This is top tier content. Would love to see more play analysis like this. Maybe breaking plays down by levels, i.e. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Worlds?
What do u think about klefiki to tryna stop miraidon, I'll play in rio soon and I really enjoy playing lugia
Congrats on the top and it was pleasure meeting you Friday.
@@ChazBlanks thank you, it was nice meeting you too!
Yes please more. Modern or retro ganes would be cool. I kove seeing the big brain plays properly broken down.
Thanks for the analysis, Ciaran. I play on Live a good bit, but I haven't seen a lot of high-level games like this. This is super helpful!
Bro thank you for this! I've been looking for this type of content. Keep it coming, please
Reminds a lot of Chess recaps which are some of my favorite content. So very happy to see this type of video for PTCG. Good looking out!
I love chess breakdowns as well! Whenever I come across one on my Tik Tok I always stop and watch for a few minutes
hello from Singapore! being a football (or soccer over there) fan i totally appreciate you doing what seems to be normal in sports but not tcg. please keep it coming!
love the content like this, stoked to see more like this
Really insane video. Thanks!
Amazing video, so necessary for people who wants to improve in the game
Love this style of video analysis, definitely gives a better outlook compared to live commentary/analysis
Thank you for the video! Happy to listen to these after match reports. I also love seeing commentary on matches so like if you record online matches with Lugia or tabletop matches with Lugia, I’ll for sure be watching those. I’ll actually watch anything other than block or control decks.
Glad you enjoyed! For whatever reason I don't really post online matches often, but I definitely should start doing them!
Great educational video!
Awesome format, please do a lot more of these kind of videos. They are super helpful to study and become better. Fire content 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for these breakdowns Ciaran! Refreshing way to share this knowledge and hopefully a lot more people can see things like this!
Thanks Alex! I think breakdowns like these would be awesome to add to the stream one day between rounds!
Feeling hyped that I spotted these as they did them live! Great video 😊
In the second example I think Henry should not lock his bench if he not have night stretcher in hand and that was the case. Brent in other hand should predict he have stretcher, terapagos and of course Noctowl. So I think he should Iono. Because if he have that hand, the Boss don’t do much. Like the following plays: Stretcher for dusclops, pop dusclops on squak. Bench terapagos, Noctowl the active for Turo and Prime. Use Turo on noctowl to promote Terapagos now you can evolve the other hoot hoot for candy feather and search for DTE with Pidgeot. Bench the Hoot hoot who goes to hand, use prime catcher on squak to promote Pidgeot, retreat to Terapagos and KO for two prize lead. I don’t know if those pieces are in the deck (Turo/Prime/Feather), but I think there’s other lines. Just to remind I’m not shitting in the players, they’re amazing. I’m justing saying my view to give another perspective. Peace.
Just to complete. If he pull rotom with boss probably is better since that play could not be doable, Turo or switch the rotom is not so good. I still think iono should be played, Henry not having the stretcher in hand surprises me.
If Henry has stretcher then he is pretty much forced to Dusclops and commit his Jewel Seeker to Rare Candy and Feather Ball. His turn still wouldn't be that powerful and would leave a Pidgey on the bench for Brent to still do Phantom Dive for 2 Prize Cards on. You need Area Zero as well if you want to KO Squawk, so I don't think you can KO it in your example.
@@CiaranTCG 50 dusclops +130 full bench (Terapagos, Rotom, Pidgey, Hoot, Noctowl and Pidgeot) u can kill squak. With stretcher, Noctowl and terapagos in hand you can search for five pieces: Turo, Prime, Candy, Feather and DTE. First Noctowl: Turo, Prime Second Noctowl: Feather and Candy Then Pidgeot: DTE Since you Turo u can replay hoot 🦉 so you have full bench. Yes he can KO pidgey and a hoot for 2 prizes. But that always can happen regardless you make the play I say it. Turo is because Brent pull hoot to the front with boss. So you can move and use Noctowl a second time with the same card.
Ah that makes sense. I forgot the Dusclops damage. I guess my counter would be that if Brent KOs the Pidgeot you would be in a tricky spot. But that line does make a lot of sense!
Thanks for this! Great learning material
Brent here, Game 1 I remember now that my sequencing was poor from the Temple because I was definitely cutting corners on checking what Pokemon I had left. Even after searching the deck I should have noted that Cleffa was still prized and going for Cleffa draw off the Teal Mask Ogerpon ex to bench before replacing Stadium was not possible. Not a major play at all but just wanted to share what my thought process was and how being on a clock sometimes makes for some suboptimal decisions. Looking back, I think after Henry discarded the Bouffalant, I probably still made the right call because if I go for a Regidrago set up and pass, I would be in a worse position from just Quick Search for Boss and pass, setting up for stadium search or Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex out to win in the scenario if I take out Pidgeot ex.
Thanks for adding context Brent. I agree that it's a lot harder to play on stream. I feel like every time I watch my games back I made numerous misplays lol. I think no matter what you were in a losing position here, and the attack plus pray he whiffs was probably the best line
Banger.
Im better than both of them
Hopefully I'll be breaking down one of your stream games soon then!
Good stuff
I enjoyed this style of video so much!
Excellent run! I ended up playing Lax at the tournament, was lucky not to hit too many lugias haha 😅
Lax was a super solid play for the event. Lugia was such a small metashare deck that Im not surprised you dodged them!
@@CiaranTCG yeah, I did hit 1 of them, and 1 moon, but luckily all the other matchups were pretty okay.
Live by the coin flip, die by the coin flip. There’s was a Lugia player that was running x4 pokeballs there lol
I saw his list, it was super cool. The 14 energy does scare me though
goodstuff
This is exactly the type of content that's missing from ptcg creators. It's not always easy to find time to watch / rewatch entire regional streams and most of it is relatively straight forward plays. So finding specific teaching moments like this and thoroughly breaking them down is super valuable and insightful. Bonus points for the included board sim too.
