Free Kobelco Excavator..How Bad Is It?
in this video i make a deal with a local auction yard to purchase many items for resale to end up with a free Kobelco SK220LC. I have since sold this machine for a newer Doosan DX225, but this machine was an excellent find. I know that technically I paif for the entire lot, but after selling all of the other items, I was left with a profit of $2700 and a free excavator. I go over some of the items and what I sold them for in this video

    Drop the temperature by bonding a lubricant to everything in the engine? It will also drop the wear in your hydraulics dramatically... extending your fluid lifespan significantly. 🙂

    That machine should be using 1540 motor oil in that gearbox and the transmission, not hydraulic oil it's too thin. Those brake adjusters are supposed to be tightened and then backed off one and a half turns. You likely fixed it by adding oil or repairing that line. Those pedals also control the steering clutches, the screen that you had out is on the suction side of the steering clutch pump, if it has any leaks that pump won't pump. The suction line goes from the bottom of the gearbox where you were adjusting, it's hidden by the skid pan but it's on the front side bottom of that gearbox, the suction line goes up to that filter strainer that you had out, another line will go off from the filter strainer up to the front of the the transmission to the pump it's located between the front of the transmission in the back of the engine, that line that you replaced is the one going from the strainer to the steering clutch pump, and it's of course driven off the front of the transmission, the pressure side from the pump goes back to the top of the gearbox probably through another filter, and then to the steering clutch hydraulic assist, that's back on the top of that box where you were doing the steering clutch brake adjustment. Anyways it sounds like you got it fixed, nice machine!

    forced to comment as a European. I have driven many makes and models of excavators. ex and zx series Hitachi are the best. hydraulically, a 2001 model year machine is much more comfortable and more accurate than, for example, a 2017 model 317 CAT

    Sorry guys. You really screwed the pooch on this one. Taking out the crossmember that is where the front of the rear leaf spring mounts go was a big no no. Now the frame can bow in at the top causing a lot of unwanted stresses. Let alone the fact you took the bottom Channel out of the scissor frame. Those two pieces are what spreads the load out on the frame rails. And because you only used 3” channel for your longitudinal stringers it’s a recipie for disaster. I really hope you are only running light weight shit like brush and yard waste or whatever.

      Actually we still use the truck every day with anything from demo debris to hauling our mini ex in the bed. This truck has been in service for almost 3 years as is with no welds cracking or frame issues. Obviously now that it’s been almost 3 years, there are some things I would change with the particular build, as I’m always trying to improve, but removing and replacing a crossmember on a smaller truck like this is not one of them. Now if this was a 10 wheeler with a single frame, I definitely wouldn’t be moving crossmembers and welding directly to the frame, but it’s not and is inspected regularly with nothing but minor issues. On the other side of it, one of our trucks came with a prefab dump bed and the frame that is bolted to the truck frame without reinforcements has had over 10 cracks that needed welding. I appreciate your input on the situation and taking to time to share your experience, and most importantly, thanks for watching!

    Looks like a good machine, only thing I could suggest is that you weld some grousers on those flat plate feet she’s got, especially when you will be ,working on uneven sites, probably clay, chances of slipping when walking her or taking a bite are pretty high and believe me that’s a ride you don’t want. Pretty sure you will lick her into place.

    On my case 580 B modal, we picked up the tractor for free because the brakes would not work, so I crawled under it a discovered the housing that holds the turning cutting Brake , was broken off corners ,, we welded the corners and I had to find 4 (I think 1 inch steel balls ) and new clutch pack with splines on the shafts and put them back in and it had brakes again, this set screws are a good place for vibration to get the loss, good vlog , just slow the moving of the camera ok, thanks BigAl California.

    Happen to have one borrowed from a friend. We both have a Cat 299d3 xe. Both machines hyd fluid temperature skyrockets to a point where the alarms come on and have to stop to cool down. Any idea what's going on and how to cure it??? Thanks!

    • @nathanchurchill
      @nathanchurchill ปีที่แล้ว

      Without seeing it, it would be hard to diagnose, but running an attachment like these requires a ton of flow through the machine, way more than a grapple or clamshell. My machine has a reversing fan and in addition to that I wash the radiator out every other day of use or else it overheats the hydraulics and sometimes the coolant. Even with washing them religiously, I just pulled my radiator out to fix a leak and was amazed how dirty it was within the fins, so that might be an issue with both machines because it’s not a problem that would normally present itself through normal use, other than that, the motor in the attachment might have a blockage causing the pressure to be too high and putting strain on the machines or the gears aren’t meshing properly in the gear box causing the same issue

    • @ryanderryberry8271

  • @jaredharris1427
    @jaredharris1427 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was a diesel tech for a while. One of the most common problems the occurs is that people don’t clean under or inside of their cab/engine compartment. Build up always happens and if a rock is under the oil pan it will wear a hole through the oil pan and blow the motor. Also the build up is a fire hazard as it will absorb hydraulic oil, which is very flammable, also acts as an insulator. Causing overheating. My only advice is to back the machine on to some blocks, open it up as you did and pull the two small squares off at the front and power wash everything out.
