Together they strive to achieve a significant degree of self-sufficiency, within reason (no one wants to make their own toilet paper). They are enamored by using creativity to construct a life that is frugal, resourceful, sustainable and most of all, beautiful.
From gardening, to cooking, to animal husbandry, to furniture building; this channel showcases exactly what homesteading and intentional living is really about.

Thank you for this video! We are starting to think about chickens and think Bantams or the Bantem Crosses probably are better than full size standards. Could you do a video talking about the crosses you have, if you bought a cross at the start or started with a fullsize and did the first cross to a full bantam? I'd like to know a little more about their coop since I think I saw you did a mobile coop? How about wintering and how you choose to insulate and what you do with the coop in the cold season? I am up in Maine so trying to find as much information as I can now because next year is the year I think getting started with them would be good. Oh, and what time of year would you say is the best time to start? I'd assume it would be when the days are consistently in the 50's or 60s to bring a new flock to a property.
Good PSA. Before buying plants from a greenhouse I’ll check here.
I'm glad it was helpful :)
Thank goodness he’s in driver’s ed. Not driving my boys around really freed up my time. Of course your car will often be gone as soon as he gets a license but better than driving him around every day.
Oh absolutely! Playing moms taxi service gets old quickly!
Such an encouraging post. It really spoke to me. Thank you.
You're welcome! ❤️
How often do you let the eggs hatch as opposed to using them for food? Do you just hatch as many as you are comfortable raising and then eat the rest as eggs? Sorry, but I don’t know anything about this stuff.
No need to apologize, I was new to this lifestyle once too. When one of our chickens go broody, which just means their hormones tell them it's time to hatch out eggs, we give them about 4-6 eggs that we mark with a permanent marker so we can tell which ones are meant to be left, and which to collect. Other hens will lay an egg under a broody egg so their genes can get passed down back into the flock. For the most part, chickens will hatch out any type of egg while broody, even if it's a duck or turkey egg. Back when we first started raising birds, we tried to get our hens to stop being broody, but we were never able to get them to stop trying to hatch out eggs. Chickens can be very, very stubborn, especially when hormones are involved lol. In short, we try to only let a hen have a handful of eggs when broody. If they end up with a whole slew of eggs, then it can be hard for them to keep all of them adequately warm, so it's harder for them to successfully hatch out viable babies. Our more experienced hens get more eggs since they already know what to do and how to properly raise chicks. When we don't have broody hens, we eat all the eggs and use those time periods of abundance to freeze eggs for winter use
That's a very large garden. Do you handle that mostly by yourself, or does your wife help you a lot, and does your son help you a bunch? Cause that's a lot.
My wife, Tracy, helps some during the big harvest season and a little when it comes to starting seeds. Our teenage son has no interest or desire in the homesteading lifestyle, so it's mainly just our own adventure. Tracy works outside of the home to pay for the majority of bills. I treat the homestead as my full-time job, so most of the activities are mine to do on a solo basis
I love picking fruit when there can be "one for me and one for the bucket" :)
That's the most enjoyable way to do it! :)
Aqua and gray should work well together. Can't wait to see the finished result.
Thanks!
Car problems are the worst. Sorry about that. Seems like anywhere you go to get a new one everyone wants to upsale you too. I hate car shopping.

Yes! So great that you had that flash-back and epiphany. 💜💙💚💫 Sometimes we are so caught up in how far we have to go, that we lose sight of how incredibly far we have come. Such a satisfying place to be... appreciating our inner growth and our building resilience... to find Joy in just how we are... in the Now. So happy for you. and Hello beautiful OldTree. 🌳🌈
It's been a hard journey this past year trying to stay present while being constantly flooded with visions of the past and dreams of what the future can hold. Thankfully, old trees like this one can help ground me and place things into better perspective. There is magic in elder trees such as this one ❤️
From beginning to end, I 100% understand, feel, and know everything you said here! I needed this video today, so thank you. ❤

