I did like the video. You didn't mention your civic theater as a pro. Is it fairly active, and if so what types of performances can one expect to see? As for a con, is flooding a major issue in New Bern. I did just watch your video on flooding. It looks like New Bern has enough land that is not in flood zones (including X), that would not flood. Do you agree?

Can you give information about New Bern shopping mall? Is it open? Is it working? What percentage of the shops are closed or open? My last question is, is there any flooding in the city? When was the last time there was a flood? Thank you.

What about the schools?

I won't be staying in New Bern when our lease runs out in March. New Bern is a city of "the haves and the have nots". If you travel outside of the immediate downtown area, you'll see urban blight like you'd see in Baltimore or Philadelphia on a smaller scale. Yea, they have their fancy Redevelopment Commission who can build 3 small houses, still unoccupied, in 2 years. You've got abandoned Sec. 8 housing destroyed in 2018 by Hurricane Florence. That's 6 years ago. There is no sense of urgency in the City. It will take decades to make a dent in the blight. And then, what are they going to do with the overgrown empty lots, the ugly mobile homes and the ramshackle homes owned by slumlords. Too bad I can't post some pictures of what I've seen. New Bern has some of the worst roads I've seen. They have a backlog of $ 7.6 million of roadwork needed and have only allocated $400,000 next year, 2025, to repair roads. Roads designated as Poor/Very Poor represent 12% of the roads, but would absorb nearly 66% of the $ 7.6 million needed. Then, you have the NCDOT that has jurisdiction over major roadways that will take years for them to fund refurbishment. All in all, there's better places to live in eastern NC.

I was going to move to New Bern . But after reading the ABC 11 news article Dated July, 7, 2023 about a 22 year old Father and 1 year old Daughter being shot on Main Street at 10 pm in New Bern while in their car The one year old died . No thanks. A small town like this has Murders like Raleigh , Durham or Charlotte ? I will find another place with Way Lower crime stats. Also , your burglary rates are way above the national average All those New Bern nice and cozy videos don’t mention this happening 🤔. New Bern was rated a D Minus on Crime: Source City Data 2024 . This for a Town of 32,000 people? And , New Bern just had another Murder on June 24.

Craven Terrace and Trent Court are the old “projects” with a 90% (censored race) population. I lived 6 blocks from Trent Court area 20 years ago. There were gunshots at night on the weekends between 11 pm - 2 am. The project residents strolled around my neighborhood at night, looking for bikes or other items left in front yards. Sometimes stealing out of cars. It was always the same race of people. They send there children to our neighbor for Trick or Treat on Halloween. Lots of stuff stolen on Oct. 31.

Kinda of a copout to not talk about the “nature” of a neighborhood, when you can just drive around and see it.

Very informative. My wife and I are coming to the area in May and now know what to look for in down town New Bern.

We moved to New Bern in January, 2024 and are just renting in 2024. The housing market here is totally screwed up. Average listing prices are skyrocketing and it's only going to get worse. Existing homes under $ 250k just don't exist and if they do, they're gone in days. New home builders just aren't producing product that the market needs. The whole downtown scene is way overrated. As for locals, yea, there's a couple of good restaurants like Morgan's, but who is going to be eating out several times a week? The shops are nice, but maybe geared for tourists that think it's so quaint. The local Chamber of Commerce and VisitNewBern are operating in the Stone Age. There's one big event per year. The Mumfest. Big deal. There's no reason for locals to continually support downtown businesses when all their needs are met well out west along MLK Blvd. There's no summer music festival because New Bern doesn't have a permanent venue. Heck, even Edenton has a Food Truck Festival. Not sure what these employees of these two organizations do other than collect a salary funded by membership.

I was born in New Bern in Sept 1971 during Hurricane Jinger hitting the coast. I have always wanted to move back. Left there after my dad passed.

My wife and I are looking to move in a few years and New Bern North Carolina is one of the places we are looking. We saw that New Bern flooded during one of the hurricanes. How often does New Bern flood?

If you remove DR Horton from the new home inventory, I wonder how many homes are attributed to the rest of the "new construction" builders. Being new to New Bern and currently renting, I can't believe that there are no builders that are bringing on product that appeals to singles, first time homebuyers, empty nesters, pre-retirees and retirees. Higher density products like townhomes, coach homes, zero lot line homes that are more affordable, less or no maintenance, small amenity package to keep HOA fees reasonable. Clearly not out in West New Bern or inside SR 70. The used home market in the $ 225 to $275 range nearly doesn't exist and if they come on the market, they are in marginal shape, but are still under contract quickly. Looking at other nearby markets, there are townhomes being built and smaller, more affordable homes. The question is why not in New Bern?

What is it being build "Build to Suit" Crossland Southeast near Harris Teeter James City does anyone know?

Is there handicap, (wheelchair),access in the downtown area of New Bern? I’m thinking of curb cuts at intersections, no step entrances into buildings, and ramps for places that have many steps at the entrance, such as the First Baptist Church? Thank you for any info you can provide.

Are there places in New Bern that reflects its history? ie museums, etc.
