A climb up to Glyder Fach via a steep & hard (in winter conditions) scree route to the side of Bristly Ridge. Once at the top, I had a quick chat with one of the Ogwen mountain rescue teams deployed by helicopter as I was making my way up, searching for 2 people in distress. (They were found & returned to safety) I then hooked a left over some boulder field & decended around 500 feet to a perfe...

      @@Mark.Woodyatt if you head from there you gradually ascend and it is quite reasonable (especially with a large sac ) with the only steepish bit is the back of Gallt yr Ogof. It saves the slog up to Llyn Bochlwyd, another way is past Tryfan Bach and below the Heather Terrace of Tryfan will lead you to the same spot pretty much as the route past Bochlwyd but is more gradual and you get great views of Tryfan East Face

    8:42 Every time I go to Bryher there is always some form of storm or weather event. I've noticed that the locals always say, "This is unusual, it's never normally like this". They're lying. It is always some weather about to happen. I don't think there is a bylaw that says they should pretend that they don't get exceptional weather, but I hear this comment every time I go. It doesn't matter how bad the weather is though, the good days always make up for it. There is nothing, but nothing, that prepares you for the colour of the sea and the sky in Scilly. And like @tawnywitch below, I get tearful when I leave (and when I return, I always think, "I'm home").

    • @Mark.Woodyatt
      @Mark.Woodyatt ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mark, I watched this with great interest as I live in Capel Curig and know these hills well. If only you'd gone right around Craig Wen rather than left it would have been a much less interesting story! Beyond Craig Wen there is a much nicer route back to Capel. I too have bushwhacked around your walk out and it is horrific so you have my sympathy. I'm glad you found the day educational. Btw, there are no Munros in Wales and even if there were, these particular hills, being less than 3000ft, wouldn't qualify as such.

    When u did the loch lomond bit, do u take the high route or the low route?

    • @Mark.Woodyatt
      @Mark.Woodyatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We took the high route Matthew, I had an 18kg pack & there was enough going on that path. I didn't want to risk an injury on the lower path. Had I been walking with a day pack I'd have taken the lower path.

    • @matthewboothman129
      @matthewboothman129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mark.Woodyatt OK so the high route are u near like any steep edges of sheer drops? I'm doing it in September and dunno what route to go and I hate being next to sheer drops

    • @Mark.Woodyatt
      @Mark.Woodyatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were no areas of exposure along Loch Lomond. I did the walk over 8 days & the 3rd day was by far the one that took its toll. It took another 2 days to recover fully. After that though I was fine.

    • @matthewboothman129
      @matthewboothman129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mark.Woodyatt OK I might do high route then if there isn't any sheer drops on my side, I've heard it's the hardest day everyone says that, but after that day it then gets really wild and just beautiful

    • @Mark.Woodyatt
      @Mark.Woodyatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The higher route has less scramble & climbing up & down (still has some) harder going & more injury prone with a heavier pack. There is no steep drop exposure along there. In fact I don't remember any notable areas of reasonable exposure to steep drops on the route tbh.
