Tips Before You Buy Your First "Hit & Miss Engine".
A short video showing examples, advice and tips before you purchase your first "hit and miss" engine. In this video I will show examples of Cracks, breaks, welds, worn bearings, missing parts and much more. We will go over the importance of buying a engine that is complete and the costs involved with missing parts. We will show examples of broken flywheels repaired connecting rods and the destruction that can happen when these are over looked. At the beginning of the video I'm showing a basket case of a engine. It is a 1.5 horse McCormick deering m. The flywheel is busted as well as the hopper. Its missing parts and is pretty much only a parts engine. I show several examples of engines with repairs, and engines that a first time buyer shouldn't buy. I will also show a example of a seized engine with a hole in the piston, that at which would be a big project. I will show all three of my engines as examples of proper and improper repairs. The hit and miss engine term is loosely used. There are many different terms used for the Flywheel engine, stationary engine, throttle governed engine. But a hit and miss engine actually uses the push rod to govern the speed. As the engine speeds up the weights use a mechanism that holts the exhaust valve open and the engine will coast. It will then close once the engine slows down or under a load and will fire again. Where as a throttle governed engine uses the the throttle plate in the carb/mixer to govern the engine. Throttle governed fires the engine every time/ every 4 strokes where as a hit and miss doesn't.
There are a lot of people in this "Hit and miss engine" community that know a lot more than I do. But I thought I would share what knowledge I do have. Thank you for watching

Me just trying to pull my old truck on the trailer with my farmall C. I didn't think it could do it at first but it did. I found when working by yourself you have to be pretty resourceful. Its a challenge but fun. I hope...

Riding the Oldest and only coal fired ferry in the USA. The SS Badger

The SS Badger runs from Manitowoc Wisconsin to Ludington Michigan. It is the last coal fired ferry operating in the USA. The trip was about 4 hours long and was worth the money. It was a experience that almost took you back in time. I tried to get permission to get into the boiler room, but it was not possible due to liability.

How to install offset ball joints on a dodge 3500. Had to install these due to the camber being off on both sides of the axle. Stumbled across this video as I heal from back surgery I just wanted to say I like the video. I am now the retired Fire chief for springville township and the bridge was believed to be some local teens starting the fire. At least that's what went into my report listed as hearsay getting our trucks back there was interesting. Still love to go out there to just get away.

    Me and my brother took that in 1976 to see the U-505 in Chicago. The car ferry was inexpensive back then. We took my 75 Chevy Nova then but I have a 2015 Toyota Corolla now. I don't want to take the trip because it's not only expensive now, but my car is a stick shift and I wouldn't take the chance of a worker trying to drive it on board that doesn't know how to drive it.

    $380 for 1 SUV and 3 people?! That seems like an eye-popping amount of money for a 4 hour ferry ride. Is that at least Round Trip? Can you take a round trip as a foot passenger (no vehicle) just for the boat ride?

    • @leeannthon8554
      @leeannthon8554 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was $315 one way before taxes and fees, including fare protection since we were traveling far from home. You don’t have to take your vehicle, you book a ticket separate for yourself and your vehicle. We did it for the experience more than anything. It also avoided the hassle of driving through Chicago and the opportunity to move around while traveling which is a lot nicer than being cooped up on the road!

    • @tylerthon2214
      @tylerthon2214 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can. You do not have to have a vehical to ride the ferry. Yes 380 is alot.

      It is pricey. I took the trip the other direction, from Luddington to Manitowoc 3 years ago. One person and one truck was less than $200. That's less than the faster ferry that goes from Muskegon and Milwaukee (and requires a 2-week lead time reservation). I got my reservation the day before for the S. S. Badger and spent the night in Luddington. It's more a "the journey is the point" kind of thing. Is it cheaper to drive around the lake? Absolutely. But that means driving through/past Chicago (and the constant construction on I90/I290/I294/I80), etc. Being able to just relax (after I bought a pullover in the gift shop because I was way underdressed for a 4-hour 15-knot lake crossing over 50-degree water) and enjoy the voyage was great. I plan on one day doing a partial lake loop, crossing on the S. S. Badger then driving north across the U.P. (or doing the U.P first then cross the lake).

    • @jamesnelson6980
      @jamesnelson6980 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can ride as a walk on passenger.

    • @CheeseheadMedia
      @CheeseheadMedia หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do a round trip as just a passenger for about $110. Also realize that Manitowoc to Luddington is about the middle of Lake Michigan. It is a 7 hour drive not including Chicago traffic if you go around the bottom and an 8 hour 30 minute drive if you go across the top of the lake between these two cities. That is a lot of driving that is being eliminated plus you get to rest as well. So it may well be worth the cost for some people.
