This was a masterful analysis of Mono, thank you so much for it! It’s hard enough to contemplate and express such difficult, sometimes amorphous feelings, but to do it with poetry, and then to put it to music that is so complementary - only a rare, sensitive and intelligent person such as Namjoon could have done it. A deep dive into anything RM offers us will always be deeply rewarding, comforting and enriching.

I agree with everything u said in this video, but also think it should have been about the presence of these harmful ideals in kpop rather than focusing on Blackpink. The only reason I say this is because most if not all of the qualities that were mentioned in this video are also prevalent in most kpop boy groups and some girl groups as well. This is not just an issue of Blackpink but the kpop industry as a whole and focusing on just one group like this feels a bit like you are ignoring the rest of the problem just to make a video about Blackpink and how shallow they are. Also many of these issues pertain to how the company wants them to look and the video comes across like it is almost the girls fault for all of this. I am not saying this to hate on the video, just my opinions on it 😊

I've only been an ARMY for a few months and your video really shocked me. I realize that I was missing the point until now and that I was going in circles without ever going in depth into the lyrics of their songs. I started to cry when you talked about Whalien 52. I thought I understood the title and the meaning of the song but actually not completely and it completely speaks to me, I'm not super young (I'm 27) but I I always felt like this whale and I always called myself 'the alien'. For as long as I can remember, I have always felt outside of this world, like no one could understand me or really hear what I was saying. BTS is the very first group I stan. Before I listened to songs without even looking at the lyrics, without even trying to understand their meaning since I mainly listened to songs in English and/or French (which is my first language so voilà). Even though I looked for the translation of several BTS songs, it's not a usual exercise for me and until now it didn't bother me but now I think I'm really stupid... I mean, they are known for having great lyrics full of meaning, with hidden messages or puns, etc. and I've been listening to their songs for months without bothering to dig. I think as a baby ARMY we all need to watch these kinds of videos + the Boracity videos. I have to catch up on a lot of content and with my way of thinking it's all or nothing, so I know I'll spend many and many hours watching/reading it all. I mainly watched certain live performances like MAMA and MMA, Tiny desk, and others. I also watched all the content like Rookie king, American hustle life, Bangtan gayo, RUN BTS, Bon voyage, In the soop, some Bangtan Bombs, some BTS episodes, some interviews and variety shows (like After school club for example) , etc. To get to know them, understand their personalities. I also watched the Summer package, Winter package, Season's greetings, Festa, G.C.F, the guides to know them, some videos on their hardships, Burn the stage, Bring the soul: commentary, some explanatory videos (+theories) on the BU... I even started watching their very first logs from 2013. But I still have so much to catch up on. Anyway, thank you for your video, it will allow me to dig deeper and get out of my ignorance! By the way you I think you deserve more followers and this videos more views !

But BE was so great bc all of them participated in photography, videography, management, production, writing, etc. I'll always be so thankful they took the time to put out this album when they were going through such a hard time themselves. I agree with most of the opinions except their deals with fashion brands. I am sorry for comparing them with BTS but unlike BTS I don't think Blackpink has ever marketed themselves as someone who is against consumerism, etc. I know it is hypocritical of them to be appointed as the ambassador to speak against climate crisis but don't forget they are celebrities and you can't expect them to be completely honest infront of the audience. And I compared them to BTS because BTS wrote and sang about consumerism and careless spending in songs like GoGo , Spine Breaker, etc but what are they doing now?? Why don't you bash them for the same??? I know majority of you will say that it's their money what's your problem with that I don't have any problem I just didn't like how the maker of this video shamed the girls for being associated with the brands like celine , chanel , etc and claimed that she is genuinely offended of it. But now when BTS is associated with the same brands which she herself accepted as "cruel, inhumane industry" why I don't see any hate towards them??? I respect BTS and I know Blackpink cannot be called artist but she should criticise them for their music and performances not something in which her faves are associated as well. And those who don't believe me go and watch her other videos she has nothing but nice words to say for her faves.

you're missing important context for that comparison. i also criticize blackpink for this, not just because of my morals, but because they actively pride themselves on these things. blackpink themselves are directly telling you that its a good and admirable thing to be associated with and profiting off of these brands. on the other hand, as you mentioned yourself, bts have made songs clearly criticizing consumerism/ capitalism/ flex culture etc. they never made it part of their identity to be connected to these brands. they dont flex about the lambos they have, how expensive their diamonds are or how they must be dressed in celine "or else it wouldn't be them". making these deals, to an extent, is part of being a celebrity, correct. but there are limits, and differences in how to handle them. its one thing to buy a fancy watch for yourself, but its another to spam your instagram with it or only sing about how great it is to have it and how sh!t everyone else is who cant afford one. blackpink identify themselves with these materialistic things. bts has never done that, instead they're aware of the problems and actively speak out against the system/ flex culture. i hope you see the difference. you also need to consider, you can dislike something but still be forced to participate in it. i criticize our society, yet obviously i am a part of it and have to do things i find immoral, because these things dont change over night. you can criticize brands who do child labor, even if your phone was partially made through that immoral system. this is a logical flaw in these conversations, this is called a "suicide fallacy." you cant do 100% right, but you can try your best. and just because 20% arent perfect yet, it doesn't contradict your criticism. they can coexist, and thats exactly whats happening with bts. they try their best, they do more good than any other group i know. blackpink however fully take part, thrive in and *celebrate* this system, uncritical of the implications of their actions. this is why they are not on the same level of criticism. this is not a case of a biased fan being a hypocrite, this is nuanced criticism, it simply applies more to one than the other. hope that helped.