Thank you! I agree that this has been missing from the space and I've been meaning to make content like this for a long time. The reception has been super positive so I will keep making them!
Insane video! We need more videos like this
Love the style of video, great watch
Enjoy this style of video! Super helpful, would be great to see more like this
great video! I also wanted to know your thoughts on lugia with noctowls if you've seen those builds?
Thank you! I have seen those builds, but I haven't tried them. What are the Noctowls for?
@@CiaranTCG with noctowl you can grab arezu/jacq along with ultra ball and use them to get any other trainers you want. seems to try to make lugia less reliant on luck but I am not sure how consistent it actually is
also helps that noctowl doesn't get blocked by klefki or thorns ex
I feel like me setting up Noctowl requires resources that could probably just get Archeops in the discard in the first place. It does seem pretty interesting though!
What's a good deck into regidrago that isn't Lugia? Getting back into the game and kind of want to be rotation proof.
Raging Bolt is super strong in to Regidrago, but doesn't beat a lot of other decks in the meta. This is a good website that has winrates for the different decks. www.trainerhill.com/meta?game=PTCG
@CiaranTCG thanks! And congrats on the run. Is there a different meta for juniors? My 8 year old wants to start playing.
@@craigphillips2632 Juniors is like 20-25% Raging Bolt. I'd recommend Charizard for a Jr starting out
Why no Fez?
Normally you don't have bench space and you have Gift Energy to draw. The decks that play Iono/Unfair Stamp normally play Counter/Prime Catcher as well and can KO the Fez on the turn they disrupt. I also would rather just draw Lumineon instead of Fez a lot of the time. I think Fez is a great card, but it doesn't slot in super easily to Lugia
Lugias most faithful warrior back at it
The faith was rewarded!
Bolt player here, congrats on the run! The idea with going first in this matchup was mainly that I needed to take the first 2 prizes and I needed to kill cinncinno with briar to win, so I wanted to prioritize finding more cards to guarantee the ko. But you are right in me being inexperienced with the matchup. It was a pleasure playing you!
It was a pleasure playing you man, congrats on the finish! I think if you make Lugia go first you put so much pressure on me to natural turn 2 Double Chops, and get a Cinccino. It is just really hard for my deck to do. Raging Bolt's turn 1 attack rate is probably around 75-80% so I prefer to go second so I can Read The Wind and play a supporter!
Let’s gooo lugia brotha my goat 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Appreciate it man!
Great run Ciaran, really enjoyed the breakdown. In round 1 why didn't you continue using sob until they decked out?
That is a good question. I think I also was super close to decking out after playing Research. I remember I thinned my deck of all the energy before playing it. But I probably could have just not played the Research lol.
You never fail to impress me with your Lugia results! Congrats! Do you think Lugia may be a play for EUIC with the new Regigigas?
Thank you! I definitely think the new Regigigas is going to be fantastic for the deck. It will probably allow you to confidently go down to 1-1 Cinccino
@@CiaranTCG that's what I thought :) maybe you can play without Cinccino with double Hands and Vessels/Lightning Energies? I guess it depends on the meta but I think this may be a good idea :)
You can for sure try that, and maybe have Raikou!
@@CiaranTCG I will test that, thanks!
I've had such bad luck with mesagoza and good experience with jamming tower, since tower is more reactive for removing area zero in addition to its normal utility. What's a good argument for switching back to mesagoza?
Jamming Tower is only really super high impact against Gardevoir, and you have to draw it at the perfect time. Lugia plays 0 way to search or draw besides Research so I just have trouble finding it at the perfect time. Even though it sucks to have to flip with Mesagoza it helps you set up, and that is the biggest hurdle with this deck.
@@CiaranTCG What you say is true but isn't the Jamming Tower also really useful against Klawf that heavily relies on tools and which is also getting popular? I've been having the same problems with Mesagoza 😥I also don't like too much having 1/1 because I feel like "you don't have any".
@@lleseg Klawf plays 4 Underdepths, and Booster Capsule Still triggers Bonnet under Jamming. Klawf is already favourable imo
Congrats on the run goat
Appreciate it Viraj!
Rotation will have a word! Lol
Rotation is going to be a big nerf to me lol
Go Lugia! I brought it to NAIC but this time I went with Miraidon, sort of regretted my deck choice but in the future I hope to bring Lugia back!
The meta is shaping up super nicely for Lugia in this format! Definitely time to bring it back out
I was rooting for ya homie its so funny your friends predicted u bringing lugia 😂
I mean was there ever any doubt haha..... I always preach to play what you know!
Great play! Congrats on top cut
Thank you!
one play i enjoy going with lugia vs deck with no more switching out, if they bench 2 thing u can stall is sob a whole bunch leave them with 80hp boss other target sob till they have 80 left then take a 4 prize turn
That play is awesome, and a great way to avoid a tie if you are in game 3!
Congrats on the finish brother, was rooting for you
Appreciate it man! We will get our wins soon!
Pokemon judges just seem really inefficient with deck checks. When I played MTG the solo judge for some events took maybe 5 minutes to deck check and make a decision. I think too much of pokemon judging falls to having to report to the head judge to give any penalty when it feels like other games give power to their judges to make an informed decision about prize penalties and such. Seeing so much slow play on stream is still wild and needs to be looked into. Otherwise congrats on the tournament, still wont play lugia because i cant draw well with the deck to save my life
I think the reporting up the chain is what slows things down the most. For game losses I think the rule is they need to consult the head judge, but I think they could have made the call a lot faster!
Any opinion on Gallade (Buddy Catch) for late-game supporter search?
