Carnarvon Gorge and Battleship Spur hike - over 37 km in one day - a huge ANZAC week adventure
มุมมอง 1K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
On ANZAC day 2024 I ventured up to Carnarvon Gorge in central Queensland to explore this unique area featuring narrow winding gorges and towering white sandstone cliffs. The walk through the gorge included the Amphitheatre, the Art Gallery, Cathedral Cave and 17 river crossings (the Carnarvon River) before reaching Big Bend camping area. I then headed into Boowinda Gorge and up the nearly 600m ...
Frenchmans Cap Hike - An amazing 3 days in the Tasmanian wilderness
มุมมอง 2.4K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
My son and I did a road trip from Brisbane to Tasmania, February 2024 to hike Frenchmans Cap in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. This was an adventure one year in the making and it didn't disappoint. What an amazing hike. Spectacular scenery and a tough hike. Vera hut and Tahune hut were both amazing. Tahune hut has hydro electric power. 25hrs of walking over 54kms (according to t...

Drone footage taken from Duck Creek Rd near O'Reillys Green Mountains, Feb 2024. I was exploring Duck Creek Rd (4WD) to check out various hiking tracks including Cainbable Ridge and Ding Bing Falls (Stockyard Creek Falls). Much of this area is private land so I wasn't able to enter. I started on Cainbable Ridge track to see what it was like (there are pink ribbons but no actual footpad - fairly...
Bullant Spur to Joonbeelba Falls and Fountain Falls - Beautiful, brutal and a great spot to swim
มุมมอง 2649 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a challenging hike mostly off track to the small but beautiful Joonbeelba Falls and Fountain Falls on Canungra Creek, Lamington National Park. The pink tape finishes at Fountain Falls. Joonbeelba Falls (where I swam) is about 200m upstream. This remote spot is surrounded by beautiful rainforest and impressively tall thick trees. The hike starts down Bullant spur, a steep track with a r...
Mt Cordeaux in the rain and mist, a magical rainforest experience (with Bare Rock and Morgan's Walk)

Isolated Peak (Mt Barney) - when things don't go as planned - a 13 hour ordeal!
มุมมอง 92911 หลายเดือนก่อน
We set out to climb Isolated Peak (North East Rock) at Mt Barney based on a trail I found on Wikiloc. I had done some additional research on the options and all options seemed pretty challenging. We made it to Isolated Peak and headed down the other side to the saddle and then determined that we would head left down the ridge, per my original plan and based on the Wikiloc route. Well it seems t...

Hike to the Upper Portals at Mt Barney NP. Took the ridge track back to do a loop. 521m elevation. Views of the peaks of Mt Barney are visible from the ridge line. A hot day but very enjoyable exploring the creek and rock formations in this unique part of Mt Barney National Park.
Mezzanine Ridge Mt Barney hike: "Where the heck are we going?" 21 Oct 2023

While heading along the crest of the grassy ridge fairly early in the hike, with seemingly multiple rigdes and paths ahead of us Peter states: "The problem is Dallas: Where the heck are we going?" This about summarises our first trek up Mezzanine Ridge. On a hot spring day, this hike was long and tiring and it wasn't clear at the beginning where we were heading. The climb went on and on, up and...

Ian, Wayne, and Stephen take on Logans Ridge for the first time in this epic hike up Mt Barney. They share their thoughts on Logans Ridge on the summit, how it compares to other hikes. Logans Ridge is one of my favourite hikes and it was great to share the experience with great company. It was a very hot day so plenty of breaks, took us just over 9 hours all up (descent via SE Ridge). Reid's se...
Brindle Creek Hike Northern NSW and Lions Rd (QLD/NSW Border)

Cassie and I enjoyed a road trip via Lions Rd to Northern NSW to Brindle Creek in the Border Ranges National Park. A beautiful hike through rainforest that follows Brindle Creek and goes to Selva falls. Lots of great scenery on Lions Rd. We also visited the Border Loop Lookout. The story behind the construction of Lions Rd is very interesting and worth looking up.
The Steamers and part of Lizard Point Trail - Mt Steamer (29 Sep 2023)
มุมมอง 434ปีที่แล้ว
Exploring The Steamers in Main Range National Park. We initially planned a 2 day hike including Lizard Point and Superbus, the Lincoln Wreck. Given how we were feeling on day 1 (approaching Lizard Point) we decided to turn it into a day trip. My health wasn't the best and we didn't like the idea of contending with 30 degree heat on day 2 which would have been a huge day. As it turned out it was...