Perhaps if you do another video on this topic you could show some of your garden (once it's growing).
Thank you for the suggestion! I will be sure to do a video on this in the future!
My wife and son has eds. I feel for you! I do all the gardening. 😊. Be well!
Thank you!
Thankful for your honest, heartful sharing. I'm an old RN just learning about all of this at 70, but it helps me understand why I had so, so many problems my whole life, and now. As nurses we study only a paragraph in nursing school about it, but in my 44 yrs I never saw EDS treated as a real clinical issue, or differential diagnosis to be considered for this huge population of chronic pain/disability. I was even told that I was lying about my back pain because I'm flexible, etcetc. It's only been the Physical Therapists who have educated me and legitimized all these constant issues. Wishing you the best! Thanks
A Physical Therapist was actually who first brought EDS to my attention! It's unfortunate how many medical professionals, including specialists, that I've had to educate about EDS. I hope that one day, this condition will be more easily recognized and diagnosed
Yuck icky pooopie on the garden
Good thinking, looking how God plants.
When in doubt, mimic what's already happening :)
Thinking outside the box.
Sometimes being creative is necessary :)
You are my new favorite homesteader! If you couldn't tell from all my comments this morning. LOL LOVE your honesty. I'm with you I have been feeling a little burnt out the last few days but I wouldn't change it for the world. Edit: My favorite is the homesteading videos where the women milk goats in a freaking sundress.... I mean come on now. 🧐
Aww ❤️ I'm so glad you are enjoying my content!
@@storybrookefamilyfarm ❤
Thank you for sharing your story. My children have EDS and they all 3 experience lots of pain and have some issue that you talked about. Its a relief to hear you speak of some of the things that cause you issues, because now I can understand what and maybe why my children are feeling the pain. My daughter always wakes up complaining of severe pain from sleeping wrong. They may walk the wrong way, or trip and have dislocated joints. My son is the one that is suffering the most with the pain and I haven't found a doctor who will treat his pain yet. They have to do online schooling because of how much it affects them. I feel judged and shamed at their school because they make comments or remarks hinting that I am exaggerating their pain and physical mobility issues. If only they really knew what we endure daily. It's rough. Thanks again for sharing and I'm so happy that you finally got validation. Now you can stick your middle finger up at all those people who made you feel crazy! Stay strong. Sorry to talk so much. I'm just so happy I came across your video. I'm going to share with my children so they can see they are not alone.
I'm sorry that they are all struggling so much. One of the best things I've learned to do is to try to treat what is causing the pain, instead of the pain itself. It might be difficult to find a Physical Therapist in your area that has experience with EDS or hypermobility, but it is so worth it. Keeping the stabilizing muscles in my body strong has made a world of difference in for my joints. It's a bit long to explain in a comment, but basically, in a hypermobile body, the muscles try to pick up the slack from the tendons and ligaments. The stronger the stabilizing muscles are, the more they can compensate for the weakness of the tendons and ligaments. Staying active has honestly changed my life. I still suffer from a lot of the issues your children do, but I've noticed it's easier for me to walk now without my hip randomly popping out of place, I don't have quite as many sleep injuries, and I've developed a lot better sense of balance, resulting in less injuries from tripping/falling. It's hard having a lifelong invisible illness, but it makes it easier when there is someone supporting, advocating, and looking out for your best interests. I'm glad your children have you in their corner ❤️
Try a rheumatologist. They usually are the ones who accidentally end up diagnosing eds. It’s worth a shot. Here in Minnesota the Mayo-Clinic has only 2 docs that travel to Minneapolis and St. Paul for eds issues.
One awesome homesteader
Thanks!
Great view!
Thank you!
Lots of good ideas. 💜💚💙💫
❤️
it seems building in automation and having more people on your team would essential
One thing to consider with having more people to help is that it requires more food to sustain everyone. Feeding a smaller number of people is obviously going to require a lot less land, resources, and energy than feeding a larger group. Whether you have 2 people, or 10 people on your homestead, it is crucial to try to be as efficient as possible with your time and energy.
Thank you so much for your honesty. I will definitely take this all into consideration.
You're welcome! Homesteading is a labor of love that provides nourishment for the body and the soul :)
uhhhh ngmi
Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, no matter what a stranger on the internet has to say ❤️
@@storybrookefamilyfarm can I have chickens ?
@@DyTile chickens are pretty easy to take care of :)
@@storybrookefamilyfarm do you have some y’all take care of ?
@DyTile yes, we raise Bantam chickens, so they are much smaller, quieter, and cheaper than having full sized chickens. They require about 1/3 of the space and feed as a full sized bird, making them perfect for raising in a smaller place and on a budget
SO TRUE! This is the BEST DESCRIPTION of the REALITY of HOMESTEADING that I've ever seen and heard. It takes a lot of work to set-up and maintain a homestead. I HOPE A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCH THIS VIDEO. Brava ! Well done. 💜💙💚💫

