I wonder how tall this excellent cellist is !

For me, the most consistently interesting and varied among my 27 recordings, especially for the variety of tones and undertones, the intimacy of the discourse and also the virtuosity (courante of the 3rd suite, gigue of the 4th) is Lynn Harrell's. My friend who has perfect pitch says that he's not 100% pitch perfect but when I notice something that might appear fishy, it is in fact a way of making his cello speak. Because it not only dances, runs, sings and reflects: it truly speaks. Listen for example to the prelude of the third suite or the minuets of the second where he alternates roars and murmurs ...

Exquisite! I fell in love with this Vivaldi gem through the transcription and recording by the classical guitar legend, David Russell. I'm delighted to have found this interpretation on the original instruments. Looking forward to hearing more from this cellist and ensemble!

I just love the delicateness of the harpsichord in the background. Or is it really in the background? To me this is baroque. I used to know a friend from such a young age, 12 or so who's parents were music teachers and he took up the cello, he drifted away from all of us as he got accepted To Julliard and didn't go to our graduation. Later he became a member of the Milwaukee symphony orchestra but very sadly got MS at age 46 or so and died at age 56. I can't imagine the effect of him not being able to play any longer at such a young age. Now when I hear this music I wonder what were his favorites? Back then we didn't have texts or E-mail so could not keep in touch.

Very interesting choices. But what about Truls Mørk? To me his recordings is supurb.

A really fine top 10. All superb in their own way (although I'm yet to listen to the Pandolfo, so thanks for bringing that to my attention). Another recording I enjoy listening to is by David Watkin - a great testament to his artistry.
