I can’t help but feel a bit sad for Andy Cole, one of the EPLs greatest ever strikers. He always comes across to me like a real loner struggling to fit in and get along somehow. If he wasn’t a footballer he wouldn’t look out of place as a boxer. Man always carry that look of suspicion of others around him, whilst at the same time trying to assert himself as the ‘bounty hunter’ striker. It’s a tough job for awkward and quiet personalities. Andy looks a lot more relaxed these days but can’t help but feel things could’ve been so much better for England had this legendary striker got a better and fairer rub of the green with some ignorant managers and team mates during his heyday.

That probably contributed to him not being spoken of as much as the Rooneys and Owens though you do see lots of respectful comments when someone does remember him every now and again. But not like with great affection you hear for other great goals scorers, but more a blunt acknowledgement of good ‘job done’ befitting of his serious no nonsense personality.

Tell you what I liked about Dave Seaman....his ability to command his area. He'd come and catch the ball. That's a lost art today. People forget that even though Nayim scored against us, Seaman got Arsenal to the final with his saves against Sampdoria, particularly Lombardo. Seaman was class on peno's.

Respect for Mr Cole! Defo inspired future generations of us and very much remained his own man. Very frank, and don't forget how unpredictable he was upfront! His movement, combos and finishing was maverick instinct refined that delighted, and sometimes frustrated, because of how many opportunities he positioned himself well for. Utd had some very different and very wonderful forwards at that time.

Growing up as a kid watching scholesy taught me everything about the beautiful game. I ended up playing for England school boys 😏
