Our West Highland Way...

My walking\hiking began around 18 months ago & was in no small way inspired by @abbiebarnes. The WHW became a goal I set myself after some life changing events left me without purpose. It started with simple walks, which turned to hikes & mountain hikes & scrambles & then this. I'd planned to do the journey alone but my nephew Sully wanted to join me, & so I found myself sharing a memorable life event with a wonderful companion. ‪@Mark.Woodyatt‬

My dates were at the same time as yours, the midges were very few at that time. Almost none at all. Have a great adventure 🙂

When u did the loch lomond bit, do u take the high route or the low route?

We took the high route Matthew, I had an 18kg pack & there was enough going on that path. I didn't want to risk an injury on the lower path. Had I been walking with a day pack I'd have taken the lower path.

@@Mark.Woodyatt OK so the high route are u near like any steep edges of sheer drops? I'm doing it in September and dunno what route to go and I hate being next to sheer drops

There were no areas of exposure along Loch Lomond. I did the walk over 8 days & the 3rd day was by far the one that took its toll. It took another 2 days to recover fully. After that though I was fine.

@@Mark.Woodyatt OK I might do high route then if there isn't any sheer drops on my side, I've heard it's the hardest day everyone says that, but after that day it then gets really wild and just beautiful

The higher route has less scramble & climbing up & down (still has some) harder going & more injury prone with a heavier pack. There is no steep drop exposure along there. In fact I don't remember any notable areas of reasonable exposure to steep drops on the route tbh.
