    I grew up riding 1970’s Triumphs, which were kickstart only. I keep hearing people blah, blah, blah about how they lacked in everything, but watching this video tells me that I’m not now, nor was I ever missing anything. What an ugly bike this is from the rider’s perspective! Who doesn’t know that when you’re doing this, you DO NOT change into First gear, but into second, or third, so that you don’t get the damn thing lurching all over the place? Trouble with modern day drivers and riders is that they don’t know anything except what’s in the magazines and the sales brochures! “Lookshery, lookshery! When Ah were yoong, we had ter…."

    you absolutely can change gears without clutch, up and down. the only thing I have no idea how to do is if there are traffic lights. you can easily get up to highway speeds and back down without the clutch but the moment you need to stop the only option is to stall the bike, I don't know if I would do it from the kill switch or try to stop the rear wheel from spinning with the brake

  • @vito1064
    @vito1064 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've had many clutch cable failures in almost 30 years of riding, on bikes and cars as well. I start the engine in first gear (helping the starter motor with my legs if I'm on a bike) and then I change gear without using the clutch as I usually do lifting the throttle for upshifts and blipping it to downshift. When I have to stop I downshift to first gear and swith off the engine. It can be difficult if your bike needs you to pull the brake to start but you have to pull it very lightly just to trigger the microswitch. The only bikes that are very difficult to ride clutchless are the kickstarter only big singles with no central stand.

      Some bikes 2nd is far eaiser than 1st, like many cars 2nd gear is the best to bump in, but on Ninja's and many other race/circuit style bikes, the gear ratio is such that it's designed to do 40mph in 1st gear without blowing the engine up, so you have to bump them in 1st, it's really weird riding your first sports bike and still being in 1st gear at 30mph, and 3rd gear doing 70mph knowing you've still got another few upshifts to go...

As a person living in a not small nor big town and having everything done quick if needed to do something cant imagine myself spending a lot of time in traffic just to go to a regular shop for example,never a fan of big towns,especially the capital. Time is pressuse at the end of the day. And thats where the advantage of motorcycles come in,myself being one as well.

    Not all car drivers are dicks, some actually try to help out a little where possible, quite possibly bikers themselves but happen to be driving their car. There are many car drivers now that ride motorcycles. Motorcycle riders make much better car drivers. The one law that should be passed is a ban on U turns in traffic for cars and vans, they often swing around when they see traffic come to a stand still, but on main roads they often don't bother looking properly and just go, ban cars and vans from doing these U turns on main roads, except where right of way has been given, ie if traffic stops for them after they have been indicating.

    a story from 2012, Got 3 points and a £60 fine earlier today for overtaking/filtering in a zigzag lined area up to the pedestrian crossing. In simple terms filtering is an overtaking manoeuvre so take that in to account and rules for zigzag lines. some say this is a northern website so could be Ireland White zigzags are commonly found either side of pedestrian crossings. They are designed to indicate that parking and overtaking in these zones is strictly prohibited. The same rule applies to yellow zigzag lines, which are found outside of schools, hospitals, police and fire stations. so some say no overtaking at all some say not the leading car or other motor at front. but heads up bikers have been given 3 points and fine for filtering / overtaking on zigzags and the one i mentioned was not the only one so i say look out for cops as you may get jobs worth looking to give tickets out. must admit tho you ride in to the city prob best ive seen any biker ride, many ride pants on fire but few moments i felt pass was not worth it just to much tight squeeze and cannot blame car drivers when the councils have daft idea putting cycle lanes all over making lanes more narrow, and 20 zones they eve have cameras for the 20 zones fines have gone up 700% because limit dose not suit road so easy to go over and now i think London is now the slowest city in the world to cross that crazy. 30 limit in busy areas were fine cause you do not drive a the limit you drive to conditions so if conditions don't allow you not going to be anywhere near the limit because that careless driving / riding, and 20 mph on duel wow it feel like to could jump out or off and run along side it be so slow

    • @pinnacle_moto
      @pinnacle_moto หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some good points for consideration there Steve, thanks for the comment. With regards to the highway code and zigzag lines (those at pedestrian crossings) there is a "should not" filter coming up to a crossing, which is done recklessly or too fast could get you a ticket. Also if you have an accident while participating in a "should not" rule although it's not illegal, you stand a good chance of loosing any claim. The "Must not" for the white zigzag is you can not overtake the first vehicle that is either moving or stopped. This will get you a ticket under Rule 191 of the highway code. The problem here is that if the vehicle is moving then you need to be very careful as to which one is considered "first" so best to avoid filtering all together in this instance if the traffic is moving at a zigzag.

