Western States 100 Miles - WSER 2024 - Crewing and Pacing Tyler Rogers
In June 2024 - Tyler Rogers raced the infamous Western States 100 Miles.
Also known as WSER (Western States Endurance Run).
The goal is to run a 100 miles between Palissades Tahoe and Auburn, in California.
And to do so under 30 hours.
Follow us along as we crew and pace Tyler along the way, going through all the ups and downs that often happen during races of this magnitude.
Between medical tents, dehydration issues and heavy vomiting.
This race takes grit and a solid crew to finish, and it's considered one of the most iconic 100 mile races out there.
Thank you for watching!
Enjoy.

This is just an incredible video. Well done. Really interesting seeing it more from the crew and pacers' perspective. And so beautifully made. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to give very nice feedback. I always appreciate it!

Man, this video is so well done. Congrats to all involved. Awesome race, awesome story, awesome filming, awesome editing. Getting me stoked for lottery szn
Thank you so much! This really means alot to me. All of us put our hearts and souls into this project, from crew to pacers, filmmakers and obviously Tyler who raced this thing. It's always a true pleasure to get nice feedback. I too am very stoked on lottery season! 😊
Doesn't get better than this. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much!
It was so fun meeting these wonderful people. They were at the very end of the long shuttle line and I tapped them on the shoulder and asked if they wanted a ride to the top where their car was parked. I didn't know they were making a documentary but it was fun being in the show. Shannon
Shannon! It was such a pleasure to meet you! Thank you so much for driving us up the hill and sharing a little bit of your story with us. All of us wished we could have spent more time with you. Hopefully we'll get to come back to WSER soon. If we do, we'll make sure to find you once more.
@@briceferrestudio Brice, it was my pleasure. Your film is wonderful. Great job on the editing, music and representation of the WSER100. Shannon

He sure made everybody proud over here too. So strong!
Top notch video Brice!!! Loved the story, imagery, and of course the trail running.
Thanks Chad! I know I can always count on you for awesome feedback. Always appreciated. Thank you for watching!
Amazing work out there Tyler! Great job with this one Brice, loved it! 👏
Thanks Curtis! Western States was an incredible experience for all of us.
Hi Brice, what location is this in Costa Rica?
This was shot around Las Catalinas, in Costa Rica.
hey dude - came across this video and your one from 2023. I'm doing this race next weekend are you doing it again? It seems you were doing a better job getting calories in in 2022, do you think that was just the heat difference that made it easier in 2022? I'm worried about the heat this year -- gonna be high of 88 degrees or so
Hi! No I won't be there this year, unfortunately. Yes, I somehow dealt with my electrolyte intake better in 2022, which resulted in me being able to process calories throughout the day without stomach issues. I messes up my electrolytes in 2023 and was not able to recover from that. So my only advice to you is to always drink electrolytes at Aid Station instead of just water. It will make a big difference in your ability to keep fueling until the temperature cools down at night. Have fun out there!
@@briceferrestudio Thanks! I did a 100k in January but this is my first 100 mile. Not sure how much you are into hiking but I have a hiking youtube channel!

What a race !!! You can be proud !!! Tanks for the video it's just so beautiful.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind feedback.
Hey, I’m running Javelina for the first time this year and have also been using Nanak. May I ask what you took in each lap. Combo of hydration mix and waffles? Gels? How many bottles did you take each lap. Did you also have plain water? Great recap
Hello. Thank you for watching. For the first 2 laps I was alternating a Naak bar and a Naak Waffle every 30 minutes. And drinking NaaK energy mix on top of it, with water as well. Then Laps 3 to 5 I switched to just Waffles every 30 minutes and increased the dose of energy mix. There was no Naak gels back then. It all worked out very well for me. I was also ingesting a lot of salt pills and additional electrolytes, which I would advise you do as well. It's pretty crucial in this type of heat. Have fun out there! It's a fantastic race.

Are you running it this year? 2024?? I'll be out there for my first Javelina attempt.
I'm not doing Javelina this year, no. I will probably try another 100 miler race somewhere though.
How was the food
The food and drinks were excellent. The Nayara standards are quite high. Also eating dinner while looking at the fish and sharks in the ocean every night was pretty special.
Baddass personified, congratulations!
I was was expecting to see more of the island and the resort NOT a lady romanticising life for her own ego feeding sake 🙄🙄🙄🙄 . . Photography is quite good though
How long was the hike to the top from the parking lot?
Such a stunning trail race! Great job out there!
What camera did you use to film this?
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III back in the day.
@briceferrestudio you take some really cool shots in your videos. Idk if I can do the same with my Canon M50 Mark 2 it's so big. That I just use either my phone or dji action 4
You give dance a bad name
This was awesome! I've been looking for a 50miler or 100k and I think I've finally found the one that speaks to me!
Nice! So glad this video helped you pick. Yes, the 100K felt like a 50 miler with a tiny bit extra, but it was really manageable. You're gonna love it!
Hey! I’m in this at 4:34
Nice! 😊 Fun times sharing the trail with you for a bit! Looks like you had a great day out there!
@@briceferrestudio was a great day! I ended up being around you a ton. Saw lots of clips of me either behind or in front of you. We finished within minutes of each other.
You just brought back a shit-ton of incredible memories from what's now my favourite 100k race! Congrats on your sub-14 hr finish...absolutely incredible and inspiring! Was a pleasure to race alongside and cross paths with you on course! 👏👏👏
I don't think anyone could fake either of our reactions when I saw you! 😂 What a fun ride! Somehow we keep seeing each other around the 25-30k mark at these events. Looking forward to the next one.
Love my brother, Brent. Very proud of him.
We all do, and are! 😊 I recall hearing about "creme fraiche" comments from you during the race. I'm convinced that's what got him through.😂

Great video and congratulations... logistics question. At the top of NK when the water was shut off, why did you choose to hike to the office instead of back down to Supai Tunnel, or was the water off there also? (this being the internet... asking honestly as adding distance is always challenging)
Hi! that's a good question, i think we thought the office was the closest source (although return trip was probably close to same distance than supai tunnel) and we just wanted to have a break at the top, but needed water? HOnestly we didn't even think about it. I think we had our mind set on getting water at the top, so we did 😬
@@briceferrestudio Thanks for your reply. I totally understand that, at that moment, getting water was your primary objective. Evaluating options with "trail brain" and limited sleep is challenging too - having been in that mind-state a few times myself. Did R3R a few weeks back and only stayed at North Rim long enough to take a picture. It was cold and windy and I wanted to get back into the protection and warmth of the canyon as soon as I could.
Great story
Thank you so much!
The ice falling looked and sounded really neat!
