Farm Fencing Hack When Rotational Grazing
Those plastic posts were never designed for corner post tension. Never.
I have a Mahindra tractor and the rear rims are solid. Is there another way for something like this?
I would hate to give you bad advice but if I was in your situation I would get a tow strap and wrap around the entire tractor and ratchet strap it down with the 4x4. Also, make sure when you ease it out of the hole you press in your differential so both wheels turn. Don't know your exact situation but I would have used this method in the video if I didnt' have holes. Just watch to make sure you don't bring 4x4 all the way around. I have had one person come back and say they used a 10 foot 4x4 and put parallel across for both tires and did this. Just a thought. I see your Marine logo - Thank you for your service. I'm former Navy and appreciate you serving this beautiful country. Have a great week.
@@StewartFarmApiary Thanks brother for your service as well. I am having difficulty understanding what you wrote about wrapping the entire tractor and with a tow strap with the 4x4. Sorry for the Marine coming out. I'm a fairly new tractor owner and I got stuck this last Sunday and its was a BEAR!
@@gregharper7075 No worries - its hard to explain. Ive only seen it done and not tried it myself. Another way to help get unstuck that I used before this method is also just strap a heavy duty come along to a tree or another tractor and use the strength of the come along to at minimal get it out or hold where you have been able to move it. Use in conjunction with a few 4x4 that are not chained to tire but more of just a gripping mechanism for the tire.
Can you clarify about the tow strap and 4x4? If not, I hope to see the video in the near future.
@@gregharper7075 Ill try to do a video soon.
Precise, clear, and energetic instructions and demonstration, very useful! I have a Pakistani mulberry tree, which I got as a gift from my friend about a year ago. It is tall, thin and has part of its trunk bare with a heavy leafy top, like a mop. It is June, and it's very hot in Florida now. Can I cut the top off now or wait till winter? I would like to keep it short. I hate hurting this tree, though😢
If I were you I would get a few one gallon nursery containers and fill with dirt. cut the tree to the desired height ( just above a node) and then make numerous cuttings and put in soil. That way you have the height you want ( and it will bush out) and you can give the clippings to friends. Hope this helps. have a great week
@@StewartFarmApiary Thanks a lot for advice!
@@Chrachrach glad to help
Most likely they haven’t seen the price of it energizer have you seen the price on those? And you can’t cheap out on the energizer because it seems like it never supplies enough power.
Gallagher has a decent charger for the price. I have one that I use for rotational grazing. But yes, in general they are pricey. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great week.
Thank you for this video, answered my question of if the poppy seed pod can ripen off the plant!
You are very welcome. Thank you for the feedback.

This video helped me get my tractor out of the mud today. Gathered up everything I needed and worked as described. Thank you for making this excellent video with all the perfect warnings. Helped me out big time this evening! 💰Advice
You are very welcome. I am always so happy to hear that I have helped someone. Have a great week - glad your tractor is unstuck.
Because it's more nutritious before it seeds out.....
True, but managing the fields and livestock properly and having enough forage allows for that not to be an issue. Thank you for the feedback. Have a great day.
Thanks for that very informative video . I am deffinitly going to try this . Just have a couple questions ......1 how long do we keep air rating the manure tea for after we add molasses ? 2 do we dilute the tea when we water our plants with it ? thanks so much ;)
Thank you for the feedback. 1. I will bubble for a few hours at the most after the molasses. It doesn't take long to get it integrated. 2. You do not need to dilute the tea at all. I put it directly on the pasture or plants. I hope this helps. Thanks for the great questions.
Thank u
@@radhanadevi You are very welcome.
Thanks for posting these vids - am going to be using a hand spreader to try out some plantain and chicory in our pastures. It is worth watching some recent vids with Dr Christine Jones - mind blowing stuff about soil biology and how you can maximise your mixed species pastures. The future is diversity.
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, she is brilliant. I also would recommend Gabe Brown and his business partner Alan Williams. Both are brilliant but I get to chat some with Alan because he is in the Mississippi State University region. Still lots to learn but with patience it is a great process. I would recommend looking at some summer legumes ( cowpeas, soybeans). So many people just want to throw clover down in the fall and there are so many options available. High in protein as well for the animals. Have a great week.
@@StewartFarmApiarythat’s awesome you have listened to her. I am getting to gabe brown - so many people doing very innovative things. I am in Australia so am going to be planting at spring. Am wondering how much land did you spread your seed onto - I figure you need a lot more seed for spreading as opposed to drilling.
@@misacarter5128 Great question - I put down about 50 pounds per acre. I don't really look at a certain seed in particular as much as just the "50 pounds per acre". So to make sense of that I do a mix of numerous things. Lean more to the sorghum sudan, sunn hemp, cow pea and millet mainly. Sorghum sudan can have prussic acid issues in drought so stay clear if you can of that unless you are just growing for biomass. I am also heavy on summer legumes (cowpeas and soybeans) because I am not big on just clover. Hairy vetch is also a great seed in fall. Hope this helps - Love some of the documentaries on Australia I see here on youtube. Stay in touch - don't hesitate to reach back around if you need help with anything else. Have a great week.
At 5:33 why make life complicated ??? Just use a short piece of nylon baler twine and tie it to the woven wire thats there....... and run the poly wire through it ???? Theres really no need for insulators here. But... people think too sophisticatedly !!
What may be complicated to some is not to others. I don’t see it as complicated at all. Have a great week. Thanks for the feedback.
@@StewartFarmApiary True....maybe not see it as complicated......but often the actions speak for themselves.
@@StewartFarmApiary But complicated compared to not needing the PVC tube...... bungee cord . Where as.....only needing string as an insulator