  • @DarrenCureton

    Very good job overall. Nice bit of restraint where necessary. Mostly a good safety bubble (a bit compromised in a couple of spots) and you're considering the legality. I'd use the advisory cycle lane there, but very carefully and slowly. As you correctly identified, you're not breaking any law by using it, but be aware that in the case of an accident, it's something you shouldn't have done. My opinion is that you are safer making slow progress on the left than with cars both sides of you. You're aware of the dangers (doors opening, people crossing) and making the necessary adjustments (not bombing down there at the speed limit! Going on Amber and Red, on the other hand... is a MUST NOT. I like to give myself a SLAP when I'm considering any manoeuvre: S - is it Safe? L - is it Legal? (Notice the prioritisation of Safe before Legal) A - does it gain an Advantage (is one car length worth it?) P - how will it be Perceived by other road users? Are they going to thing "nice biker" and have a good attitude towards other bikers? Or the opposite? For example, I wouldn't have moved back to Lane 1 on the A12 on approach to Newbury Park station because: S - cars are always waiting to pull out of that junction so it's not Safe L - it's not a Legal requirement to pull back to lane 1 so staying in 2 is perfectly fine A - no Advantage either way so not applicable P - you're not holding up anyone, doing the speed limit, so no Perception issue Good bit of riding, nice video. My Z1000SX will very soon (maybe as soon as tomorrow) be in for valve clearance check service and also investigate why the engine management light has come on (manual says issue in the DFI system, I'm betting the O2 sensor has taken exception to some of the puddles I rode through last Sunday) Got new tyres on it too. Do you have progression licenses in the states?. I did another video on the complexity of how it is in the UK and limitations on the CC and power of the engine. In UK Mopeds with L plates is like entry level and most of them I've experience had absolutely no clue about the highway code.

      @@pinnacle_moto we don't, we take what is called the MSF course. Basically you go for 3 days, part is class room, the rest is on the range. Once you pass that you go get your license and that beautiful R1 and then die lol. It really is that easy. You guys are way more advanced. We do have more advanced training but it is up to the rider to do it.

    Blimey I’d probably be hung on the internet for my daily commute into London. I’ve been doing it by bike for 30 years and my main aim is to stay safe, wrong side of the road, bicycle boxes etc is all fair game as far as I’m concerned and the fact that I’m still alive sort of proves that it’s ok. I went on one of the police’s bike safe courses a few years ago and we introduced ourselves and our journeys and the police motorcyclist said “ just keep alive” as long as we were not reckless and caused trouble to other traffic they generally turned a blind eye.

      Yeah this video was a pure by the book video because of the constructive criticism on my previous video :) It was nice to feel like I was doing everything legally and safely (for once). The internet can be harsh, But to be honest I only got one really negative comment on the first vid on this subject, but I think TH-cam deleted it due to the profanities :)

    I used to commute along this A12 East London route... nasty, hectic and stressful and going right through the worst driving / riding areas of London. Surprised if any of the drivers have valid driving licences. Did a BikeSafe day with Essex Police who commented that this is considered as a high risk route.

    I will never understand how people have the patience to take one of those rolling metal cages into London. Traffic is already a nightmare on a bike, a car would be even worse. At least with the tube you can go on your phone.

    I haven't ridden in the UK for years as I live in Baku, Azerbaijan and it's kind of amusing seeing how road in the UK obey the rules for the most part. Here it's like playing a motorised version of Tetris whilst everyone is on their phones.

    • @pinnacle_moto
      @pinnacle_moto หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the most congested part of my journey. And if I'm honest, it was really frustrating going through the middle there. I know this will upset some people on here but I think I will use it at a slower speed. I mean it's an ACL which means we should avoid using it, not an MCL which means we MUST not use it.

    • @nyan525
      @nyan525 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly, I remember asking a question about that exact section on r/motouk and got decently educated on what the lines mean for cycle lanes. Also, especially in the London area I always think the police would have to be malicious to stop me, on my big BMW who rides fairly sedately, and not the thousands of deliveroo and just eat mopeds who ride like it's death race 2000 😂

      Great videos but the advisory cycle lane is almost a red herring. If the traffic is moving it’s undertaking and an easy offence(yes I know mopeds do it all the time). If stationary you can filter BUT you’ll be held 50/50 liable in an accident. See Fagan V Jeffers (2005).

    Love that you do a low speed commute on that 1000sx. My commute is only 5 miles with max speed limit of 40, but you’re making me want to upgrade from my Honda CB500x! 😂. Had been telling myself that a 1000sx would be ridiculously inappropriate for my commute, but seems to be perfectly fine for you. Also, really enjoying the content. Like Royal Jordanian but with added useful commentary, what’s not to like!

      Thank you mate. The z1000sx is very easy to ride at low speeds. Only disadvantages it would have is the agility and the fuel consumption. But I’ve done the commute on the wife’s ninja 650 and there’s not much in it.

    Just a couple of comments. You ARE ALLOWED to pass stationary traffic in the cycle lane EVEN IF it is a solid line. But by the strict wording of regs, it has to be stationary. People don't know the law on this, let alone coppers, so you need to know where is allowed in the regs so you can quote it! Other thing is that I never position myself to the left of the first car in a traffic queue because half of them are asleep and the other half on their phones, so they are too lazy to turn their heads left to notice you. If I end up in that position I will hang back from the first car so that the second car in the queue has a clear view of me without having to move their heads, and I will turn to make eye contact with them. Easy enough to zoom past the first car once you have roll-on speed to it. Risk is that you fluff the gear change, or they nail the accel without seeing you, and side-swipe you. This is particularly important at roundabout junctions, because the car driver at the front of the queue is ONLY looking right and will never see you on the left. At roundabouts I will only filter to the right of traffic, then they can't miss you because you are blocking their view!! ;) Stay safe!

      This is very valuable information. I've been searching through the highway code to try and identify what is legal and just frowned upon and what is actually illegal. I did find a section that says you can not enter a solid white line cycle lane however as you say you can use it to filter around a blocked carriage way. Blocked meaning stationary. although as you also say I don't think anyone realises this and there is some very grey area to what definitions of blocked are.

      @@pinnacle_moto PS ... what a judge might say is another matter, judges in courts make up their own rules and see no reason not to invent their own laws. Be wary. But, yes, that link will show you what the letter of the law says about it.
