Overworld Revolution Showcase - More Maps Example
Overworld Revolution is patch I made that greatly expands what is possible to do with SMW's overworld. Virtually every vanilla limitation is gone, allowing for all sorts of possibilities. This video showcases one of them, specifically the ability to have more than 7 maps for your overworld. This overworld has 13 maps.

Notes:
- This is the current overworld for "Mario & Yoshi's Strange Quests", which is my SMW hack that combines my two previous SMW hacks and significantly enhances them. Those hacks being "Mario's Strange Quest" and "Yoshi's Strange Quest". - Overworld Revolution has many more capabilities than just being able to have more maps. It gives you the ability to make bigger maps, process more sprites on screen, remove the border without workarounds/side effects, fully programmable events/path movement, and much more.

- MYSQ already had its double size overworld prior to Overworld Revolution, but it was handled in a much hackier way. Internally, MYSQ previously had 2 SMW overworlds that were entirely separate from one another. Whereas with OR, all 13 of the MYSQ maps can seamlessly transition to one another just like levels can.
- I know that these maps are not that interesting by modern standards. I've already remade the MSQ overworld and plan on doing the same for the YSQ overworld.

    So a follow-up question, is there any way to make these patches compatible with the MSU1 & Widescreen hacks of the game? These would be the last piece of the puzzle as far as a definitive version would go imo.

      The MSU-1 patch shouldn't interfere with Cutscene Revolution at all, but I'm not 100% certain. The widescreen patch on the other hand, you'd need to do a lot of adjustments. Certain aspects of these cutscenes was designed with the 4:3 aspect ratio in mind. Though, at least all the code in my patch is commented.

      - Download Lunar Magic (latest version) and asar (1.81. Don't use the latest asar version). - Open your ROM in Lunar Magic. Then, modify something about level 105, then save. This will make LM install many of its ASM hacks as well as expand the ROM to 1 MB. - Click the blue mushroom button in LM, which will create an "ExGraphics" folder. - Put all the files in the cutscene revolution .zip folder into the same folder as the ROM (as well as asar). The ExGFX files should go in the ExGraphics folder. - Click the yellow mushroom button to import the ExGFX files into the ROM. - Open the 16x16 map16 editor in Lunar Magic (? Block button), then click/drag the map16 file into this window to import the map16 data. Then save the custom map16 data. - Click/drag the .mwl files into the Lunar Magic window to import the cutscene levels into the ROM. Make sure to save the levels after importing them so the change sticks. - Use asar to apply "CutsceneRevolution.asm" to your ROM. Doing so will apply the other .asm files, so you don't need to apply them separately. That's the bare minimum needed to get this patch working.

      No, even inserting all of the included levels didn't help. I don't really know what i'm meant to do but i have NMSTL installed as well as 32x32 player patch and dynamic sprites. Heck, even pixi stuff lol

    Finally such a thing exists, awesome ! One of my all times favourite games getting a much bigger life duration. I really like the somewhat night atmosphere you gave here. It's almost like my childhood memories have come back to life. I tried it and check the files around, and it looks like you have greater ambition for what comes next. For instance you want to shuffle all items whether their nature all over the island, but for that, you need sprites. I happen to have made the needed sprites ( Exterior goggle battery, gas canister, food chunk and interior dinosaur egg ), if you are interested, how should I give you ?

      I'm still working on YSQ 1. In case you don't know, I'm working on a hack called "Mario & Yoshi's Strange Quests" that combines both of my hacks into one ROM and significantly enhances both (with the MSQ portion basically getting remade). YSQ2 will happen sometime after MYSQ is done. But, I will say that some of the work being put into MYSQ will carry over to YSQ2, as I'll likely reuse my customized version of SMW's engine for it as well.

      I made a framework patch for cutscenes in SMW a couple years ago: www.dropbox.com/s/86giwgjd86dc9kj/CutsceneRevolution.zip?dl=0 You only need Asar and Lunar Magic to make use of this. You do need some ASM knowledge to make your own cutscenes. But, even some basic ASM knowledge can be enough if you don't plan on doing anything too crazy.

      Yep! I ripped these graphics myself from Terraria when I revamped this level's aesthetics. It originally only used Super Mario All-Stars graphics exclusively.

    Why on the YSQ map there are two coins to mark and only one comes out when you collect all the coins or open something else to collect

      Are you talking about the Yoshi coins? Because I'm not sure what you're referring to. If you are talking about the Yoshi coins, I do plan on implementing a secret bonus world for collecting them all between MSQ and YSQ. However, I haven't done so yet. Another thing I will mention, but in MYSQ, if you collect all 5 Yoshi coins in a level in one go, the status screen will mark that level with a platinum coin instead of a gold coin on the status screen. And if you do this for every level, then the Yoshi coin icon on this screen will also be platinum. This is 100% for bragging rights. It's meant to be a nod to the original YSQ where you actually needed to collect every Yoshi coin in one go at a level for it to count.

      @@jeysonmeza82 When I release the source code for MYSQ, I'll provide a ton of translation related notes for each message to make it easier to localize MYSQ into different languages. MYSQ's dialogue has a lot of quirks that would make it tricky to translate properly (ex. Humor, obscure/unusual word usage, text macros, the ability to specify Yoshi's gender, etc.) so I'll try to make it as easy as possible to understand the context and nuances of every line of text.

      YSQ has a music room that's unlocked by beating Space Voyage 2 in the special world. You can easily listen to all the songs there regardless of which version you play. If you're playing MYSQ, you can unlock that music room early (and all the songs) by entering "SecurityBreach" and "ChiptunesGalore" as a name respectively, then going to the cheat menu to use both of the cheats those names unlock.

    Yo this level is actually really cool and demonstrates what I think is one of the core mechanics of this hack but like Holy jesus Many things shown here are stuff I didn’t even imagine an smw could handle HD voice lines, many sprites on screen without excessive lag, custom character animations I grew up watching these kinds of videos so it’s insane to me how projects like these not only are getting much more impressive but also incredibly interesting Amazing work! Hope development on the hack is going well!

    Is there any way to have only one cutscene inserted and not the others? For example, I only want the All exit cutscene to be patched. Anyways, amazing job!

    I like how you even edited the way the bros walk as they enter the screen. That’s some extra nice attention to detail

      Thanks! Although, I don't think I modified that, but the way I implemented the movement is interesting. Mario is the actual player sprite, set to act as if left is held on the D-pad. Luigi is a cutscene sprite programmed to be at the opposite X position as Mario. You could think of it like a mirror reflection effect with how it works.