Oh my.......this guy has been watching too much of Mr. Glyphosate ( Greg Judy ) !!!! He just lives in a perfect world ! World wide criticizes his neighbors saying their soils are dead !!!! Id love to be his neighbor !!!!! NOT !
Not sure I understand your comment. I don't use glyphosate.
@@StewartFarmApiary Im relating to Mr. Glyphosate..... Greg Judy........ He think everything dies from Glyphosates !!!! And that maybe you watch is videos ? Then he criticizes his neighbors world wide in his videos....saying their soils are dead. Totally false !!!!!
Why not just loop the wire around the post once or twice......no need for insulators on a poly pole ! I seldom use an insulator..... more often I use nylon baler twine. Works great on the ends for holding up the wire !
My concern was the wire slipping up and down and if the lower or middle wire is loose you cannon wrap it around the pole because of wires on top or bottom would not allow it. This system works best for me. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great week.
Great idea. I believe electric conduit (gray pipe) has UV protection. Probably the only change I’d make. Thanks for the idea
That is a great idea. thanks for the suggestion and I will upgrade on my next one. have a great week.
Great idea. I believe electric conduit (gray pipe) has UV protection. Probably the only change I’d make. Thanks for the idea
Thats a great idea with the electrical conduit. I may have to try that.
how tight have you tried bringing them in? i have been doing around 25k/ac and find they become a bit more non-selective. Id love to go denser, but then im into twice a day moves and with a dayjob, no time for that. At 25k/ac i can get them to eat some canada thistle, but they mainly only eat the tops right now.
I dont do intensive mob grazing. I tried and it’s too time consuming. I also do t run one wire and when running 3 or 4 wires it is even more of a hassle. I also work a full time job. So I will run 25 sheep on a one acre lot for a few days then move them. I only want them to take the top 1/3 of the blade of grass. Some fields I keep in longer than others. Hope this helps
$300 for 330 ft now
Yep. Everything is more now.
You convinced me im gonna try this .. i been using Neem oil but its only slowing it down so i hope this is better

I have real chicken poop I fill half of the barrel of chicken poop, then fill it up with rain water. Sit for two days. Take a paint strainer over my 15 gallon sprayer. Half a gallon of tea poop . Spray my lawn at slow speed.
Great idea. I worry about chicken manure and burning my fields but I will try it this way. Thank you for the tip. Have a great week
Now if only a single person on youtube would show how to prepare and seed pasture WITHOUT a crazy expensive tractor. That would be one of a kind. :)
yes - maybe a hand spreader and a swing blade.
Nature seeds. Brilliant idea. It seems insane to keep buying seed. Great video.
Yes - the cost if crazy. Its the long term planning that pays off. Thank you for the comment - Have a great week.
Nice, if you can afford it.
If you invest in this for one year and not cut and let it go to seed each fall then the costs long term are very cost effective. Thanks for the comment. Have a great week.