BE is one of my favorite BTS albums, even more so than MOTS7. It got me through the pandemic. It's strange how a Korean album did a better job of relating to my feelings at that time than any English language album ever could. Telepathy, Dis-ease and Blue & Grey are also in my Top 10 BTS songs (or at least Top 15 because they have so many great songs lol).

If Rosé’s solo “on the ground” and Jennie’s “solo” doesn’t convey vulnerability, then I don’t know what does. Rosé literally sings about the importance of being humble and grounded despite one’s success. Jennie sings about having strength to be independent. The problem with this “commentary video essays” is that as much as you try to be unbiased, you still are. You leave important facts just to prove your point. Also, they’re a manufactured kpop girl group, most of the songs they sing about shouldn’t be taken seriously anyways. I think mature and smart fans know that. Blackpink is famous and loved not just because of their hits, but because they are well rounded sweet and humble girls irl. And thats why they remain to be inspiring despite having naysayers like some youtuber with a thousand subscribers.

9:34 I swear I don't mean to be that person and I actually love Money, I think it's a fun catchy song however when I stopped to think about what she was flexing I was kinda bamboozled like girl why? your fans are the ones that made you rich in the first place why are you acting superior? and it made me think of the iconic song Mic Drop by BTS and how they only flexed their awards by saying "too many trophies I can't even count them" and they also flexed their fans by saying "in our concert we never have an empty seat" and only because they were clapping back at the haters not because they wanted to flex just for the sake of it and once they made their point look at them now almost 7 years later and they haven't made another song like that simply because there was no need to, their point was made and their achievements continue to speak volumes till this very moment, they don't have to talk because their success talks not their money so there is simply no reason for people to "listen to their (my) money talk", money which they obviously have a lot of by the way. They also appreciate their fans a lot like they gave a shout out to ARMYs in Butter by saying "got ARMY right behind us" I don't think BP ever did something like that and again I don't mean to hate I'm just making an observation since YG marketed them as the female BTS, which is another issue on its own if their image is about empowering women let alone that they are actually nothing like BTS. There are other examples of course some even by other idols but that was the only one I could think of rn. And I remember once arguing with a toxic blink about something and she essentially called me a nobody and a loser and yk jealous of BP's money and success as if my degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering that I worked hard for doesn't matter just because I don't get the deals that they get, well duh? I didn't choose to be a celeb I chose a different path, doesn't make me less successful I'm just successful in a different way and I wish that fans knew that success comes in different shapes and forms. 21:00 the left that left a bad taste in my mouth the most is "born a skinny bitch" and some fans argue that she's just appreciating her body because she was often bullied for being "too skinny" and while I love the concept (if the fans' interpretation is actually true) the way she addressed that is just a no-no. 21:50 wow, I never noticed that they were using their index fingers in a condescending manner while pointing at the female dancers essentially telling them to bow down wtf? I never noticed a lot of these things about their choreo, thank you for that.

Tally is clearly empowering. Considering how women get judged for their choices, including BP (Jennie and Lisa, specifically- for their dating rumors with various people), saying they “don’t keep tally” is referring to how they too can be like the “f*ckboys”. “And that’s not girly” isn’t them saying they’re not like other girls, it’s them saying that society doesn’t consider it girly to make your own romantic and sexual choices. In the context of Kpop, this is the literal definition of empowerment. I mean, see how casually Jisoo announced her relationship with Ahn Bo Hyun.

a common pattern i notice in these video essays is that they always start off with making somewhat good points… and then it just turns into them taking a jab at blackpink. the fact that you started using lyrics that literally had nothing to do with the topic of the video. high heels? really? 🤣 it’s so obvious that y’all are using feminism as an excuse to hate on blackpink

Sometimes blinks only wanna have fun, I SWEAR! I really wish more people would see it like that. I really enjoy their songs, they are energetic and vibes only. The girls embodied so well that concept and I like that. Y'all keep portraying them as bad people cause they suit that concept when in reality they seem to be so nice. The few moments off cam we fans get to see show us how hardworking they are, how grateful they are and how down to earth they are. And cause of that I really wish y'all could stop this not so racional criticism. Yes there are groups than dance better, yes there are groups that sing better, and yes there are groups that "write their songs", and so on and so on. Yet us fans don't get why if there are so many options yall keep giving a fuck about blackpink. I truly don't care on what other groups are up to cause I don't give a fuck. Their concept is fun to me and I don't see why they need to solve all the world problems. Really. I think people should focus on their favs and idk... focus. I went to see them live and enjoyed myself so much... this is what blackpink means to me. Having fun. And maybe cause I'm a fan I also feel proud of their hardworking career, idk is so tiring. I just wanted to see some videos about the girls and ended up founding just videos like yours and I think I just started ranting here. I just wish y'all stop being so harsh. The way y'all dehumanize them breaks me a little every time... God I wish people would just mind their business. Fuck I wish only the good for them :/
