Bonjour professeur. Bonne explication.
Hi, Actually I'm working on a project of hydroponics with the NFT (Nutrient Film Technique),I want to know how to make a model of it with low budget.

Is your system and homemade system? What do you use for the pump and stone? The lights look like a standard grow light right?
Yes, I made my system using 10-gallon totes with lids. The air pump is for a 10-20 gallon fish aquarium. I use a longer 6-inch flat air stone to distribute air bubbles more evenly. The lights are Barrina Grow lights. Check out my video about grow lights for more details. th-cam.com/video/3zrreg7BXmQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T0_rEbq64g3BBOfT

@@aHolyGhost If you let loofah gourds dry out on the vine you should be able to cut off the end and just shake them out. 👩🌾
What is the best water to use for plants in hydroponics system? Can I just use tap water or should i use bottled drinking water?
GREAT question! You want a pH level between 5.5-6.0. My well water is extremely high alkaline level & I have to add pH base to it. This would take a pH control kit like the ones from General Hydroponics. HOWEVER, you can simply use rainwater. I put out buckets and tubs to catch the rain. Rainwater is neutral pH with low TDS (total dissolved solids). My well water is over 200 TDS and my rain water was 32 TDS.
Wow that's a very old machine
😗 IT IS OLD & had NEVER been used before! Works great EVERY time I use it! 👩🍳 The only challenge is the baker! 🤣

@@KevinHillier-ru5pp WOW! 😮 Thank you for paying attention to detail! Have you ever grown Tromboncino Squash?
@@GrowingwithGlenna no but I've battled squash bugs on regular summer squash. Vine borers are actually eggs layed by moths that hatch and drill into squash
@@KevinHillier-ru5pp 👍 I have never been able to grow summer squash mature enough for bugs. The tromboncino is so versatile that I just grow it. 🥒 We only use natural pest deterrents, so it’s an interesting battle with tomato 🍅 bugs.

@@GrowingwithGlenna What's "master blend"? some kind of NPK? i'm from Brazil and we dont have that brand here is that a 10-10-10?
@@alexsandermc9794 Great question! Yes, Masterblend is an NPK with micronutrients. Its levels are 4-18-38 which is a vegetable/tomato fertilizer. 👩🌾💦

I love that the plants are ‘drinking’ fancy tomato cocktails!! You are so fun and so informative. What do you use to place the seedlings into the hydroponic hole? You said something about a mesh plant holder?? I’m sure there’s another video that explains….. thanks Glenna!! ❤😊🌿🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
@@alisonstrand6265 GREAT questions! Keep them coming & you might just become a hydroponic AND soil farmer! 🥳 The seedlings are placed into a net cup and supported by LECA clay pebbles. The net cup holds the plant and allows the roots to grow out from the net cup (air roots) and down into the nutrient solution. 💦👩🌾
How do you keep rain from filling the tank and diluting the nutrients? Awesome plants! 😊
@@mikki_s1100 THANKS FOR WATCHING! 😊 You cannot keep rain from coming into the tubs completely, but you can put foil over the top of the net 🧺 and that diverts most of the rain. ☔️ Outdoor Kratky tanks are not “fix it and forget it” hydroponics. You need an EC meter and the willingness to check the levels of the tanks and adjust the nutrient solution to promote optimal growth. 👩🌾