“Plant like you are never going to leave.” That’s actually a very profound statement that’s relative to every aspect of one’s life.
I'm so glad you pointed that out!
Gross critter you are
Sometimes we don’t notice the progress when we’re in the middle of it
That's for sure
Yay! So great for you, to hear that from a stranger. Sometimes we are too close to our projects to notice the overall progress. You beauty! Glad to see that sparkle in your joyful eye again. 💜💙💚💫

It is nice to have an objective opinion like that, reinforce that you have done a fantastic job working on this place. Blessings.
Thank you
Wise words. The learning is just as important as actually producing food.
Yes it is
You seem happier already
Thanks, I feel a lot happier now knowing I won't be weighed down by so many burdens
Looks like a good spot to read a book!
It would be a fantastic place to do that!
I love you expressing yourself, your talking about your personal beliefs really resonates with me and I appreciate the openness! I’m looking forward to your second channel too ❤
Thank you, I'm excited to see you over there and to have your support in both places!
I'm also baking my own bread. But that started when it turned out that I had to go gluten free. Gluten free bread is 10 USD/kg in my country. Gluten free floor is 5USD/kg, so I get it half price, if I bake it myself. And the fresh home made bread smells / tastes so good :) I have a very small garden with 3 raised beds where I grow tomatoes, egg plants, zukinies. Probably my neigbours thinks I'm stupid. I want to move a more vilage like place, with much bigger garden.
With baking the bread yourself instead of buying it, you are also able to know exactly what goes into the bread too, which to me, is a huge added bonus. Keep on dreaming for what you want! I'll be hoping you are able to get there! ❤️
Do you have fence arround your 2 acres? You're explaining well...
I have it partially fenced in on 2 sides. It's only done as a deterrent for our turkeys. They like to wander lol
Wonderful idea! It's a pleasure to see you blossoming. Great intro on your new channel. I'm getting to feel really familiar with your Beautiful Old TreeFriend. Cheers!
Thanks for joining along!

I absolutely understand being bullied. School was not always a good experience. I had some friends. But there was a group of people who always made fun of me. I am myself, and that bothers people who aren't. I think it's awesome that you can maintain seeing the good in everyone. I think my experiences have made me more on guard about people. I've had a lot of experiences where I am, with feeling taken advantage of. We started to fix up a second mobile home in the park we are in, and ran into electrical stuff I wasn't capable of fixing. My husband never liked the energy of the place. We allowed someone to move in, and pay us at a later date. We were shorted $1,000 that I will never see. And someone I've handed money, food, and children's clothing over to...many times, is now hanging out with her. When I am being taken advantage of, I have the tendency not see the good, and want to protect and isolate myself. We have also dealt with theft, broken things and windows shot at with a BB gun, by unsupervised children. So, I need to move somewhere with not a lot of neighbors. I crave community. But with like-minded people. My husband is very good at only seeing the good in people. I've been told my guides are fairies
❤❤❤

Blue and green are tied for my favorites. I am especially drawn towards colors that are a mix of the 2