Wow
Great video Dallas. This is an epic and scary looking climb. Awesome job getting up there.
@VickiSchriever note that we took a wrong path which took us up that vertical climb section. The normal path is not as exposed. The next time we did Logans we worked out the correct path. Head to the right after the tree climb instead of left.
Hi Dallas, Do you recommend gloves for climbing Logans Ridge and if so what gloves do you use and where do get them from? Thanks.
@shornadosupreme2860 hello. Yes I recommend gloves for Logans ridge, lots of trees and rocks to grab hold of and long grass. Good to protect the hands. I have these at the moment and like them. Fingerless Work Gloves for Men,Half Finger working Glove Shock Absorbing amzn.asia/d/dq9YRyl
Wow! Great Video of what looks like a very tough climb! Presumably it's just as hard, or worse, when descending?
@davidwalter1528 it's quite tough coming down given the steepness and terrain. Having gone down Logans twice I think.
Looks like a lovely hike. Lovely video.
We almost got there kast month. Decided against it. Regretting it now watching this wlvid. Well done.
The TH-cam compression doesn't do this justice. Looks great!
You are a legend. Scared the shit out of myself climbing S E Ridge a few months ago. Tha ks for all you videos. Really love watching them.
@@paulalee4195 thanks for the feedback

Viewed this excellent record last night. Better than Netflix! Three...days...!! I need to sit down... 😵 Now, there is a particular scene climbing away from Tahune Hut: there trackside on the left, tucked into a mossy, rainforested dell at 10:50, is a small waterfall framed by a 'triangle' of two fallen/leaning tree branches. Item? Well, I have a beautiful framed colour print of this bewitching scene - but absolutely no idea where it came from! It certainly is not a photograph by me, as Frenchman's Cap is way beyond my bushwalking abilities. This richly coloured framed print, with the waterfall tinted from tannins, is unsigned and undated, creating quite an enduring mystery, probably from many years ago (?). Does this minor waterfall have a name e.g. Tahune or Vera Falls, or ...? Does anybody know? There was a tragedy atop Frenchman's Cap very recently.
Thanks for the comments. I did hear about the tragedy at frenchmans recently but not sure of all the details. I'm not sure about any names of waterfalls from the maps I was using.
Wow- love bushbashing. Great effort and thanks heaps for taking us all with you! You guys did really well. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you for another great video.
Amazing- you did extremely well. Thank you for showing us this beautiful place.
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. sub & 👍17
you old boys were definitely showing the young boy up with your technique
I remember doing this with my family as a kid.. it was an epic adventure
Love this. Every shot is beautiful. Can't wait to get there.
Thanks. Enjoy the trip.
Mate. Herculean effort. Congratulations 🚶🏼🏞️
Thank you. I wanted to stay at big bend and do Battleship Spur on day 2 but all the camp spots were booked. Given I had travelled so far I thought I should make the most of it. It was a long day but glad I packed everything in.
Nice video. It’s a hard climb up to Barron Pass. I did the walk twice in the early 80s in pretty full on conditions basically going up under a waterfall and was rewarded both times with fine conditions. Nice hut these days.
Wow! You are a legend. I summited via SE ridge yesterday. No f#&$>=÷joke. Love your videos. ❤
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoy the videos. I have one of Carnarvon Gorge in production at the moment, will release in the next week.
Great vid, thanks for posting.
Great effort, fellas!
The views are bloody amazing!!! great video Dallas!
Seems some cliff edge there at times.
There are a few spots where you are on the edge of a cliff. It's not as difficult as logans ridge though, that's way harder but I find more enjoyable. SE Ridge is great too.
Nice one and well done Dallas. A lot better weather than what I encountered 😄 Hoping to be back there this year or early next 🤞🤞
Wow! Looking forward to seeing you tackle a Tasmanian trail.
You might like my Lake Rhona video from a year ago if you haven't seen that.
Well done Dallas & Reid 👏🏻👏🏻 You captured some great scenery.
Wow 👌
Looks good!
Great stuff again. Are you using all trails for your main map. I see you have a gps as well but interested on the app you use to follow routes?
