    Great, Dear Maria, the Chorus was moving and more than that, D A N C I N G ! Orchestra- the "round" thing- was where the ΟΡΧΗΣΙΣ (DANCE) took place, as You just said. Renaissance Opera is a try for the Drama in a the New World. A Greek friend, Nikephoros. (my humble opinion)

    Some useful, practical hints, tips and advice, thank you✌️👍😊💜 I'm out of practice - and I may not proceed - but writing up a chapter or two with references and bibliography, will flesh out feasibility and the desire to engage with it all again. You're spot on about Bibliography - I used to leave that and references last, always a fatigue inducing and heartbreaking mistake to do so. Took my awhile to discipline myself in doing it as I go/up front✌️🤞💜👍😊

    3:43 I just wonder, if a princess get a message in a dream about that she need so get her "stuff together" to prove she can be a good wife and in the act of doing so, the next day meet a handsome man that probably could fit that purpose. I wouldn't be surprised she somehow do this connection.

There is anew edition called "The Greek Plays" which runs at about £10 www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=31730732982&ref_=ps_ggl_10939332144&cm_mmc=ggl-_-UK_Shopp_Textbookstandard-_-product_id=UK9780812983098USED-_-keyword=&gclid=CjwKCAiA-P-rBhBEEiwAQEXhH8X0KQQHV3dMqhlkCZwOzvzmeMAjd_DTtcwLJHWypeKqKqn-jb5VWxoC30kQAvD_BwE I am not affiliated with the author but taught from this edition at Manchester uni, it is a good anthology with a clear introduction for each play if you were looking to invest in a print copy :) Happy reading. 🥰 📕📚

    Speaking of Women in the Odyssey, look at the two halves of Odysseus's account of the underworld, what he relates before he says he is too tired to continue, what is the reaction of the queen, and how does Odysseus resume his account of the underworld post-interruption. It kind of goes like this: he plays the feminist, the perfect man who respects women deeply, then Arete tells all the men to go get Odysseus a present, then Odysseus, having just potentially upset all the men by weakening their wealth, starts his 2nd half of his story with Agamemnon, who bitterly complains about how terrible women, e.g. Clytemnestra, are. Kind of a self serving set up for Odysseus both ways.

    Hi! I’m new to Greek Mythology and wanted to ask where should I start like chronologically? I think it’s the Iliad, then Odyssey, Aeniad, and then Oedipus. But I’ve heard that these are epics based on the myths themselves and that the myths of the Greek Gods were derived from the Minoan Civilization so I’m a bit confused on where to start. Thank you!!

    • @MillennialClassicist
      @MillennialClassicist 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I would read in the order of the authors so you can see their influence on one another, so Homer (Iliad and Odyssey) first and Virgil (Aeneid) second. In narrative order you would then read Iliad (Trojan War), Odyssey (after Troy) and Aeneid (after Troy). Then read Greek tragedy afterwards as many stories (not all) follow events during and after the Trojan war. classictales.co.uk/ Is a good place for audio versions of the stories. Happy reading!

    Always felt a bit torn about this play. On the one hand it's refreshing to see a more active female character and Menelaus comes across as genuinely caring. But on the other hand there is the looming implication of Helen being more valuable/virtuous for not having been abducted and instead remaining chaste.

    Thank you for your video. I find it quite amusing that you blame Odysseus (and his supposed poor leadership) for the releasing of the bag of winds onboard his ship rather than the crew members who committed the deed! I put the blame on the men themselves who think that there's treasure inside that bag but that's just my point of view. So do you reckon that placing trust in your crew is a sign of substandard leadership? In other words - a good leader wouldn't place so much trust in them? Although it was obviously frustrating to all those involved, I do see the funny side of that particular episode in that they were all brought back to where they started from. I bet Odysseus held his head down low when he returned to Aeolus and asked for another bag of winds. It's a shame that Aeolus wasn't so generous this time around.

    Medea fell in love with Jason because Hera had Eros shot a love arrow at her. Hence I wonder if her subsequent behavior was because of this arrow...or was it something dreamt up later to explain her behavior because no "rational" woman will go to the extremes that she did.