DO you use sponges for seedlings, as well. Can they be reused and if how to cleam them. Do they withstand cooking? I do not htink so. or else a simple soaking in vinegarsolution will do the task?
@@potschochterpotschochter2403 You can use loofah sponges for seedlings, but they do better for propagating. This is a great idea! Being that hurricane Beryl toppled my giant oak, I’ve been wondering how to address the big hole in the ground. Yes I could just fill it. But your idea is inspiring. Glad yall made it thru the tornado. So sorry that your garden took such a hit. 😢
🌪The tornado took out the tree 🌳 , but left a perfect place for the marigolds! Because I lined the hole with old wood (had lots due to the tornado knocking down so many trees), the marigold bush has continued to thrive! It is full of blossoms and is about as tall as I am. 🙄 (You may roll your eyes here since I'm 5'1.5") The marigold seeds were a Christmas gift from my sweet hubby and are called CRACKER JACK marigolds. It is deeply satisfying to grow flowers from seed and watch them bloom for over 6 months! 🤠
I may need to try these for sure!! That’s an amazing producer! Glenna - you are so cute in your countdown!! lol ❤😊
@@alisonstrand6265 You DEFINITELY 👍 need to plant SUNGOLD tomatoes 🍅!!! I have 4 pounds of them in the freezer waiting to become salsa this winter! SUNGOLD is an early producer AND a fall producer. If you can keep the plants watered & alive in the summer months, they will begin to produce again in the fall when the night temperatures are cooler. I was harvesting SUNGOLD tomatoes in early December last year! 😳 ❄️ 🥶
Glenna, you are a ray of sunshine and your videos are excellent! Very informative and helpful. Thank you!! Great idea re the rotting logs to help fill. My thot was it was going to be pricey to fill that big boy container but you took that into consideration. I appreciate that!
@@alisonstrand6265 😎 I LOVE gardening 👩🌾 ❤️ and try to show that in all my videos! I use the modified hugelkultur whenever possible because it WORKS! Try simply placing pieces of wood around the plants in your garden. Your 🪴 plants will benefit greatly from the retained moisture and the nutrients provided during the breakdown of the wood.🪵
Nice video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I attempted the same approach here in Bay Area, CA with same size container , but wasn't successful. My problems were as below and hope you can provide a solution based on your experience. 1. The liquid nutrient level went down 1/4 in just 2-2.5 months . I replenished it , but not fully ( like 1/2 way ) to avoid drawning the air roots, but didn't have a convenient and full proof way to ensure the ph / nutrient concentration to the recommended level. The left over liquid must have had very different concentration then what was in the beginning and mixing new liquid ( having 2:1:2 ratio of three components of master blend ) might have resulted in a mix with different concentration. Since I didn't get much fruit even though foliage growth was good, I suspected this as one of the problem. How did you manage liquid level in the container through out the season ? 2. The liquid temperature will go up to 105-115 F during heat wave weeks in Bay Area ( when day high is 105 F and afternoon sun very harsh ) . I suspected this as another problem inhibiting the fruiting. What was your approach to address this challenge ?
GREAT QUESTIONS! I have encountered all of the challenges you have, but in central Texas heat. You will need to be able to measure the pH and the EC level of all of the tanks’ nutrient solutions. General Hydroponics has a good kit for measuring pH and you can get a fairly inexpensive EC meter stick from Amazon. I have a few suggestions on my website: hydro4food.com/hydroponics-4-food-resource-page/ Next suggestion is to get a shade cloth. I have a video out that shows how to repurpose old frames to make an inexpensive shade cloth cover. If I did not have one over my plants, they simply wouldn’t survive the TX heat in the summer-especially my tomato plants! While a lot of my tomato plants are still blooming, above 80 degrees F at night discourages any new blossoms. However, if you keep the plants alive till September, you’ll have a second season and harvest. For a decrease in the level of nutrient, I check the level and the EC level every other day. If it’s at 50% with a good EC level, then I leave what is in there and add a couple of gallons of nutrient solution. However, keep a watch on them. I start my tomato seeds at the end of January and put them out in the Kratky tanks after the last frost to get as many tomatoes as I can before the heat elevates above 80 at night. One of my Kratky tanks last year had an EC of 4.0 and a PPM of 2800. WAYYYYYYYY too high! It was a clear indication that high temperature had caused the plant to absorb most of the water. At this point I would advise emptying all of the nutrient and starting with a fresh batch. I tried adjusting a couple of tanks that were “hot” with additional nutrient, but they did not do as well as the ones that had new nutrient. Last bit of advice? Propagate some of your tomato suckers so you will have plants to replace the ones you might lose and you will be able to harvest until the first frost. This video shows you how. th-cam.com/video/iK1bmOcBKkg/w-d-xo.html What was your “aha” moment when reading my response? Why? Would love to hear back how it works for you! Thanks for watching and commenting! 😃
Thanks for the great video.
😊You are most welcome! Good luck propagating your 🍅!
great idea
That's what I thought the first time I propagated tomato plants! 👩🌾
Cant say no to free tomatoes! 🍅
NO KIDDING! One tomato plant can produce 20-25 more tomato plants!🍅
Cardboard over weed fabric because it invites earthworms, never has to be removed, and does the same job as the fabric for less money (free if you look around).
Thank you for commenting AND for watching to the portion where we lay the weed fabric!😉The choice between cardboard and weed fabric under a raised bed garden depends on your specific needs and priorities. Cardboard is excellent for short-term weed suppression and soil improvement, while weed fabric offers a more durable, long-term solution. Combining both can provide comprehensive benefits, ensuring both immediate and lasting positive effects on your garden. What are you growing in your garden? Do you rotate its location?
Yummy 😊