Thanks for the video. I had forgotten about BT. My poor cabbage look like Swiss cheese.
That stuff works. Glad you enjoyed. I’ll never do without it !!
I have super sandy soil and this just saved me big! My 40 horse 4wd tractor was stuck in super nasty quicksand - the bottom of the tractor was basically scraping - I couldn't see the bottom of my rim at one point. I just had to move the log 3-4 times. Thanks!
You are very welcome. Really glad the method worked for you. Have a great week!!
Agree with all you say. Best machine I've had on the farm in 50 years. But our RTV 900 has one very well known and documented weakness. It's gutless up hills, especially with a load. So gutless it can be dangerous. My son stalled on a steep hill and started to slip backwards! He turned into the side of the track and was lucky not to turn the RTV over.
Yes, I love it - is your 900 a gas or diesel? I didn’t get the 900 gas burner for the exact reason you have mentioned. I wanted the power and torque of the diesel. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great week
Very good advice from your Farmer friend..My dad always come up with good ideas to s solve problems are issues around his Farm
True old school people mostly always know. Have a great week.
Do you need the alligator clips? Could you just complete the circuit by burying the cable and splicing it to the other wire? Sorry for sounding dumb. I wanting to install electric fencing to keep the livestock from pushing on the wire but I absolutely hate those rubber gate handles on the wire.
You can totally splice directly to the live wire. The reason I don't attach the wire full time is because I want full charge and the longer the wire the more issues I have found. Hunting hundreds of yards for what is shorting out the wire is a pain so I just make it to where the pasture I have the animals in at the time has the connection for a full charge. So far it works and cuts down on maintenance for me. Just a thought if you are running alot of wire. Hope this helps. Have a great week.
Thanks so much for posting this! I am confused though. In your video, you emphasized that the width should be exactly 10', but their recommended foundation width is 118.5". Does it matter?
I called and spoke to them when I did it. It’s only 1.5 inches difference and the frames allow for a little give. Mine was perfect and I have zero issues. It was also so much easier to leave at 10’ instead of having to cut a massive 6x6 and keep it exact. If you are worried then I suggest you go off of what they say but I don’t have any issues. Thanks for the question. I hope my answer helps.
@StewartFarmApiary thank you so much for your quick reply! I am relieved that I don't have to shave 1.5" off these 6x6's!!

Worked for me so it is a “fix”. Worked for many more as well. Thanks for the feedback.
Good work!
You could easily let a patch go to seed on the rye and crimson clover but the reason they recommend to chop the rye right before it goes to seed is that’s when the plants have the most nutrients and haven’t spent them on seeds yet and when used as a cover crop or an initial start to a new garden you want all that organic matter so you don’t have to buy compost. 😂 Even if you let a patch go to seed so you needn’t buy more ever, you still should not let it all go to seed as extra seeds are wasted nutrients that could’ve been returned to the topsoil.
This is true. I wanted the biomass and the pollen more than anything. Thanks for the comment. Have a great week.
What holds the bottom of the pole in place? Just earth friction? Thank you.

Looks great. Would enjoy seeing this same field in June, August then Oct after your process (grazing, rest, recovery). Thanks you.

You could always use a chain instead of a top link , long enough that the mower hangs slightly down at the back when lifted off the ground. This will allow the back wheel and the lower arms to control the cutting height and the lose chain will allow it to float. I've had Pat's quick hitches for several years and love them.
Thanks for the tip. Ive used the chain on a past tractor with a traditional connect but didn't think about that with this. Thanks again. Have a great day.
Can I plant longer cuttings with maybe 3 or more nodes, or do they need to be short like how you did it?
Longer would be better. Just make sure you have plenty of nodes for sprouting. I did short because of space. Hope this helps.
The hi tensile fence in your video is a poor example. Metal t-posts are just waiting to dead short your fence. They also don't last as long as a good pressure treated post. A properly constructed hi tensile electric fence is the most economical way to fence larger acreages.
Thank you for the feedback. Hope you have a great week.