Yeah great footage Dallas. Do you have a gpx for this route? I would really interested to see where you got to. Some of the peak names you are using are not on my map either?
Thanks. I can share the gpx with you from my Garmin. Will reach out to you tomorrow.
Here is a link to the GPX file on my OneDrive. 1drv.ms/u/s!AkaP0vlKzzJRhasousIGwIAy_ZbLcg?e=lX1r0C
Nice hike. Which app do you use?
Was there anywhere to replenish your water on this route
Not when we went. Not sure about during summer though after lots of rain.
"another Isolated peak that one" LOL!!! I've done this hike but exited via the creek hop =), its brutal but at least you can cool down when ever you want =).
So you did the loop around the creek? I'd be keen to know what that was like, whether you can walk next to creek much.
@@dallaswoolley you can walk pretty much in the creek for the vast majority as it's mostly shallow.
Looks like an awesome trek. I’ll have to add this to my list. Didn’t look like any sort of trail, Just wondering what navigation tools you are using?
Have sent you a message in Messenger.
A correction of my own if I may. I’m a botanist with a particular interest in enthobotany. My partner and children also have strong affiliations with Yuggera/Yagara Country, and it’s culture. The name Gimpi / Gympie or Gimpi’Gimpi is a Kabi Language name for Dendrocnide moroides - a species confined to up the Sunshine Coast… and is often wrongfully attributed to Dendrocnide excelsa which is found SEQ & Nth NSW. …It’s Yagara Language name is Brag’gain, not Gimpi. Dendrocnide excelsa = Brag’gain (Yagara Language) found on Yagara Country. Dendrocnide moroides = Gimpi (Kabi Language) found on Kabi Country. Hope this helps ✌️ P.s Love the content 👌
Thanks for the clarification.
Just a correction for people who Google this waterfall name in the future, the featured waterfall here is Joonbeelba, not Fountain Falls.
Thanks for the clarification. I'll update the thumbnail. Was going off what others had posted in the past. The maps I have don't have the names of these Falls.
I have just updated the thumbnail and description on TH-cam, thanks again. Note that the pink tape actually goes to Fountain Falls where you enter the creek.
That's a place I'd love to check.out! The offtrail hiking is a bonus too.
Jeez you blokes are looking well. Thanks for your vids, keep up the great work.
Good work Dallas. You missed the lower reach of the portals which is another world. The track you took up to the ridge track back branches back down so you don’t need to take the dangerous scale down the chute. In the lower reach there are 2 large rock pools with a nice island and beach on edge of a massive flat sloped slab. Next time;)
Thanks for this info, very helpful. Will probably go back there in the next couple of months.
Beautiful 👌👌
Some great footage Dallas, great to see a different side of the Mtn
Yes a great perspective of the mountain from isolated peak.
Enjoyable video, thanks for posting. Wow, what a place! Likewise as an above commenter, this trek has been added to the list. I chuckled when your phone got reception and was bombarded with notifications 😄 Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers!
Thanks for the comments. I have quite a few videos with more in production. Hope you like them.
Good video mate. When i did isolated peak we came up left side then went straght down towards eagles then diverted off into the gully to the right there, which lead us to the top of barney waterfall. Found it safer that way just a bush bash going through the gully!. Good to see you got off safely
Do you have an image or gpx file of your route. Would be interested to see.
I took the same exit, I had a fun time trying to stay alive as well, not sure where you got stuck but there was no abseiling on this route. Half way down I got off the ridge and then things became sketchy fast.
Keen to chat with you about it some time. I'll message you.
We can't ever underestimate Barney ❤ We'll done getting out safely. Learnt a few things I bet.
It was evident when we got to the ridge and exiting that the route included abseiling but the notes on Wikiloc didn't mention this, which would have been handy. There was another option to try and get down the ridge on the other side but from having a look it seemed impossible also. I'm thinking of going up there again to check it out from the bottom side (ascending) to see what it's like.
Nice to see. Mt warning
Love the intro👌
Thanks for this, has been on my list for a while, now it has been bumped up!
Great video mate. I am tossing up a couple of options for a hike in a couple of months and this video just about sealed the deal for Lake Rhona.
