The second mood piece I did as part of a personal project that I originally recorded to show off a few different ways of using a mix of photos and painting to take a big naturalistic scene from sketch to a finished piece. This was the same place as part one, but taking a look from a different angle and was part of a series of paintings I did to try and help me push the level of refinement further in my work. Hi sir i hope you answer my question. What is the deference between photoshoop and photobashing and why photobashing is always in my pov more realistic then photoshop

    • @edwardbarons522
      @edwardbarons522 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Photoshop is the software and photobashing is the name for technique where you use photos as a texture or as a base for a painting. So you can do photobashing with photoshop like I've done here. Hope that helps!!

      It gets called photobashing, which is a pretty broad term that covers using photos as anything from textures to using whole pieces of lots of to create a finished piece.

    Great character design, love the them and colors, kinda like Assassin´s creed Syndicate. How do you render the clothes?? no Photobashing but only painting, I want to paint like you, but clothes is a great mistery to me. Great character design

    • @edwardbarons522
      @edwardbarons522 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always try and remember than clothes are a 3D form (which I know sound obvious), which means they wrap around the body so you need to remember that when you shading, and that all the folds are essentially like little tubes that will have their own light and shade within the main form. One of the best exercises I found was to do contour drawings, the ones where you draw lines that follow the form, from a reference photo to help me understand what is happening. The other thing is have some reference while you paint! Probably most important is find some good reference! I had references on my other screen of jackets and trousers while painting this so I could see where folds fall it can be a life saver when you get stuck.

    as someone who wants to get into the industry... its been incredibly disappointing to find out about photobashing. one because i'll never be good enough, two its basically lying about skill, sur eyou can be good at photoshop, but you didn't actually draw the textures or features, you just put a photo over it... and three, i don't want to do this... so i probably wont get into the industry...

    • @TXNIZ
      @TXNIZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You watched him draw/paint 90% of this character but can't stomach the 10% of photo texturing that adds realism that he also painted over ? You're right about this line of work not being for you lol. Good luck.

    • @angeliquedemont2841
      @angeliquedemont2841 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry, photobashing is absolutely not lying about skill. It's the difference between using your fingers to paint vs using a paintbrush. It's a tool for artists to use just like any other. Your opinion is highly misguided. Please try it for yourself. Photobashing actually takes incredible skill to be good at.

    • @edwardbarons522
      @edwardbarons522 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can understand why you feel like that, digital art always has lines where people think a technique is cheating, in fact I've had people tell me digital art is cheating full stop. But I think it's important to remember than I'm coming at this from a concept art for games background where time in short and expectations are high particularly in AAA games, so like the others said photobashing is a tool to speed up the process. Concept art is not the final product but a step on the path and the technique used to create it is less important than whether or not it helps others further down the pipeline. But don't let it put you off, if you really want to get into the industry, you can be good enough all it takes is time and practice. As far as lying about your skill, personally I'd rather have the information out there so people can see the process as when I was learning photobashing was used but wasn't talked about, so one of the reason I put this out was so nothing was hidden. So the best advice I can give you is don't let it put you off and try and find your own path. I know some great artists out there who don't use photobashing but use 3D, other than use both, and other still that use neither. Personally I still enjoy everything from oil painting to photobashing, so I just see them all as a toolbox to choose from depending on what I want/need to achieve.

    • @edwardbarons522

      Its a personal choice really. I've painted over a lot of the base I laid down as its a personal piece but if I was asked to do something that looked more photoreal I'd have leaned more into the technique. Truth is that most of the time that if you can produce work in the correct style and to the right level, 9 times out of 10 a studio won't really mind how you get there. Best thing is to do whatever works for you :)
