เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 พ.ค. 2015
Gates Au Sable Lodge is a destination fly-fishing lodge on the banks of Michigan's Au Sable River with over fifty years of serving food, guiding anglers, hosting guest at our lodge, and carrying a full-line of fly fishing and fly tying goodies. We have a small but diverse fly shop, including tied-in-house flies, custom-dyed fly-tying materials, and products from almost every fly-fishing brand. We ship daily and love to engage with customers, whether it's mixing a special dubbing blend, picking individual hackles, or just offering river conditions.

CDC Quigley Stacker: Hendrickson Edition
This fly style has spread along spring creeks around the world. A sweet cripple/emerger pattern, the stacker edition can also be used as a spinner imitation if tied in darker colors. We use it in sizes 6-18, for everything from Hex to BWOs. As a fly-style, it's second in our shop to a parachute...and that's saying something. Easy to tie, it is almost always less than five minute fly. This makes it the perfect backbone of every box of mayfly imitations.

The Roberts Yellow Drake: An oldie but a goodie
มุมมอง 1.5K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
The Robert’s Yellow Drake is the quintessential Northern Michigan dry fly. It’s the backbone of our June fly boxes…and the foundation for many of our “new” flies. Through different thread colors and hackles, it morphs to cover a wide array of mayflies. It’s especially good at imitating the larger burrowing mayflies. Contact us if you need the perfect patch of deer hair - tying this style parach...
The Wet Skunk

This fly is fished on a 7-9 ft leader, usually when the water temperature is over 55 degrees. A great mid-summer streamer fished actively through the bank shadows, along undercuts, in and out of submerged wood, or along edges of weed-beds. Short quick strips or rod-twitches, with tantalizing pauses. An exciting way to fish, especially during the dog days of summer. Hook: Daiichi 2200 or 1280 si...

This simple fly is a great all-purpose Mid-May evening mayfly. Kind of a tie it on and forget it. Henny spinner, Lt Henny Spinner, Mahogany...you're kinda covered with this one. The Bread Hex
มุมมอง 1.7K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
World famous to some rivers, the hex is a very large nocturnal mayfly that typically hatches in northern Michigan near the end of June. The spinner is the main event, and while the hatch which typically occurs around midnight is the favorite of some, I've found a lot of success fishing this spinner imitation for both the spinner and the dun.

Old House Iso
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Truth be told, this fly doesn’t really have a name. It’s one of those flies that was tied on a whim a decade or two ago from carpet from my old house. New materials have made this an easy fly to tie, and it fishes great on summer evenings on Michigan streams, especially toward the tail-end of the Isonychia. This color is for the dun, but I’ve done well tying this fly in wine and brown colors as...

This high floater is the perfect bug for fishing fast water during the Isonychia hatch. On Midwestern rivers, the Isonychia hatches out of fast water (as opposed to crawling out on the banks as they are said to do in the East), providing some of the best and most exciting dry fly fishing of the year. Snowshoe Emerger

Snowshoe Rabbit Feet may be the finest all-around dry-fly material there is. Naturally buoyant and buggy, it is both post and hackle (and, chopped up, dubbing as well!). It is also cheap. Not cheap in an extruded plastic sense, but with each foot tying over two dozen flies, and being an excellent substitute for most CDC and hackle applications, it is a one-stop material for tying inexpensive, d...
All Natural Henny Spinner

A simple hendrickson spinner that performed well this past spring for me across several different stretches of the Au Sable and Manistee. I fish it on 6x fluorocarbon. The hackle is small and sparse enough to fool flat water fish but it does float well, at least for what it is. Sometimes flies just gotta be easy. The key components to this two-fly rig: a floatable dry fly with a good silhouette, and a turkey-body nymph with CDC soft hackle.
